Jerry Fuller Live Ricky Nelson's Travelin' Man + Gary Puckett Young Girl
After talking about the song he wrote, 79-year-old singer-songwriter Jerry Fuller performs his smash hit composition Travelin' Man (1:07). The song was recorded by Ricky Nelson in 1961. His version of Travelin' Man reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over six million copies worldwide.
Later as a CBS Columbia Records producer, Jerry Fuller discovered Gary Puckett and The Union Gap. He wrote Young Girl for the pop group. The song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in 1968.
Fifty years later, 75-year old Gary Puckett's special guest for the evening is Jerry Fuller. They perform a duet of their second million selling gold single (after Woman, Woman). Jerry Fuller originally wrote Travelin' Man for Sam Cooke, but Cooke's manager was unimpressed and did not keep the demo. Jerry Fuller's song was passed along to Ricky Nelson who recorded the single right away. The rest is pop music history.

Jerry Fuller is another unsung hero of American songwriters...he produced and often wrote many big hits including 22 songs for Ricky Nelson [hits and album songs] besides Traveling Man ....most of us had no clue he wrote these other tunes, just like we had no idea who wrote all those other hits written by Mann and Weil, King and Goffin, Lieber and Stoller, Holland Dozier-Holland, Mac Davis, and all the others. Cynthia Weil, the co -writer of You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin', died June 1, 2023. I'm going to finally put out my songs on an album called Superhits and other Failures...lol

I was at the show last night. It was a pleasure to see Jerry Fuller sing Travelin' Man and hear him join Gary for Young Girl! Fun night!!!
I met Gary Puckett and the Union Gap band when i was around 8 years old. My mom was a professional dancer who did some show with him and she brought me on stage to meet everyone.
Jerry can sing. Did all the backup vocals for Ricky Nelson with who else but Mr. Glen Campbell.

Jerry Fuller looks like the kind of guy I would enjoy meeting as a fellow songwriter. The song Travelinj' Man was an absolute natural for Ricky Nelson or maybe other singers as well. I love the backup singers in that song as well. The song Young Girl I could never get into, at least not with the horns in it.
