Copyright is a joke of our modern civilisation limiting artists to some arbitrary measure of "originality". Under these bullshit laws meant to protect rich people who don't create art Artists like Van Gough would've lost lawsuits. Most of our cultural and scientific heritage is derivative works. The idea of modern copyright isn't just complete and utter capitalist bullshit, it's actively seeking to reduce the number of works produced and limiting/preventing the future from seeing them. See e.g. "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Cumulative Research and the Patent Law " (Suzanne Scotchmer , doi:10.1257/jep.5.1.29)

@@qscesz767545 It is a work of art that a human mind alone could conjure up particularly in that era -first decade of the 21st century- to participate in a conversation on whats trancendent. Michaelangelo : Pieta / Jeff Koons : Popeye Both share a similarity which is the death of sacred reality. The former : The sacred person died, the later : The death of todays human senses to what is sacred yet desires to go beyond, to trancend.

@@cereal2373 @Ufuk Demirkol Yup thats Jeff alright, its his style to hire lots of talented artist to complete his art at a time frame, I like how he creates jobs this way, unlike some other presenter they just pick up stuff, call it ready-mades and declare it works-of-art. Yes, I absolutely share your sensibilities when you say (some) of his "ideas" are pretty whack, that also apply to Jeff Koons reflective giant "Baloon Dogs" sculpture as part of the celebration series, its meant to be a transponder, meaning when you look at the art work you see a reflection of YOURSELF ( as part of it ), what does it celebrate ? self amusement? and may I include another giant sculpture, The Statue of Liberty, does it celebrate anything ? if so then what ? Is self amusement in itself a cause for celebration? or is liberty in itself a cause for celebration? nowadays as most peoples ideas becomes whacked there should be a fitting monument for it.

@Sam Farnsworth Well. Jeff Koons is a contemporary pop artist who is, I guess, best known for his kitsch sculptures, such as his breakthrough works (in the 80's or 90's), in which he was having sex with his then girlfriend Cicciolina, an Italian pornstar. To me he is almost a caricature of a modern artist, as if it was all a performance of some kind... but it isn't, it's strictly business. I have never seen a piece of his that would have any substance at all, just surface level eye candy with a lot of production value. He is very rich, so he has a factory of craftsmen / women producing all his vacuous artwork... super convenient, of course, but it's as if he took Andy Warhol's playbook and removed everything artistic in it, just appropriating the business model to make a lot of money. I'm sure many people love his stuff and think it's 'whimsical' or 'spectacular' or whatever, but to me he has always come across as a total phony. I even watched a long documentary about him once, to see if I had misjudged him, but no. He's just a very successful, cynical businessman, dealing in what he calls 'art'. I'm sure many people here will disagree with my grumpy take on Koons, which is fine. Google him and make up your own mind... Personally, I'll pass.
