Jeep Wrangler Catches Fire & Burns - Overland Car Camping Trip Ends in Disaster

Jeep Wrangler Catches Fire & Burns - Overland Car Camping Trip Goes Wrong - Ends in Disaster
My most recentJeep Overland Car Camping trip ended in disaster when my Jeep Wrangler JKU Rubicon caught fire and burned to the ground. I was 30 miles from pavement in some of the most remote desert in Oregon. I still have no idea what caused the Jeep to catch on fire but it burned to the ground.
This video covers the whole trip. It began like any other car camping overland trip I set out on in the Jeep. The first part of the video covers the trails I was following and some of the cool historic sites I explored. The second part of the video covers pretty much the whole series of events when my Jeep caught on fire right through to then end when it was burned to a crisp.
Hope you all enjoy!

Yeah but that shouldn't have kept burning unless he had a fuel leak somewhere. That's the only thing I can think of that would keep the fire going after an extinguisher and 2 bottles of water, fuel was leaking against the hot exhaust and re-igniting itself. Most of the fuel lines under the car are metal, there might have been a part of it up by the engine that was rubber that wore out, or even chewed through by a small animal. Really good to have solid splash and skid shields with a little custom under-body work on off-road vehicles to keep water and critters out, even if you're not planning on putting a snorkel on it, it should be damn near air tight.

We trained with the tiny once and I realized then, that they are only there to make you feel good. I live in Oregon and during the winter and spring months we get a lot of rain which causes the prairie grass to grow quite thick but when summer comes around and we start getting 100+ degree days the grass dries out and the high desert turns into a tinderbox.

@@DaebakMonkey I can pretty much guarantee you it's not a grass fire. For one he would have had to have a large nest of grass big enough to get lodged in there to not fall out while he was driving or fall out when it caught fire, like the size of a melon. Go look a primitive fire nest how large they make them, it would need to be that size. It only takes a tiny small cut in the wiring to short the electrical wiring. If he had a spod switch system installed or any modifications that go through his fire wall, like 90% of Jeeps do, and wiring was damaged when the routed through the firewall which appears the fire is coming from, then it was wiring.

Casey I'm glad you're ok, sorry for the loss of the jeep Rubicon, I'm sure by the way you carry yourself you're veteran of the Arm forces. Your military training of working under stress and keeping focus of the situation at hand helped you get through it brother, I know as a veteran and others who served in military all know prior to any operation or mission always carry your basic survival and recovery items.

Amazed how calm you were. I'd be highly upset! I'll be sure to add a second extinguisher to my kit. Great video!

Agreed. I’m definitely adding a larger one to my next rig. But having said that I don’t think it would have helped in this situation. I don’t think there was much chance of getting that fire put out with any normal size fire extinguisher. Cheers!

@@CoyoteWorks01 Even if you were able to get the fire out it's still one of those situations where being unprepared could be deadly. It would've probably spared all of the gear, rooftop tent etc, but you wouldn't have been able to drive it out of there. Honestly, it's a total bummer and big inconvenience but being prepared like you are "padded" the fall is the best way to say it I guess.

The Australian outback is full of burnt out SUV's where people drive for hours through tall dry grass, often growing on the hump in the middle of the track, which gets stuck around the exhaust system . They then park and make camp and the hot exhaust starts the grass burning.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a burnt out 4wd out on the tracks but your synopsis is correct. Most of the burnt cars out here are just kids burnin down old or stolen cars

Outstanding composure under fire, no pun intended. Well equipped, impromptu plan of action well executed. Fantastic attitude, makes ALL the difference. It was guys like YOU that won WWII. Improvise, adapt, overcome. Tonight I raise a glass to your spirit, cheers!🍸

The fact that I expressed admiration for the man in no way, shape, or form implies that I would have, or have had, intimate contact with him. To imply otherwise is also disrespectful to both him and me. 3. My name is Kimberly. Not Kim, and certainly not Kimmy. I would appreciate it if you would address me with my correct name.

"level headed, quick thinking...prepared"...EXCEPT for the single tiny fire extinguisher on an off-road vehicle. Oh, and the end result (I think you're ignoring the most important part here). Yeah, he's the guy I want protecting me, and afterwards while he's looking at your dead charred body, he can say "well, I took photos and some video while she was burning to death. I tried.". SMH

This was the perfect case of insurance fraud, nothing more. It's a fact not opinion. He's getting investigated as we speak. By video taping it showed he had no concern in putting it out before it ignited. Funny how people's egos eventually get them in trouble.
