JEEP WRANGLER $30 DIY INTAKE MOD

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Threw this video together real quick because I figured it would help anyone trying to save some money. Doing this gets rid of the factory baffles and smooths out the intake track. Between recording this and uploading it I've driven about 75 miles city and highway and have gotten almost 2 mpg better on average but we all know the most important part of this is that it sounds cool.

Did this back in '17 on my JKU blog. Adds a growl, possible increase in noise with a K&N drop in, and retains factory intake and water ingestion safeguards. Removes the narrowing seen on the factory crossover, probably only matters at wide open throttle.

Chrysler/Jeep DOES NOT put anything on a vehicle unless it has some sort of intended engineering purpose and needs to be there (in their minds/research). In the case of those dangly bits,( Buffel Tubes/Chambers on the intake pipe), those are Helmholtz Tubes that reduce/ cancel out resonance/noise in the intake. In Chrysler/Jeeps opinion/research, grandmothers, little ole men and ladies, business people etc. that buy jeeps, don't like the intake growl that WE the people LOVE.. So, those chambers are added to cancel out that intake noise. Maybe the EPA had some noise reduction say in the matter. SAD! Who Knows?. YES, removing those chambers, will add back the intake sound that we like, remove a little intake restriction/turbulence and make the engine compartment look a little cleaner. Great job! IMHO, I cant say for sure that the chambers reduce intake air flow but, removal cant hurt for several positive reasons!

Just finished this. Was as easy as he makes it seem. Only different choice I made was I mounted the sensor in the silicone elbow not the pipe. Kept me from having to source a grommet. 1/2" paddle bit and it fit nicely. Can't speak to mileage yet, but no CEL so far. Thanks Cole.

This mod really sounds good if you have a snorkel with K&N drop in air filter. I had to work the 90 a little bit more due to the previous owner installed a throttle spacer plate. I made up some brackets for the coolant overflow hose. I chose to paint the pipe green as that is the accent color. I have one of the million Granite Crystal Metallic JKU's out there so things like D rings, inner fender liners inserts and springs have been painted bright green to be different.

Use an AFE dry flow air filter no oil on maf sensor. Also abs black sewer pipe smoothed and debured doesn heat soak like aluminum it absorbs engine heat and passes along to incoming air.

I put a K&N intake and an open exhaust and got no MPG improvement. But if you did great. And if you’re relying on what the dash gauge says that your fuel mileage is you’re kidding yourself. Ya still have to divide the fuel into the mileage to get it straight.
