Jeremy Anderson | Motivational Message to Students
Imagine you have a dollar bill. You go to the store, and there’s something you want to buy for 90 cents. Can you use the dollar bill to pay for it? Yes, you can! Now, let’s say there’s another item for 85 cents, but it costs 96 cents after tax. Can you still buy it with the same dollar bill? Yes, you can! But wait, what if you crumple up the dollar bill? Does it lose its value? No, it’s still worth a dollar. Now, let’s get creative. Imagine you step on the dollar bill, put it in the trash with other dirty things, and then someone unfolds it. How much is it worth now? It's still a dollar! It's still valuable even if you tear the dollar bill in half. You can tape it back together, wipe it off, and it’s worth a dollar again. So, just like that dollar bill, you have value and worth. You're still valuable no matter what happens or how tough things get. If you’re someone whose dad isn’t around, or if your parents are divorced and there are problems at home because your dad isn’t there, raise your hand. It’s tough, but don’t lose hope. I’m reminded of a young athlete named Simone Biles. You might think her parents were gymnasts who trained her from a young age, but actually, her biological parents weren’t in her life due to prison and drug issues. She was adopted by her grandparents, who raised her with love and care. Now, she’s a champion with gold medals. It’s surprising because she didn’t come from a family of athletes but from one with struggles. This shows that it’s not about where you start but the effort you put in. Some people are only concerned with themselves, while others settle for being average. But you’re not meant to be average. Simone Biles worked hard. When others went to prom, she trained. She missed out on fun things, but she was focused on her goals. This is true for everyone. Some of you might have an easier path because of your family, while others might have to work harder due to their background. But that’s what shapes us. Success doesn’t happen overnight; it comes from overcoming challenges. Take the example of the WhatsApp founder. He offered his app to Facebook, but they turned him down. That rejection didn’t stop him. He kept working on his dream, and eventually, Facebook bought WhatsApp for billions. He had a dream, and he made it a reality. He didn’t wait for someone to believe in him; he believed in himself and worked hard to make it happen. So, remember, no matter your situation, you have the potential to achieve great things.
