First time hearing Jelly Roll. I now know why you recommended him so strongly. He is simply fantastic. I am a fan for life.
Jelly is just REAL. He's not bubblegum and puppies he's LIFE'S HARD and you know it. Thanks for this. I really appreciate it. Honestly for me when Jelly Roll did Simple Man WITH Shinedown. That is the other example for me of what it can mean. Song wise the last song I shared with my late wife Lorna before she passed was Faith Hill's version of "There You'll Be" from the soundtrack of Pearl Harbor because Everywhere I am there she'll be. That one destroys me, every single time.

Almost home is going to heaven. When you hear the elderly talk about going home that's what they are talking about.
I looked at the song differently. I thought the guy was next to freezing to death & was dreaming of going "home", heaven.

Craig Morgan does have a son that died, but it was years after this song was written. In fact, a song he wrote about his son's death is what brought him back into the mainstream after being away for about five years.

I've been watching Jelly Roll for a long ass time such a humble dude amazing artist and just a badass singer/rapperr/human!!
First time I ever heard this song, Craig Morgan (who was a Army Veteran) and Chris Young came out to our deployment to perform for us. I loved this song. I listened to it every night until I got home. Craig Morgan did a song called "The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost" which was dedicated to his son, who passed away from a drowning accident. 10:44 not quite. Kerry Kurt Phillips and Craig Morgan wrote the song together long before Craig Morgan’s son died. Craig Morgan did a song about his son The Father, My Son, and The Holy Ghost. In an interview Kerry Phillips said the most asked question is was the man sleeping or dying and he said the thought never crossed his mind that the man was dying. The original idea for the song was a man falling asleep on a plane and then they decided a singer would come upon a man fallen on hard times.
