    Mannnn I love KZread and content like this. I'm pretty handy but no mechanic and with the help of this video I did this in an hour. I used a metric socket set and a short piece of metal tubing to get some leverage on the bolts. Thats it. 2007 Liberty. Mine did not have a 16mm socket down low to drain the coolant. Instead I had a plastic winged bolt (I mean you can use your fingers) to drain. Also maybe this will help someone. Instead of marking my bolts, I just laid the new pump on the ground, front facing up, and as I took the screws out of the old one I placed them in the same spot on the new one. Obviously I oriented the old and new pumps to make sure the spots were the right spots. I also bought a new radiator cap for about $6. I've done all kinds of stuff with KZread.. Thanks for making me an all around handier (?) guy!

    A big Thank You. Your video gave me the confidence to do this job myself. I am sure I saved $150 or so. A new water pump was $40, Antifreeze was $14 and the brake cleaner was $2. Great deals at Advanced Auto with $20 off everything. Under $60 and I am happy.

    I have viewed several videos on changing a water pump on the Liberty. Yours was very helpful...especially with some of the details that others leave out such as numbering the bolts to keep track, etc. This is my first time doing this on any car, and your video has given me the courage to "get it done." Thanks.

    If constructive criticism can be heard and not ignored, even good things can be improved. For instance, using a 6mm wrench on water pump mounting bolts that have 13mm heads is not good information.

    Thank you so much. You're tutorial is clean and easy to understand and you give great tips! Best car maintenance tutorial by far! I'm not mechanically inclined. I was told that you should replace the fan clutch at the same time. Where is the fan clutch?

  • @StreetersGarage

    @StreetersGarage

    If you had one of the older Liberty's where the fan is physically attached to the water pump this is where the fan clutch would live. But more than likely you have the electric fans which are mounted directly to the radiator. So you wouldn;t need to worry about it. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!

She was not budging.Went to the dealer for a replacement so if I stripped it while I pulled the old one out I would still be good.Dealer doesn't make that part, not even a size... Lol classic!I will try to bleed the air out like you did, great video it is idiot proof. Thanks

    Just had to change the water pump again this past week. The radiator blew and then the gasket on the water pump started leaking. I've never had an issue with the system not being able to bleed itself. I've just filled the expansion and then drove it for about 5 miles and then just topped off. Glad it helped you out and thanks for watching!

    11:30 That red stuff on the bleeder screw isn't red loctite, it's some sort of rubbery RTV type compound that helps it get a good seal, and it just so happens to be red in color. They used the same stuff on the coolant temperature sensor. I guess your bleeder screw is just corroded in place.

    Watch your video, it made it a breeze, not to mechanical, but will try to do some of the easier things like changing the water pump. Took the shroud off, then unhooked some hoses, drained the fluid, and then took off and replaced the water pump. The pully was wobblily, it was clanking. Probably saved 400 dollars, down here in South Florida, they wanted around 500 dollars or more. Thanks Again.

    I'm not seeing in your video whether you ran the engine with the heat on for awhile and the radiator cap off, to purge the air at first? Or maybe thats not necessary Also I've seen videos where they first fill the radiator with distilled water and radiator super flush cleaner for about 10 minutes, drain that out, and then fill it again. Is this what you meant by you flushed earlier? The video wasn't a Jeep Liberty and I'm not sure if that will cause problems lol

  • @c.rutherford

    @c.rutherford

    I think I'm going to skip the flush cleaner and just drain and fill. Somehow I see it causing problems. In a car with 90K miles the solvents could end up causing leaks maybe. Seems likely

    Heat on and idle speed about 2000. Once you feel some heat come from the vents install the cap and take it for a 10 minute drive. Let it cool down and then top of the overflow to the min cool line and you’re done

    Bad tensioner causing the belt to slip on the water pump. Could be a bunch of things. Also check to make sure the cap on the expansion tank is good. If it’s leaking and not allowing pressure to come up. That could contribute as well.
