He lived here though, so he's American but he also has a soft spot for the UK. It's like Bill Hicks said, when you love somewhere you see all its flaws, but you can make fun of it - but no one else can. Ultimately it's just banter. The videos bashing the UK have plenty of knucklehead Brits in a twist, and some of them trigger me, sure.

If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined. Many Londoners don't know there is anything North of Watford Gap either so Americans can be forgiven for thinking they can 'do' the UK in a couple of days and the rest of Europe by the end of the week.

Love that you can laugh along with us Brits, its all harmless fun.

As a born and bred Englishman I don't see any controversy only people who find Clarkson funny and people who are wrong. Not to worry though he insults pretty much everyone and everything (including England) so any offense taken is exactly that, taken, by choice.

The persona of Clarkson is all a theatrical act. It goes with the cars. If you watch Clarkson s Farm however, you'll see a truer real version of himself. A guy who cares, worries and is thoroughly real. He's our loved one. Our institution.

You should also watch his career best documentaries on St Nazaire and The Victoria Cross. Absolutely outstanding presenting and story telling.

Clarkson is the goat. So funny shame there aren't tv shows like this anymore says a lot that it was the biggest tv show in the world for years.

The first clip is from an interview show he did for the BBC called "Clarkson". In one episide he removed Wales from a map and stuck it in a microwave oven, so I don't think it's just the USA he doesn't like.

Pretty sure I was still a kid when that show aired. It was like he sat down with a producer who said "Behave, don't upset anyone" and he went and upset everyone anyway. Great stuff 😂

Clarkson levels his sniping at loads of things, not just Americans. It's usually tongue-in-cheek but just occasionally, there's a glint in his eye which says "you think I'm joking?" 😄. After he was fired from Top Gear and the other two quit, the BBC brought in various people as presenters to try and continue the show. Some were okay and some were poor but the damage was done and eight years after he left, the BBC announced that Top Gear had been cancelled for the "foreseeable future".

Was a great show. Shame they had to sack him. The show wasn’t the same after that. Unfortunately, he slapped a member of the crew and that was instant dismissal. If your boss slapped you or slapped your son at work, you’d want him fired too.

The most viewed show in the world included piss-takes at Americans' expense. It's a beautiful thing.

Nobody does satire better than the British

Clarkson can also be very serious, such as when he made the excellent programmes about the Victoria Cross and the raid on St. Nazaire and Arctic Convoy P17. Both well worth watching, well researched and presented.

I wasn't so keen on the Arctic Convoy one but the first two were Clarksons vest ever work. The making of the St Nazaire programme is also fantastic.

It's all banter at the end of the day. We know we're very close as allies and as friends. It's our way of showing it to each other, I hope it never changes.

The old Top Gear is the absolute pinnacle of madness, hysterical and utmost chaotic car show ever. I never watch the new series as it’s lacking everything that Jeremy and the boys started. No it’s not politically correct and that’s what’s missing today. It’s called having a good sense of humour 😆👍

@@Samson1 he recited a very outdated version of ‘eenie meeny miney mo’ which included catching an N word by it’s toe and ‘when it squeals let him go’… i’m a fan of clarkson but he’s certainly had his mishaps over the years which leads to him being a controversial figure.

Clarkson is the kind of guy with whom it would be great to have a merry, boozy free-ranging conversation down at the pub. More nuanced stuff, however, well he can do it but not just his thing.

Clarkson's Farm is a very good watch! Hilarious in places!

Jeremy is a national treasure and nobody is exempt from his rants.

Clarkson was actually being witty and kind about Americans - but accurate. What amuses me, and as everybody outside of the US is well aware, Yanks love to brag and say how worldly wise they are - they know everything. Take JPS as an example. He makes a fool of himself in the UK on his first visit, and now is quite smug in having a poke at his own contrymen - thereby falling into typical American bragging mode. Amazing what a single visit can do, for now he classes himself as Mr knows-it all. Most of what he actually learnt in the UK was how to get pissed every night!

Jeremy joined Bob Seger in Detroit for an American muscle car event (years ago), somewhere on KZread. Nothing but love.

Hello Joel. Americans often express that their country is the best. Jeremy is from Yorkshire, God's own country, so obviously finds this amusing and being British must take the Mickey as often as possible.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May did a car show in the UK for many years. Their best shows are when they are on an adventure in difficult places. Often hilariously funny and seriously painful. 😮😅

The thing with Jeremy is he enjoys teasing people and getting a reaction. I think he’s funny and top gear wasn’t the same when those three guys left. Haven’t watched it since really

Just to be clear: there is no controversy around Jeremy. He is a genius creator. Has his quirks and features. But there is not that much going around him. He is just having his farm show.

He understands comedy

The "Pickup Truck" + "urge to marry my cousin" rural America theme is a typical recurring Clarkson line. As in "..so when the time comes for the typical backwoods American to marry his cousin, all that's needed is to tie a couple of ribbons to his Pickup's door handles.". I.i.r.c, I first heard the old American acronym "PECF" on a Clarkson in the US feature.

Top Gear was great, they basically got to be silly boys hooning round in cars 🤣 the races across Europe in real dungers were fun. Since Clarkson was fired it went downhill and I don’t watch it anymore. The new cast doesn’t have that same vibe as the others.

Clarkson is brilliant and asks questions/says things that others are afraid to ask. You should watch Top Gear Run Out of Alabama - hilarious

I think that what makes Britain and America strong we all can take the Micky out of each other and laugh at it, but we are still Pals and Allies.👋

most US towns and cities are named after UK towns and cities, including a small village in the UK where I live that has about 10 houses called Pennsylvania, we don't get many American visitors.

Don't worry, compared to what he says about bus drivers and truck (semi) drivers, what he said here is practically praiseworthy.

I think the reason for Clarkson's constant belittling of the American culture is because alot of Americans have no idea of anything going on outside of their own country. There are some Americans who have bothered to learn a bit about the rest of the world we inhabit, but I feel they're in the minority. Heck, I saw a video clip where some guy was presented with a map of the world. He was asked where Iraq was. Considering his own countries servicemen and women were fighting in that country at the time, you'd of thought that question would have been easy. But no, he pointed at Australia. He genuinely thought Australia was Iraq!

Quick jibe? It's not a Clarkson thing. It's all of us, I'm afraid. 😅 I'm very impressed by you knowing the Cotswolds and the Lake District, though. 👍
