Great review! Just subscribed. New owner of a YJ that I restored. Mine is a 4.0 I-6 with the auto. There are things you can do to help soften the ride a bit, but yeah, they're bouncy. Fun to drive. Definitely happier below 55mph with the top folded down. You don't see the gray top that often, especially with full doors. Looks like the owner swapped in a 'Sahara' model passenger seat. I daily mine. I agree about roadtripping. Trailer it or flat tow it and enjoy it there. I have a different Jeep for roadtripping.

Exactly on point, its all about the feel, the simplicity, and the freedom. Even 50 years after ww2, the yj still feels so utilitarian and so close to that original MB.

100% correct on the vibe. Not a daily driver, not an SUV, not a car.. a machine. Built to explore. Lifted or modified its just not the same. 90’ies was a true AMC. Well done.

Geweldig dit, I have a 4.0 TJ for over 6 years now, never had an issue with it. This Jeep feels like the best Jeep in the complete line up of Jeeps. The only downside are the Dutch gass prices. Before this TJ I had 2 YJ's, 2 CJ5's, 3 XJ's and one M38-A1. But the most awesome looking Jeep will always be the YJ (imho) One day I hope to swap a YJ tub to my TJ frame . . . best of both worlds in my opinion. 11:48 The drag link joint at the pitman arm is completely shot, watch closely how it moves. Replace this and check the other joins of the steering components as well and I can assure you, the steering will tighten up and it will drive fine on the road. I run 33x12.5x15 tires on my Jeep and it steers very tight on road with a little toe out.

American owner of an 87' Wrangler here. I'm glad y'all liked it. I just want to let you know that if that in fact has the 4-cylinder engine then it is actually a fuel injected throttle body intake. So not a carburetor but great video! I enjoyed it because overall you captured the feeling of driving an old Jeep. I have driven mine on a few three-hour road trips but it’s like being on an Apollo mision when you get above 60 mph. You guys should check out the old Top Gear episode on the wrangler from 1993 which can be found on KZread as well as the Motorweek video on the 1996 Jeep Jamboree which features this generation Wrangler being driven in its original form on the famous Rubicon Trail.

TBF, there's not a huge amount of (legal) offroading in the Nederlands, from what i've seen. And the geology is not exactly Moab (or Johnson valley, Mojave Road, Rubicon, etc). I ridden parts of the Nederlands TET, on my bike. It's flat, mostly farm tracks and not particularly challenging.

Enjoyed the video. I have a 94’ YJ 2.5L. My steering wheel was the same. It’s very easy to fix the steering wheel issue. It is a fun vehicle. I love the fact it’s such a simple vehicle. It does ride pretty rough due to the leaf springs. There are some suspension kits that enable it to ride. Mine was a little sloppy on the road, but after replacing some of the front steering components, I’m surprised how much better it drives now.

@@dutchcarguys Mines a 1990. I like to joke around about their unreliability but they really arent that bad. My family has owned a few jeeps and ive learned a few of the issues mainly with the 4.0. I converted mine from a 4.2 to a 4.0 out of a 97 TJ. The issue with the TJs is that a few of the years had very thin piston skirts that like to break in the back 2 cylinders. My brothers 2000 Cherokee cracked the head (another issue for that year)...Other than those issues most of the wrenching has been add ons...But I really do like my YJ and I doubt I will ever get rid of it.

Owner of a 1991 YJ here in the UK, that i shipped back from the US when we moved home. No steering issues for me, but my suspension was upgraded and improved. I'd suggest that the suspension on the one you drove is a 1/3 of a century old, completely stock, possibly never maintained, and it shows. I can imagine how the original rubber bushings on the various suspension parts have aged. (Badly). Replace those, with polyurethane bushings, and it should make a difference. If you like the YJ, try and get your hands on an FSJ. Cherokee or Grand Wagoneer from the late 70's/early 80's. They're quite popular in the Nederlands, I seem to recall. Last time we stayed in Hoofddorp, there were a couple parked and in good condition. Kind of like an early Range Rover.

The "Play" in your steering may be an Easy Fix. Most likely your steering gear box needs a small adjustment, loose the big Lock-Nut and turn the adjuster in the center about 1/4 turn (clockwise). Then tighten Big lock nut. It's Fixed. Video's on KZread on doing this. I drive a 1994 jeep 😊

The manual transmissions in these (ax-5,ax-15) are made by aisin and are basically the same transmissions used in Toyota supras at the time ( with some gear ratios and stuff changed). Probably why it feels nice.
