It's a tragedy that all these Broadway shows are not recorded professionally. The actors would perform with no audience but a film crew to document and preserve the entire work. For art and historical enjoyment for all.

Why the hell did they change this for Broadway? Cuccioli can do no wrong as Jekyll & Hyde and this is the Jekyll & Hyde that I imagine. This Hyde is how I imagine him from the book (Evil, malevolent, creepy and prone to violent outbursts) This version of Hyde and Lucy's relationship, if that's what you wanna call it, is what it should be, she is terrified of him and wants nothing to do with him. Dangerous game was done brilliantly in this original version, it sums up their dynamic so well, Hyde keeps forcing himself on her and she tries to stay away from him. This is THE version that I acknowledge, truly a gem.

This version has so much more subtlety in its directing... like how Hyde stops and fingers the cross on the wall above Lucy’s bed, and I just like the script better too. They cut the unnecessary dialogue which I also prefer, and it has more moments of humor. The dynamic between Hyde and Lucy is just so well developed here too, their whole scene right after A New Life is just full of tension. Robert really gives Hyde more depth than just “evil and horny” which I adore, and their chemistry is electric

I very much enjoyed the original concept recording with Anthony Warlow, but Robert Cuccioli did an very good job as well. And the whole cast did a fantastic job, especially Linda Eder. I'm very glad I got to see this version, and will see how it compares to a more modern version. Though, sadly it sounds like the play has lost it's charm down the road. Good thing this recording is still around for us to enjoy.

I gotta join in with the mob of people wondering why they changed Dangerous Game so much. I'm sure they had their reasons, but...all that awesome, dynamic blocking! And the way Rob characterized Hyde so awesomely with the use of just a few chairs! The crouch, sitting backwards on one in a deceptively casual manner, purposely falling forwards towards Lucy, knocking them over as he stalks towards her, then EFFORTLESSLY STEPPING OVER THE CHAIR SHE TRIED TO BLOCK HIM WITH. All that perfection turned into a scene where he just sits behind her while she occasionally struggles a little. Well anyway, thank God this video exists so we can enjoy this version.

The recording with Anthony Warlow and this tour happened roughly the same year - 1994/95. The recording was what's called a concept recording, an album of potential music for the show as a marketing tool to garner support for a new production, which had undergone significant changes since a prior production in 1990. This tour was then created, with yet more changes made as it went on, before being completely reworked for Broadway with a different director. It essentially means everything was a work in progress until that point.

What you're seeing is Jekyll completely giving up on his work entirely and making certain no one would make the same mistake

He really liked the role of Jekyll and Hyde because not only did he come back to play the lead male character there was also a Jekyll and Hyde South Korean Tour and I also found out that there is a Jekyll & Hyde Resurrection album which you can find on Spotify or KZread and you can also watch Jekyll & Hyde resurrection late show on KZread as well.

Having seen the Broadway play, I am very glad they “tweaked” it and changed the sets, lines and songs. Glad they took out most of the scenes in the Red Rat. Too over the top. It did give more of a sense of Lucy and Hyde’s sexual relationship for Dangerous Games, but still like the final better. So glad to have seen the tour.

It helps that this actor does it well. Unlike Hasselhoff.

Maybe it was not in Broadway, because of the afterlife scene or whatever that was in 2:10:47 ? That scene was probably too traumatic or insensitive to some people.
Robert Cuccioli is easily the best version of Jekyll/Hyde in the musical’s run! He actually got a Tony nomination for his performance :)

It is, after all, just speculation. :D
I'm new to this piece of art - like really new - but is there a way i can watch Anthony Warlow? KZread's algorithm suggested the soundtrack & i love his voice omg

Unfortunately, Anthony Warlow has never appeared in a fully-staged production of the show. He did do a concert version a few years ago.

I'm seeing many different dates. The gothic musical thriller soundtrack by Anthony Warlow - when was this released? I don't quite understand what pre or post Broadway is. Very new to musical theatre in general.

Same cast as Broadway. Anthony Warlow performed on the 1994 album, but has never done the show live, save for a concert a few years ago.
Can someone please explain to me what was happening at 2:06:40? I’m very confused.

After Jekyll saw what happened to Lucy he thought the only thing he could do was kill himself. But before he could, he trashed his lab so if anyone came down snooping after he was dead, they wouldn't make another Hyde. What you're seeing is Jekyll completely giving up on his work entirely and making certain no one would make the same mistake

@@BunnyBoo0802 if you read it in the script, it also says he's also doing it out of anger and sadness in himself. The exact wording is ". His clothing still stained in her blood, he now knows his life is destroyed, Emma has abandoned him, Danvers fed up with his behavior, Utterson's duties as a friend fulfilled beyond the straining point of most friendships, Jekyll's own father lost in madness with no cure, and now sweet Lucy dead. Yes, Jekyll sees now that he is utterly alone."

I think so, if you look it up, the listing available is called the 2000 tour version, but there are a few changes, ie., Lisa to Emma, no Girls of the Nights, and the Dregs to the Red Rat. IMO, the one currently available is actually a perfect blend of productions

No, not exactly. My community theater is doing the MTI show now and while there are some similar songs and dialogue of this run, they primarily follow the 2000 tour. It’s weird how many versions are actually floating around out there, but that’s how this show is. I prefer the concept album honestly the most.

It could have been him I really could not tell because the quality of this video is not that great I looked up his bio which said that he played as Theo in this show then eventually became an understudy to play Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde for Robert Cuccioli, Then once Bob left the show Rob Evan took over the role of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde.

+McKenzie Virga, Christiane Noll, all three leads were the same as they were on Broadway, the only major cast differences were Sir Danvers was played by Martin Van Treuren, the same guy who plays Spider in this & the Broadway version as well as Lord Savage in the Broadway version; & Utterson was played by the same man from the 1990 Alley Theatre production & the 1994 Gothic Musical Thriller album.
