Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott Q&A session, Crypticon MN 2010

Bruce Abbott joins Jeffrey Combs at the 2010 Crypticon in Bloomington MN, and immediately dash our hopes and dreams of House of Re-Animator!
It does appear that the listing for House of Re-Animator has been removed from IMDB.
Also, sorry about some of the loud bits.

Mr. Combs: “Hollywood is really playing it safe”...... damn, he said it right there! Totally agree, nothing coming out of Hollywood these days is worth watching

I was in Grad School in 1985, reading The New Yorker in the lobby until a class started, reading the review of Re-Animator, amazed at what the review described & wondering if the midnight theater would ever show it (it didn't). I don't think the VHS had been released a week before I rented it immediately. The whole family loved it. Mom included.

Andrew Robinson (also from Star Trek) mentioned a similar experience, that directors who didn't like Dirty Harry took it out on him. As if actors are the ones who write the movies! They really do take the brunt of this stuff, merely because they're the ones putting their faces out to audiences.

I really don't get the point about them having trouble getting jobs because of being actors in a movie that had an arguably misogynistic scene, considering that a bunch of actual rapist and wife-beating actors (not naming names so as not to start a firestorm but there are several) still get work. WTF Hollywood?

Horror films provoke a reaction from critics and the public that other genres do not. Many films have done much worse to women for the sake of "drama," yet they are seen as acceptable. I think people still have trouble separating the actors from the characters.

I met both of them the first day of the crypticon!. They signed the special edition of Reanimator. Great guys. I went to 4 different horror convention. So many great horror icons. Betsy Palmer, Tony Todd, etc etc

Never say never in regards to a 4th Re-Animator film I still think it will happen.

Honestly I kind of agree with Jeffrey, I’m not sure if House of Re-Animator would’ve been a good idea in the first place due to likely being gonna super dated real fast. Although seeing Re-Animator 4 might be still cool even if we only have the comics right now (although I highly doubt it’ll involve Trump and for the best).

MAJOR thanks to both of them for not wanting to make their movies political, I am soooo damn SICK of movies that do that when the material is totally unrelated to it. It's like a raised middle finger to half the audience and there's directors I used to like whose movies I've stopped watching because of it. About the idea of a Re-animator reboot, I can't see that working in a million years unless they actually cast Combs again, he and Mr. Abbott are 80% of the reason why the original was so good!

+Andrew Tornadoboy a remake of Reanimator would probably suck, since no one makes horror like they used to back in the 80s and 90s. and Jeffrey should definitely be in it. since Bush is long gone maybe the makers could be talked into a fictional president.

A new Re-Animator would be so awesome. I bet it would kill all these crappy new horror movies. They could always get Bruce Campbell to play the President. However, I don't think the world is ready for a movie with Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Campbell. You know what? They should just do Re-Animator vs. Evil Dead. The comic book was actually pretty decent. For an old-school horror fan, that would be Nirvana. The two series would work great together. Re-Animator was a Lovecraft story, and Evil Dead was centered around the Necronomicon, the most important book in Lovecraft mythos.
