Jerry Lewis is back
Classic performances in movies like 1963's "The Nutty Professor" helped make a legend out of Jerry Lewis. He's 90 now, looking back - and looking forward, with a new film, as a retired jazz artist in "Mad Rose." Tracy Smith reports.

A Vile & Venomous Guy!
I was born as a result of my father going over to my mother and acting like Jerry Lewis.. That's how my father overcame his shyness with approaching my mother so that they could meet and be happily married. Then I came along.
Old Classic Hollywood cries within my heart .... 💜 He said at the end that he wants to live alittle more sadly, he passed one yr. after this interview at 91 yrs. Young ..Whenever I see the sunshine I think of Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin and smile ..😁

I remember the time, at which he painted himself, with a paintbrush, resulting in his character, then being dressed, in that painted tuxedo. He then immediately transforms, into a new, cool guy, as the movie continues. It was magic.

Jerry Lewis was the successor to Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton. A comedian of rare talent and vision. My Wife and I were lucky enough to have seen him perform live at Proctors Theater in Schenectady NY in 1992. He sang, danced and told the story of his life in show business inheriting talent from his Dad Danny Lewis. What a Legend.

I saw that when I was much younger also--and I think that's when I became a permanent fan. It was SO funny when he (in the movie) went to "The Hungry Brain" where the beatniks were. (Remember them--in the '50's?) I loved the dance he did with the woman beatnik in the club. He also was bawling when she was singing her silly, nonsense, "beatnik" song--"cuckoo!!...." And was telling his date, the lovely actress Joan Blackman (who also acted with Elvis)--he told her "This is very sad...." Then he started crying in his classic, crazy "Jerry Lewis" way---was so funnny--and so classic Jerry!!!
'I'm getting over not walking.' LOL Jerry Lewis was a comedic genius, period.

GL History Well, that may or may not be so, but to the general public at the time they were still estranged (or at least not as close as they had been in the past), and Jerry realised that his appearance at Dean Paul’s funeral could easily have become a media frenzy if he had been spotted, and encroached on Dean’s and the families grief. That is why he did it in such a low-key way. I think that is what Dean appreciated, not only that Jerry had come to the funeral but that he didn’t push himself forward to give the photographers a field day, ( you can just imagine the headlines; ‘Dean and Jerry re-united in grief’) but respected their privacy on such a traumatic occasion.
Bless him and may he continue to move forward for as long as his body will let him.

Jerry was a great comedian, he made me laugh like he made almost everybody laugh. I wish he wasn’t dead. But he was also stubborn as a mule and had a habit (like most of us do) of holding a grudge until it was too late, and he could never make back the ground then. He made that mistake with Dean and he later made that mistake with his own kids. Life’s too short to end it full of regrets, make peace with your fellow if you can and if they will let you. At least try.
