A video on a few of the equipment hacks, mods and accessories that I use to make my overlanding trips easier, more comfortable and more efficient. This is Part 2, a follow-up to my “Minimalist Approach to Overlanding” video and includes hacks on how I manage my water, ideas on my kitchen and food storage set-up, and what I use to air up my tires, along with a couple of air compressor hacks that make it easier. Plus, I have also included a few accessories that I have discovered, that make my overlanding experience more pleasurable and efficient.

agree...that is slick. Can you do another video showing on how you put that together? I would like to get out of open hood/alligator clips jail myself...

Hi Terry, great stuff! It looks like you replaced the factory 4-pin (at least that's what my JK came with) with a 7-way, is that correct? I'm wondering if you had to run a new power cable, or if that is already part of the factory run and just not connected to the 4-pin. Thanks!

@@RoyScribner My 2016 JK had a 4-pin trailer connector which I converted to a 7-pin - e-trailer.com had a 4 to 7-pin conversion kit in 2016 - I ran a stranded 10 AWG THHN wire from the battery to the new 7-pin female plug and I also installed a 40 amp in-line fuse which was overkill for the compressor but I had a Scamp trailer with brakes and a 40 amp was required. My JLU came came with a 7-pin trailer tow package so all I had to do was remove the alligator clips and wire up the 7-pin male connector to the compressor leads. I have never had a problem with the Jeep factory tow package wiring, no voltage drop or overheating. Hope this helps.

Hi Terry, I like your channel. I spend a few months every year out in Utah with my jeep, been to a few of the places you've highlighted. I'm in Indiana so it's always great to see other midwesterners out exploring. I added a rooftop tent on my Jeep last year and it has been a game changer for me, so much easier to setup and breakdown everyday, as I rarely stay in the same location. Perhaps out paths with cross at some point, I'm sure we would have lots to compare with each other. I'm heading back out in September this year to explore some new locations, I've never visited before. Best to you!

Mark, Thanks, I will be in Utah and Colorado in September also, where are you located? I live in Mount Carmel, IL about 40 miles from Evansville. Maybe we can get together sometime.

Great ideas! Thanks for sharing. I tried the trim lok trick but it kept popping up even wedging it in really well with a trim tool. I’ve considered some kind of paint compatible sealant.

I checked on amazon and they don't list the trim lok 0.276-inch neoprene tubing anymore, I bought 50 feet 5 years ago so try another brand of neoprene tubing. I think 1/4' would work too, but make sure you are using neoprene hollow tubing. Mine stays in the gap and the only time I have a problem is when I am not cardfull using the wand at a car wash.

Love the air compressor mod. Has it caused any problems for amp draw as in over heating the hitch harness wires? I have a 4 pin connector (2015 JKU) and this looks brilliant!

I converted my 2016 JKU from a 4 pin to a 7-pin connector - e-trailer.com had a 4 to 7-pin conversion kit in 2016 - I also ran a stranded 10 AWG THHN wire from the battery to the female plug. I made the conversion from a 4 to 7-pin because I had a Scamp Trailer with brakes and needed the 7-pin setup for the trailer brakes; using the 7 pin male connector to hook up my compressor seemed like an easy way to eliminate the alligator clips but if I hadn't had the problem with the wind blowing the hood against the windshield support I probably wouldn't have thought of using the tow package solution. I don't know if the 4-pin wiring is adequate but running a heavier wire from the battery to the new female plug is easy to do. My JLU has the heavy duty tow package and I am using the factory wiring without any problems. terry
