I had been practicing the Moonwalk for some time, and it dawned on me in our kitchen [on the night before the taping] that I would finally do the Moonwalk in public on Motown 25.

It was born as a breakdance step, a 'popping' type of thing that black kids had created dancing on the street corners in the ghetto.

Mario Scharer anyway the footage is fake, the puppy is plastic. Michael was a perfectionist and he demanded alot of power, and thats what put him on the top charts, he never gave up

0:06 wow that is so original! I only found out about Jeffery Daniels maybe like 4 years ago? It's really a shame he did not get enough individual exposure.
Jeffrey Daniel did it years before Jackson and taught Jackson the moonwalk or backslide as he called it. Although there's movie footage of it being done as far back as the forties.

Jeffrey was the first person I ever saw do the Moonwalk on American Bandstand. It blew my mind! By the way, it was years before I saw MJ do it. I think the moonwalk originally came from roller skating.

The first time Michael saw someone do the backslide was in a show in Las Vegas a Cher show one of the dancers Damita Joe Freeman who was a Soul Train dancer was on the show and did it. Michael went backstage to ask her to teach him ..she saw it on a PBS special from old B&W footage...then Jeffrey Daniel showed him.

Wow. I knew Jeffrey could dance & that he taught/danced with Michael, but most of this is new to me. Wow, Jeffrey. I wish he had gotten more recognition. He was/is a great artist. I LOVE Michael, but Jeffrey did some moves better than MJ. Wonderful. Great upload!

lol yea ok did you see how smooth jeffrey did it with the dog and he taught michael if it wasent for him then he would have been known to do the backslide a.k.a moonwalk
