Jerry Lewis is back

Classic performances in movies like 1963's "The Nutty Professor" helped make a legend out of Jerry Lewis. He's 90 now, looking back - and looking forward, with a new film, as a retired jazz artist in "Mad Rose." Tracy Smith reports.

(Remember them--in the '50's?) I loved the dance he did with the woman beatnik in the club. He also was bawling when she was singing her silly, nonsense, "beatnik" song--"cuckoo!!...." And was telling his date, the lovely actress Joan Blackman (who also acted with Elvis)--he told her "This is very sad...." Then he started crying in his classic, crazy "Jerry Lewis" way---was so funnny--and so classic Jerry!!!

GL History Well, that may or may not be so, but to the general public at the time they were still estranged (or at least not as close as they had been in the past), and Jerry realised that his appearance at Dean Paul’s funeral could easily have become a media frenzy if he had been spotted, and encroached on Dean’s and the families grief. That is why he did it in such a low-key way. I think that is what Dean appreciated, not only that Jerry had come to the funeral but that he didn’t push himself forward to give the photographers a field day, ( you can just imagine the headlines; ‘Dean and Jerry re-united in grief’) but respected their privacy on such a traumatic occasion.

But he was also stubborn as a mule and had a habit (like most of us do) of holding a grudge until it was too late, and he could never make back the ground then. He made that mistake with Dean and he later made that mistake with his own kids. Life’s too short to end it full of regrets, make peace with your fellow if you can and if they will let you. Jerry was to comedy, what Elvis was to music...Jerry and Dean were to comedic movies, what Andy Griffith and Don Knotts were to "The Andy Griffith Show"...I love seeing interviews of legendary stars from bygone eras, because of their wisdom, because of the nostalgia and because of their stories.

OMG! I'm so happy I found this video. I think of Jerry often especially at this time of year. I had no idea how he was doing and maybe thought the worse from not hearing anything for so long. It's great to know he is working and doing so well. God Bless Jerry and I hope you keep working for many years to come. CHEERS

Jerry looks great! He had a very rough time before he could get off the prednisone. I always love his movies and comedy routines. Keep going, Jerry, until you reach at least 105! :-)

I watch this, tears are falling down my face. I had a difficult childhood and when I would see Jerry Lewis on TV he made me laugh and forget about my hurt. I met him once in Tucson with his wife and little girl who was at the time the same age as my little boy. He was gracious and kind. I love you Jerry Lewis and God loves you so much!

No Jerry, you're "not a god", but you are a saint. Growing up, you were my solace in the crazy world I grew up in L.A. I caught every movie I could go see and sometimes see it up to 3X's that same day. God bless you and comfort you all the days of your life.

One of the only comedians from that day who get me really laughing.....love his comedy. His telethons were a labor day staple for our family. We would camp out in front of the tv and watch the totals.
