I know they're not related, but Schipperkes look so much like a miniature black Norwegian elkhound, especially with the tail!

They might be long distance related! There is a discussion on whether Schipperkes are shepherds or Spitz dogs (like the Norwegian elkhound) I personally think they are Spitz dogs!

before you get a schipperkee,be prepared.i never thought i could love anything so much.being retired we were together 24/7.hoped the day would never come but he went to sleep couple months ago.i will not be able to go on.unbearable pain.cant eat,shower,havent left couch.keep asking god to just take me,i cant help it.im sure others have similar stories,but these dogs are like no other dog.just want to go to heaven and be with shipper.

Sorry to hear about that, Garland. I lost my best buddy earlier this year, and it truly wrecked me. I'll be thinking of you and hang in there.

Schipperkes are super smart. My dog used to know the name of his toys and I didn't really train him to do it, just from using the words around him naturally. Maybe six different toys, keys, squeeky toy, ball, bear, etc.

I miss my Schipperkes !

I think I may have asked you in another Jekku post, but which breeder did you get him from and where are they located? I think I like the structure of European ones more than the USA ones. I also like that they keep their tails there.

Schipperkes are indeed a very intelligent breed and simply outdo most of the larger dog breeds. They are shepherds after all.
