Jennifer Warnes - Let The Sunshine In (1969)
Музыка
Before Jennifer Warnes had her first big hit in 1976 with the #6 charted "Right Time Of The Night", and two #1 duets from hit films ("Up Where We Belong" with Joe Cocker from "An Officer & A Gentleman", and "Time Of My Life" with Bill Medley from "Dirty Dancing"), she recorded a double-sided single in 1969 billed simply as Jennifer. The songs were both from the musical "Hair"; "Let The Sunshine In" and "Easy To Be Hard". The single never reached Billboard's Hot 100 chart, never even coming close, because it reached the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart at a lowly #128.

Funny she did not become a bigger hit then she was. Really talented. Saw her in the LA debut of Hair. Wow !!! If you find any info on her wearabouts let me know. I sang for a few years in Newport Beach CA Prison of Socrates and the Ice House in Pasadena. Fun times but I settled for a great wife. 7 kids and 19 grandchildren. Life is GOOD !!!

It’s Feb 2022: in less than two weeks, we have lost forty years of peace talks and trees of brotherhood that our parents sowed as seeds of hope, singing this song in peaceful mobs against the craziness of war ; and here are we now, in a much darker future which no one really wants this way. Jennifer Warnes has always had one of the BEST voices in the music business. Just a few short years down the road from “Hair,” she’ll singing such hits as, “Right Time of The Night,” “I’ve Had The Time of My Life,” with Bill Medley and “Up Where We Belong” with Joe Cocker.” All were massive hits.
She and Bert Sommer were both members of the cast of HAIR. His song, "Jennifer", is alleged to have been inspired by her. He was the very first act at WOODSTOCK and footage of his performance is on YT. I first saw her on SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR and knew then she was/is special. One of, if not THE BEST, voices in music....ever.

Eu tinha 2 anos na época hoje vou fazer 60 anos e sempre gostei muito desse gênero musical, parabéns
She's the one who sings second harmony with Cohen on "Take this waltz"! I didn't know and I've always wondered who that voice belongs to. Fantastic vocalist. Amazing timbre and range. It's the kind of voice that drills right into you. A ton of soul. EDIT: I'm annoyed that the first part only lasts roughly a minute, because I'd like to hear more of her before the Las Vegas brass line kicks in. And upon closer inspection the first part is supposed to return, so in theory we could have gotten more. But I see from the lyrics that things get a little "crazy" (from a mainstream POV) with mentions of Leary and such, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ugly head of censorship and the abomination that is the war on drugs is the culprit. Shame, because this is the stuff of legend.
La amo!! No sabia que era ella! La oi por primera vez a los 15 años cuando vi Hair en Cali Colombia!!
Yes, the sunshine was, truly, a sight to behold that day.

The talent was always there, so it took some persistence for Jennifer Warnes to break through. Seven years without a hit is nearly the end of a career in the recording biz. The Fifth Dimension's cover of "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" probably quashed this version. I was jocking in college radio when an Arista rep gave me a copy of her first LP for that label in 1976. While "Right Time of the Night" was the first big hit, it was another cut, "I'm Dreaming" that really caught my ear. It ended up as the second single, the second of many. And she was certainly lovely.
