Jeep JL Rubicon vs Ram Power Wagon in the snow!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Snow!!! Offroading in white powder. Out playing in the snow with a JL Rubicon jeep on 40" Cooper STT Pros and a Power Wagon on 37" Cooper STT Pros.
We had a lot of fun wheeling and hiking with the dogs to frozen waterfalls at Hyalite Canyon just outside of Bozeman Montana. Hope you enjoy the video! Like and subscribe, thank you!

Used to live up North. Love blasting thru powder in a 4X. Great video you guys! Thanks for posting. Keep'em straight!
Enjoyed going along for the ride! I've done trails and fly fishing in that area many times, but never considered going in winter. That has changed... thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. Just got my power wagon in Sept. Can't wait to take it out and play like this. Took it elk hunting though. It handled the rocky terrain very nicely. Next, snow.
Two great rides out having a good time. Good video.
Spitzer nice👌 We didn't get our foot of snow like the news said here in Oklahoma last week. Was looking forward to that and my Cherokee Larado getting out. Pulling other's out of ditches or pushing out of parking lots. Enjoyed the ride. ❄Nice Power Wagon and Jeep👍❄

My 05 Cummins on 34s would of done just fine in that powder... Thanks for sharing.
Two great trucks and fluffy snow. Looks like fun. Unfortunately, here in North Dakota, when we get a lot of snow the wind usually blows and it becomes packed like wet concrete.

I own both. My Power Wagon makes my wife's Rubicon feel like a toy off road. The Power Wagon feels so much more solid and in control. Its easily 2 levels higher in its capabilities. I very few times have to ever use the lockers on my PW. It goes anywhere without drama.

Slow and steady wins the race offroad. I'll take the Jeep, but this is really two different purpose built vehicles. I have a Jeep JK and Ford F-350. I never tow with the Jeep and I hardly go offroad with the F-350. The 350 is a towing and work beast. Jeep is for smiles!!!!

Not sure to understand ... Did you have more snow-biting sipes than the standard of such tyre on the 37" Cooper STT Pros under the Power Wagon? If yes, how did you have them? Thanks. I'm also trying to understand how do the Cooper STT Pros perform on the packed snow on the road. I own a Jeep Wrangler JK.
The dog knew which one to piss on!
I hope Ram puts a larger gas tank on the HD'S for 2019, 33 gal and A 6.4 Hemi doesn't go far when your playing in 4LO and you wanna stay out all day.
I like roundabouts... when they're empty. When it's busy there's always someone who comes to a complete stop before entering the roundabout, messing up the whole operation. People in my state just can't seem to figure them out. Edit: Yep, just a little too much tire on that Jeep. Not the worst problem to have.

Ive been running duratracs 3 sets now on my GMC, and I have them on a plow truck as well. They have been a great tire in the snow. Im in Jersey so Im not running them off road much but 2 years ago we had a 30" snow. I had my guys out early but I didnt get out until a good 10 inches fell. I drove through powder drifts that were 30" in spots with little problem. Snow blowing up over the hood blocking my vision was the biggest issue. Just a 2007 2500 HD. Open rears. 265 75 15 duratracs. Cranked torsion bars and a Buckstop bumper. Downside is crap miles driving on road all the time. 35,000 tops. I have a bad one on my current set. Cant be properly balanced. The noise they make scares hell out of the deer so they run away instead of into your fender. Ive loved them in snow but might go with something else next set.

i have a JK and thinking about upgrading my truck to a power wagon. whats your no BS impression... those things are huge, how much do you find yourself on a trail that it doesn't fit on?
@Locker_Offroad
5 жыл бұрын
I make it fit any trail I want it to fit on. I am not one who likes dents or scratches on the truck so it really slows me down on the trail to make sure I don't mess it up. In Moab, there are some trails where the truck is too big to fit, that's when I take the jeep or canam. Depends on also where you live, how heavily treed it is. It helps having good spotters who care about your truck.

Are those E-load rated tires on the Power Wagon? If so, what’s your experience been with airing down that much?
@Locker_Offroad
5 жыл бұрын
Yes they are the E load. The lower you air them down the better they work.
Quick question? Is your power wagon stock? What size of tires are you running if its stock? What's the brand of that tire I really liked the tire performance in the snow...
@Locker_Offroad
3 жыл бұрын
its stock. I'm running Cooper Sttpros 37x13.5x17 on stock wheels
Did you have any axlewrap with the power wagon? I have a 2007 on 35" Open Country MT's and in heavy wet snow I get a bunch of axlewrap.
@Locker_Offroad
5 жыл бұрын
That's because of the leaf spring suspension, mine has four link with coils so all I get is bounce.
I'd get a small lift kit for both vehicles. What does the Power Wagon have over a regular Ran truck?
@Locker_Offroad
5 жыл бұрын
Lockers in both front and rear axles. Electronic disconnecting sway bar. 12,000 pound Warn Winch. Different front suspension for better articulation which equals in a 2 inch ride height. Manual four wheel drive shifter on the floor. Special Power Wagon wheels and 33 inch tires. This is what it comes with stock.
Dumb question. If you guys had front and rear lockers and were in deep snow with only one set of chains, do you put them on the front or rear tires?
@Locker_Offroad
5 жыл бұрын
Normally I would put them on the front, but because we are maxing out our tires to wheel wells, we don't have the clearance for the chains so would put them in the back.

@outdoor704 Could be wrong, but as far as I know siping doesn't really do anything in deep snow. Doesn't help, but it doesn't hurt either. Siping is more useful on wet roads etc., helps improve traction by channeling away some of the water.

Siping is for hard packed snow. So when you get stuck in soft deep snow and the tires start to pack the snow underneath, the siping will help you get traction.

Why'd I click this??? Makes me want to put STT Pro 40s on the JKU and 37s on the 04.5 Cummins!
I just traded my Rubicon for a Power Wagon. I'll probably go with 35's when my tires are toast. Does a 37 fit underneath and how's the gas milage. My Rubicon was 16.5 and so far I'm getting 14 with the stock tires. I may go with a 35 10.5 17 AT tire.

A long arm upgrade on that JL would help push that rear tire back and recenter it.
For overall versatility the pw takes the win.... for overall offroad succses and city driveing the jl wins.
Just curious what PSI you normally run the power wagon tires at and what you aired down to. Heavy truck so just wondering cause I own one. Own a rubicon too.👍😁

Or you could add Thuren 1.5" front coils and have no issues at all with those 37's and keep your turning radius.
Is it even necessary to air down in deep snow? I've driven through 20" of snow before and didn't need to air down.
