Jeep CJ7 Fuel and Brake Line Routing

In this video I walk you through the entire system of fuel and brake line routing. Where they mount, the size of the lines used for each, the tools to use, and the components that they connect to. This is for a 79 Jeep CJ7 with power brakes, but except for the proportioning valve and the caliper connector, this video should apply to all CJs 1976-1986 and maybe some YJs.
The fuel and brake lines are from The Stop Shop: www.thestopsho...
They also carry the stainless steel rock guards and sell the packages through amazon.

It’s nice to see this restoration going well . I’m just tearing into my ‘73 cj5 as it’s been sitting since I got in the spring of 2016 . I did some quick work then to get it running . New clutch after I got a replacement distributor and got it fired up . Now it’s time to get the body off and clean up the chassis . Going to be a long restoration and hoping the chassis is still strong but got my hopes high . Getting front and rear floor panels for it but the vendor is waiting for his restock so going to be awhile . It was last a snow plow Jeep so you know it’s flimflam to need work . Although my ‘80 cj5 is in fairly good shape , some minor floor repair by the roll bar mounts at the riser panel is needed and a little on the drivers toe board due to a hydraulic clutch master leak . Tore that out and put manual clutch linkage . More dependable . Both Jeep’s will need rust prevention to the bodies and chassis . Living in the northwest ( New York ) you’ve got to give a Jeep , or any vehicle a fighting chance . Got to say the ‘ 84 Is looking sharp . I think this restoration is your ‘79 ? Forgot the year but remember that it’s got the cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds . Some day I hope you get your hands on a cj5 of the ‘ 72 - ‘75 era but any one you get will be cool . Your doing great 👍

Awesome! 304 V8 main fuel line runs on drivers side as the mechanic fuel pump is on that side. I also had a larger fuel filter inline right before the rear axle on the drivers side. It had a rock guard in place underneath. Those are the only differences I can see for the V8 other than the lines that go from the fuel pump to the carb.

With the 600 Holly carb where does the other fuel line go to? ..you have a filter with 2 outlets. 3. The rollover valve is connected to the one exit port on the back of the tank right?

I didn't flare any of the nic/copper tubing. Simple hose clamps. There is very minimal pressure flowing through these lines so there isn't a big need of a heavy clamping of the lines.

5/16 for the 258/232. 3/8 for the 304 V8. The return line should be the same size as the feed line, but doesn’t have to be. The return line doesn’t and shouldn’t build up any pressure or have any real amount of fuel running through it.

Love your videos-thank you! I want to replace my 79 cj7 brake lines from master cylinder to proportioning valve since I added a brake booster-want them a little longer. Is there any concern with bleeding brakes after these lines are replaced? I hear it could cause an issue with proportioning valve (I believe it's original) and need a special tool to open that valve to bleed brakes (and that tool is no longer available)? Little worried I'm going to create a big problem on something that works properly now, just doesn't look good.

Sorry so long in my response. I ordered the Ares Brake tool kit. It's not the best out there, but it has held up well and I've done about 5 brake/fuel line jobs with it. I do recommend doing and learning how to do your own lines. It's a ton cheaper and you can customize it the way that works for you. It takes a couple times to get it right and remember not to over do it when you create the double flare. If you crush it out too much, you can't get a good seal. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VZX4KD2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The Stop Shop: www.amazon.com/stores/TheStopShop/page/57CCD1AC-AEB7-407E-9C81-6E56FFF9B530?ref_=ast_bln

That hose clamp style provides the most consistent pressure to the entire radius. Plus, they don’t over clamp the rubber causing premature cracking or crushing. There is very little pressure to the fuel system so you don’t need to over do it.

Thank you ! Very helpful information.I’m working on my 1975 Cj5.I know that my canister is totally not functional / return fuel /vent line back to tank is missing/ capped off by close to tank.this explains probably why My 232 is dying on me after it runs approximately 10/15 mins. It will always start back but continues to die every 20 seconds/ 1 minute after the 1st initial time it dies. I replaced gas tank 16 years ago and has been sitting entire time untill month half ago. I’ve got a carter YF carburetor,I’m confused when you mentioned your return vapor/fuel line exits from filter.does your carburetor got internal filter that exits from carburetor? When I changed my tank 16 years ago I’ve seemed to of forgotten my return fuel /vapor line and I plugged it off obviously not knowing or it was missing then also? While inspecting all my fuel connections from all my recent repairs,my arm leaned against the icm on passenger fender and it was very hot? Call Autozone next morning and they had new one onhand.I swapped icm out and it hasn’t died on me one time in last couple days. I read up on symptoms of bad icm and the symptoms were all over the spectrum. My 1975 Cj5 has over 93000 miles on it,pretty sure that icm was original?
