IN 1979,in corpus christi,i had the rare chance to stay up all nite in a bar with jerry jeff and uncle walt's band.i asked him to play this song and coached him through the lyrics.i had listened to the song so much and he was so jack danieled,i remembered better than he did.great guy.the bartender ran us all out on sunday morning because he had to be back in a couple hours to open the bar.thanks.

Thanks! The last verses of this song have been playing in my head. Now I finally found it. And it was Lee Claytons version I had in a C-cassette and I used to listen it in my car. A few decades ago..... 😂

I heard a band called the turnpike troubadours do a cover of it. they just said it was Jerry Jeff, but never named the song. I need this on vinyl

Phew. I just noticed this disc (Its A Good Night For Singin') missing from my Raven 2-CD set where its coupled with Contrary to Ordinary. And my other favourite from the former album (Couldn't Do Nothin' Right) also here so thanks Charlie. Still feel incomplete though as Jerry Jeff feels like an old pal. Amiable but deeply felt with no histrionics and the music flows like molasses. Not surprised that he rates only a mention (Marty Robbins even that?) on the worthy but the Burns narrow and humourless series on Country Music.

Does anyone have the harmonica tabs by chance? Thanks in advance!!
