I have never heard JG talk smack or put down another musician, i know he didn't think rap was music but its amazing to me how disciplined he was with his tongue obviously there must have heard music that he didn't think was worth repeating. I think he was blessed because of decency.

Yeah, Jerry did have a lot of respect for other people, regardless of whether or not he liked it. Like some people play instruments and some other people are performers. And people are going to like who they like regardless of whether or not he likes it or enjoys it. Just like him saying that rap is not music. He wasn't putting it down he was describing what it really is. I never really cared about most rap but there was some stuff that I thought was kinda good that actually had some musicians involved too.

The way people talk about Hendrix & how he couldn't do it on command, it had to be the right time & place well that's exactly how the dead did it only they tried & fell on their faces alot more, 30yrs vs 4

I remember seeing a clip of I think it was "The Dick Cavitt Show" & he had Jimi Hendrix on his show. And made the statement to Hendrix "From what I hear you're like the best lead guitarist in America." And Jimi Hendrix being his normal humble self said "I'm not so sure about that there is also Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones & this other cat in San Francisco named Jerry Garcia." Then on another clip of "The Dick Cavitt Show" Janis Joplin was on. And I forget what exactly was said but Dick Cavitt said something about that he was "hip"! To which Janis replied "Yeah, I can tell by your shoes man!!" Although Dick Cavitt was great about having very talented musicians on his show his shoes were NOT hip!!! And him mentioning it was one of Jimi's greatest performances & he also mentioned Otis Redding. One of my favorite LP's (late 70's, early 80's) was Hendrix on one side & Otis Redding on the other side. Both of their performances at the Monterey Pop Festival. That was my favorite live Hendrix album. The Isle of Wight being another cuz it had "First Rays of the New Rising Sun" I use to love some Voodoo Child(Slight Return) too. AND ANOTHER little known fact is that Paul McCartney was the one that INSISTED Jimi Hendrix be placed on the bill at Monterey!

That Otis , Hendrix split was great. I remember my father getting it in the 80's and he said it was his favorite record . We listened to it in the car on the way home. I was already a Hendrix fan but that day I became an Otis fan too

@@sunoclockoneday2576 It was really a shame that Otis & Jimi both died so young. Both of them could have created a lifetime of music that would be similar to but more spectacular than people like Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder & our late grate Jerry Garcia. I remember in 1990 after seeing the Dead in Atlanta on April 1,2 & 3. And I had been working & got my income tax check & bought a '79 Camaro. And this guy I knew named Mark Wilhoit told me & my brother that he had 3 tickets to see the Dead in Louisville,KY on July 6th. And if I would drive & us split $ for a room for 2 nights us 3 could go. No sooner than we got to Louisville & got a room for 2 nights a lightning storm hit! And we are on the 7th floor of the Holiday Inn and for 2 hours there is this really awesome air to ground lightning going on. And although with such a strong storm there is the threat of tornadoes but idk we just knew it would be fine & blow over. And we just sat back & enjoyed the lightning. Smoked a couple of J's & crashed early so we could get up & go early. It was about 110° that day and they opened with "Hell in a Bucket". And that was what it felt like too with the sun still setting. I'll always think of Cardinal Stadium in Louisville as "Hell in a Bucket Stadium!!" We had such a great time!!! During the 2nd Set Jerry didn't leave the stage during drums. And so it kinda made Brent, Bobby & Phil hurry up & come back out. Little did we know that was the last time we would see Brent Mydland play. Then we got to see Bruce Hornsby fill in before they found Vince Welnick. And I dearly loved hearing Bruce on that Grand Piano. But aahhh!!! whenever he picked up that accordion it made my blood cringe! Wow. I know I've gone on way too much. Sorry... have a goodnight.
