    Fun fact: Jeremy loves Gran Turismo, loves Forza, and actually owns an arcade machine of Sega Rally Championship 1995 where all his top ten times are within a tenth of each other. He absolutely LOVES racing games.

    I haven't seen it mentioned here, but Jeremy gave GT4 an actual review back when it came out. He asked sony to give him a version of the game with all cars unlocked because his career meant he had actually driven most of the cars in the game in real life. He praised the game for its graphics and simulation but critiscised it for its complete lack of a damage model and certain unrealistic abilities while driving (like being able to brake and accelerate as shown in this video)

    @@romansenger2322 oh ok. Yeah I don’t know a whole lot about it. I’m only 22 and played the game when I was very young lol. But It makes sense that large damage models are just too expensive and tedious to implement. The only game I know of that does is built around it and that’s beamng. Although I’d not see a game like gt implementing soft body physics into a game ever in the next 30 years it’s nice to think about.

    @@Grognak148 There was no damage in GT4 because of the hardware that the PS2 had. Polyphony was already pushing the PS2 to it's limits. GT5 had damage.

    I'm a Gran Turismo player, but I've always heard that 4 was the peak of FM. 5 brought nothing to the table, 6 was a step down despite the graphics, and 7 was just the same game.

    @@agentsus9681 that's just the Motorsport series,the Horizon series however is just open world racing+civilian cars and some super cars/antique cars here in there+good graphics,all the Horizon games are similarish except in graphics and map design

    I think the car in the gran turismo 4 was an NSX Type R, s version which is a tiny bit faster than the one they had on the track. Hats off to polyphony if they're that accurate.

    @@WARNEY2K9 that would be the opposite of precision hahaha the D pad instantly gives you 100% input for whichever direction you choose, while the sticks give you the option to give lighter inputs where needed

    Over the years I've done 1000's of laps of the Nurburgring on many different consoles and games. Then a few years ago I got the chance to actually drive it in a decent car (BMW135) and - yes - you CAN learn the track well enough to be competitive on it, but you probably shouldn't. I discovered there is no "reset" button in real life and very nearly killed myself. Pants shittingly close.

    @@JustBeowulf...yes, easily. I'd done 4 or 5 laps, felt good with the car...was slicing time off each lap but then had a wobble at about 200 kph in the compression. Some snap over-steer that corrected itself and I was ok...but I finished that lap going very slowly and said thank-you Lord and walked away. It happened in an instant. The 'save' was simple luck, not skill. Great track though. lol

    Thank you for this I love the Gran Turismo racing games. My first ever video game was Gran Turismo 4 (not racing game. Video game.) They truely were my childhood along with top gear. I still play them 16 years on and they're still wonderful games. It was amazing to see these 2 legends come together. Thank you.

    His track times on the real Laguna were 2'01", 1'59", and last one 1'57". Other than the differences in the game vs real life, he attributed being mindful about not crashing as a big factor for the 20 sec time difference compared to the in game time.

    Thank you sir, this is literally my childhood. I grew up on Gran Turismo and Top gear, I played Gran turismo 1 as a 5 year old, maybe even younger. I was there for Jeremy Clarkson’s starion, the Jesus special and the Michael Schumacher Stig reveal. I still play Gran Turismo 4 Whatever man I will become, these two things will have been largely responsible for it

    Gran Turismo-2 for PS1, and Gran Turismo-4 for PS2. Classic games (though Japan got the better intro with both)... and I feel ancient for not just knowing both, but for seeing that 2002 clip when it aired on BBC2 XD.

    He cut through that corner with TVR Chimaera without hitting the outer wall despite the slide. That's actually an impressive effort, considering how easy it is for the TVR cars in that game to slide when they use the default tyres.

    The problem is the standard tyre choice in GT4 is Sports Medium compound, which are semi-slicks. Of course it would be much faster

    I think the tyres that come as standard in all cars in GT4 have a sports compound. With normal compound I could only do 1:57 in GT4.

    I agree I think that where he was getting his braking and acceleration all skewed. If he was on normal tyres I reckon the car would have behaved even more realistically and been a similar time

    it's funny how they went back and forth in the menus. jeremy goes from gt mode world circuits, to somehow being in a race event with laguna seca (which they were 3rd place in), then in arcade mode, then back in gt mode and seemingly arcade mode again.

    It's cool to see Polyphony worked on the graphics for the GTR. Kazunori Yamauchi is a big fan of the GTR and the GTR also has a fantastic place in the games as a very valuable car if you ever pick one up.

    I grew up playing Gran Turismo 4 on my PlayStation slim two I got back in 2009 I was playing the game till 2013 when it broke down :( Being 10 years old I was very surprised when I grew up that Nurburgring is a real track, I used to get scared and ignore that track but since 2014 I begin to come back and do laps specifically in my bmw m5 e60, now im 23 and it is my childhood dream since then
