Lip's writing was frustrating on Shameless but also very real how very intelligent guys who don't have drive fall into the cracks. Its no wonder Carl and Ian thrived when Lip didn't. They may not have Lip's intelligence but they had drive and discipline that Lip never had. Lip is the cautionary tale of genius unrealized.

Ian never got an offer from MIT or a recommendation to WestPoint like Lip did. Everyone in Lip's life tried their damnest to help Lip rise above it all. Mandy sacrificed a lot for him and barely got any thanks from him. Fiona did too and Lip never gave her the credit she deserved. Lip always felt a little entitled. Lip was offered so may opportunities, squandered them all and settled for less.

He comes across as really gracious, including giving shoutouts to the other cast and those who helped him with the role and to local restaurants that could use the support. Really good human being vibes.
I don't how many lives he's lived but he has this very authentic way of acting that makes you feel like you're watching a real person's life. From a poor dude living on the southside of Chicago with his dysfunctional family to a Chicago chef, he nails it every time.
My brother passed 3 years ago and he would have LOVED The Bear. I wanted to talk to him about this show the entire time I was watching it. @@kellypatterson4412 LMAO are you joking? Yea his skills got better and he got worse as a person. He's screwing around while the kitchen is in chaos, that's not 'time management'...its basic common sense, situational awareness and common decency! He went from being a fun and nice guy to being selfish and pompous. The only way to explain it is that the writers didn't want all the characters to have positive development so they made one character regress to a selfish jerk. If he had pulled that BS in restaurants I've worked in he'd have been FIRED as soon as he walked out. My head chef would've said, "if you leave now don't bother coming back". How anyone (like the OP) could say that character had "lots of growth" is beyond me. Clearly he's not watching the same show I am.
Love that Seth allows his guests to actually tell a story and fully answer his questions, lots of hosts always cut off their guests and you can tell how rushed they feel. Jeremy Allen is so adorable. I love the show. I dated a chef and it really does capture the chaos in the kitchen. He would come home sometimes and cry, but he loved the work despite the stress.
I love when actors get to/want to research their roles. It’s even better for them when their new skill can be applied in the real world. Now he’ll be a better cook. How cool!
I totally agreed with other food service employees assessment that sometimes the show is just too real…It can sometimes bring back those tense feelings you had at work..It’s really a well acted and written show and definitely worth the watch👍🏼

What a wonderfully fluid and inquisitive conversation. I've been eyeing the show on Hulu and will definitely give it a watch now. Kudos to Jeremy and Seth!
There's a part in the show where Jeremy is checking the temp of chicken. The skewer his uses has to be held to his face. As a chef the nerve endings fingers don't pick up heat anymore. So you have to find some other part of your body to check the temperature. A nod too all them chefs that sacifice a part of themself and i just loved that detail in the show.
Amazing show, I use to work as a line cook and this show absolutely nails what a hectic kitchen looks and feels like. Can't wait for season 2, must watch.
One thing I noticed watching this show, there are so many close ups. It really adds to the intensity and anxiety of the kitchen.
I just started working in a kitchen for the first time coming from a construction background. This show is so close to my work it’s insane. The only difference is we’re an upscale kind of restaurant but we all call each other chef and everyone who’s there wants to be there and it’s awesome. I’ve been there a month and I love the chef life.
Him saying, “No.” when asked if he thought he might be good at this, shows that he put in a lil work and knows what’s up. Talented actor. Amazing show. Shouts to Matty, too. Judge is so sick lol
The Bear reminded me of working in kitchens the same way going to fashion school reminded me of Project Runway - WAY more in the nose than anyone anticipated.

From all of my experience in the restaurant industry the thing that the bear really nails is the full spectrum of social dynamics that you experience in these environments. It captures that perfect balance of passion, warmth, pressure, hostility, aggression, cruel humor, love etc.

I read a comment on KZread that some guy who had worked in the restaurant industry, couldn't watch more than one episode because it gave them so much anxiety... Because it's so realistic .. it's an amazing show by the way
A lot of people praise the accuracy with which the restaurant environment was portrayed but I have no experience there so I want to praise the dialogue. It felt alive and real and electric, and each character clearly had their own voice. I think it also portrayed how different people deal with grief in their own ways in a lovely, matter-of-fact way without making it too melodramatic. Every aspect of the show seems really well thought out and that one episode that's almost completely dine in a single take is one of the most exciting things to happen on a show in a while for me.
