JENKEM - Preserving Original Bricks from the Brooklyn Banks
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
When word got out that NY was removing the majority of the original bricks from the Brooklyn Banks-for good this time-we couldn’t let these treasures be lost to the dustbin of history.
In the deadest days of quarantine lock-down, we biked out to the Banks to get our hands on as many bricks as we could carry with the idea to send them out to the skaters that made them significant.
Though it would’ve been sick to save wheelbarrows of bricks and send them out to every skater that’s ever done a wallride, we settled on four because they were damn heavy and it’s the thought that counts.

Me too that was always my favorite spot, even though I never skated it 😔
Used to take the train from Jersey and spend the day skating the Banks probably in 1996/97’. There was an energy there in the 90’s. Def some of my best skating memories. It was like leaving reality and entering the Banks for the day. It was like it’s own society in there.
You only took 4 and didn't bring a bag or duffle lol? Yall coulda hit a fat lick on em!

Hah, thanks for sending Keith a brick. We were bummed about the banks getting shut down. So many good memories.
RIP kieth hufnagel im glad y’all were able to get this to him before he passed
I have childhood memories of taking the trains here before I could drive and skating the banks. This is bittersweet to watch! Thanks Jenkem

Always been my favorite skate spot.
Man every wheel sport has amazing clips from that place. RIP man. Wish I could have skated it once in it's heyday.
At least we have Session to keep the memories alive. The historical challenges are the best part about that game. Im learning about tricks that were done there that I had no idea happened.
For the bridge to be supported, hopefully the bank might be rebuilt as it was, except this time using 'crete. The eerie train sounds when they get close, made it seem haunted !
Bro, this video was so dope. Sick to hear a bit from the legends at the end. I do think Koston should have gotten one.
Jenkem is putting out the best skate content out of anyone. Respect.
Seeing the footage back than seemed so raw. Something about skating in the 90s to early 2000s is s something that can never be felt again. I can't explain it it's something you have to experience for yourself if you live throughout the course of it like I did for that time. Now and days skateboarding doesn't have that "feeling" no more. It's to commercialize trendy and being invaded by hypebeast and culture vultures which I think totally ruin the raw feel old school skateboarding. Yes I'll remove my boomer nostalgia goggles now.
All hail cardial
Love these nostalgic mini docs. You guys should do one for EMB ?
The lean on that 180 was beyond style holy moly
My friend Kim was living in the US on a student year abroad and managed to get a brick from EMB before it got completely shut down to skating. He got it and mailed to a friend of ours back in London. I hope he still has it.
Love jenkem. the guy is a great journalist
Re-spect Jenkem. Much love to the Banks, from TN.
I only been skating for a year now but when I read up on iconic spots like this one it sucks because I feel like I missed out BIG TIME.
I hope Mike V's got the chunk of fence he knocked off. Funny thing about this spot is that the banks aren't that good or fun to skate. But as the only available bust-free spot with banks in NYC it became the center of the NYC scene. It also made skaters better because they really had to learn to pop & boost. And they look great in photo. If these were in AZ, ABQ, or Las Vegas no one would go there.

Glad I got my BK Banks bricks 🧱
From the west coast that spot was a spot I always wanted to check out in real life like not even to skate just to feel the true east coast vibe smh rip
sad what a cool looking spot
heart breaking to see it in that state!! lovely idea to reward the og's with a part of it though. i wonder how much skin was deposited on each brick over the years lol the place must literally be filled with skaters dna. bless lads hopefully they rebuild it in brand new brick lol (dreaming again) xx
That’s so fucking dope! Never got to make the pilgrimage there but I watched all that footy as a kid!
mannnn i was there in 2010 they just closed them for the first work. couldn't get in because cops were on you straight away. 3 months i tried and never got to skate there. thought one day i'd get too

Go at night I managed to find a spot
I was there for most of those tricks done , mike V needs a brick , the trick were done further up the bank by the wall
Nice content
"I sent you a brick" sounds like Escobar talk but no just a skateboarder with a literal brick haha.
I was there when mayor g.was in his limo when the mike V almost got hit by the limo , next day a huge wall was put on top of the lil wall , then Edwin Delarosa bmx guy jumped over the huge wall !!!
bless up
That was tight
hangin on
gangstarr in the back was an excellent choice
jav was a great pick, but so was pappalardo.. new york kids through and through, grew up at the spot.

To this very day, I dwell on not landing the switch barley grind down the 10 stair I tried back in 2004. I tried it again a couple years later but still no luck. Out of all the bigger close-to-makes I've had over the years, that's the one that got away.
Cards is the best dude!
someone give me a little update? so is it all completely gone yet or not? sad things like this happen, carlsbad gap, brooklyn banks so many more legendary spots just gone.
