Jeff Staple Breaks Down Nike x Pigeon Dunk, Streetwear Culture & His Top 5 Sneakers | GQ
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
"Let me get this straight. You design the FADER, you write, you're a sneakerhead, and you have this brand called Staple that is catching fire in New York?" Starting out as a graphic designer, Jeff Staple asked around the front of Japanese sneaker shops in order to get in front of Marcus Tayui of Nike in the 90s. From that first fateful meeting to sparking a Lower East Side sneaker "riot" when the Nike x Staple Pigeon Dunk was released, the designer takes us through the birth of resell culture he saw burgeoning in Tokyo and Hong Kong, the evolution of the Pigeon Dunk, and reveals his top five sneakers of all time.

Jeff Staple changed the game... that one shoe started the whole sneaker reselling hype/craze
"There were no kids that looked like me" That hit hard. Kudos for not letting that hold you back. Keep giving those behind you something to look forward to. ✨️
Well deserved respect, can’t believe they took this long to feature a OG streetwear legend like Jeff.
A goated video that needed to happen. Much love to the man behind the pigeon, appreciate everything you’ve done for the community 💯🙏🏽
When I was working on And1's creative in 2005 Jeff Staple came in and worked on the creative with us, he was way ahead of his time in regards to his footwear knowledge. Him and Bobbito Garcia know sneakers!
As a former New Yorker resident, I’ve been wanting a staple pigeon dunk it’s like a grail I may never be able to get.
Before I knew the guy, I knew only the dunk that still is loved. He was on Full size run last week and knowing more about his rise through this video is inspiring.
This kinda inspired me more than most of the Ted talks
he shouldve mentioned the warren lotas incident ! im curious to hear his side
I'm loving this recent Jeff Staple spotlight 💯
I once knew a kid who had sold a pair of his black pigeon dunks for like $300. Lol

@@likeanantelope1842 it was the black pigeon pair and this was in 2017/2018 he got utterly ripped off
I've followed his shoes for a long time, but never been close to owning any. I still love his self made story and how he still sounds like a real sneakerhead!!!

@@jasper-hc1pw I appreciate the heads up, but one of the few luxuries I've been able to afford in life is rocking Nike footwear product. Just not the really expensive ones LOL
Wow, amazing list and interview!
so crazy, love it!!
Dude this is so inspiring!
90’s tennis was amazing especially for the U.S. miss those days! Loved Chang, Agassi, and Pete Sampras was my favorite
This series is so sick!
Great interview.
This video was legendary. Thank you GQ
Loved this video and have immediately gone and bought his book!
This vid just makes me 😊…also the fact that he went with black cements for the reason he did…love it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
NYC streetwear legend. Thx Jeff
Truly inspirational 🙏🏽
This was a really cool interview
Knew that’s why I love & rock Staple! Tennis 🎾, Sampras & Chang were my idols growing up and playing.
Mine is the Supreme Black Cement SB Dunk, a mix of his 2 favorites
Disappointed that him and Nike did not want to re-release the pigeon dunks. There are people that truly want to enjoy and wear those sneakers instead letting them sit just so that they could potentially resell as high as possible.
Wish this interview was way longer
I remember when the city series were around 1000-3000. And they were the only shoes really commending that 1000+ price tag.
Never seen these in person ever and I seen some classics in the wild growing up in Santa Barbara County and hitting the strip a lot.
Good Job GQ - good Job Jeff!
Jeff seems so passionate about the culture and his business props to him for keeping it real for New York!
Such a great amazing story
The video we didnt know we needed.
What a legend
Wow never heard this story before...
I remember making the line for them back in 05. And gave up halfway down the line. Didn’t know they were gonna sky rocketed in value. I believe they only made 500 pairs.

That is such a clever title
ayyy shoutout jersey
Crocodile Dundee had a knife, mate.
The pigeon was a Todd Francis bite. Antihero.
When will Jeff do another dunk
Is that a Kaws pigeon on the top of the clothing rack? All the way to the right
👑
Do they come in a different color? I like me some dark colors on me shoes
Jeff you should do a Reebok collab with Michael Chang
👍👍👍
Wish I experienced this lol
I made an hommage to the panda pigeon with my ID dunks.

Im tired of all the 2 disrespect they are nice there I said it better than nice
wonder when Jeff Staple would stop talking about the his pigeon dunk riot. after that his design actually kinda sucked. Hope he could bring something new. (No beef I am a big fan of him)

I just laugh and think NIKE would be so different if JORDAN went to another brand... the ripple trillion financial impact was ridiculous

Adidas wouldn't been the biggest rather than the 2nd biggest if Jordan went with Adidas after the Air Jordan 2.
The repackaged indentured servitude. Guys. If you saw this dude on the street what would you say in your brain. As Sam sanders on his podcast obsess better.
I'll just never understand sneaker culture. Its fascinating, but it makes no sense to me. I barely notice what shoes other people wear................and to pay more than $50 for shoes seems ridiculous especially when they cost a few bucks to make, the rest is just upcharge. It seems like a sucker deal/speculation.
This story more played out than your lady
Old news, who cares 🙄
They ain’t hate you black culture is what started sneaker culture that’s a fact🖤💯
