Jeep CJ Scrambler History Lesson

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to Coffee Walk Ep 118! Today we’re going to look at 8 Jeep CJ Scramblers. The Scrambler is considered by most in the industry to be the most collectible amongst all of the 76-86 Jeeps- I totally agree.
We are also often asked here at Collins Bros what the differences are between a Base Model Scrambler, a Scrambler Renegade (SR) and a Scrambler Laredo (SLR). In today’s episode we really get a good look at each model and their differences.
Interested in any used pull-off parts from the Scramblers featured in this episode? Shoot me an email to Social@CBJeep.com with what you’re looking for & your contact info and either me or one of my Jeep Specialists at CollinsBrosJeep.com will be in touch.
GO FAST, HAVE FUN & HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

CJ-6s are cool. Ronald Regan had one on his ranch. It's still there! I believe Dennis isn't interested in CJs before 75. They're hard to get parts. He's said this a lot.

Back in the late 80s, I was working for the USDA in Spokane Washington. Our office had a Scrambler. It was light blue with a white cab. I always wondered what happened to it.

Dennis, Every time I watch one of your videos I think back to 1986 when I was in charge of the plant quality audits for all AMC & Jeep plants. I had a lot of jobs in my 34 years with AMC/Jeep (Service, Sales, Marketing & Engineering) and lived in three locations (Washington, DC, Atlanta, GA and Detroit). In 1986 I had an office in each of the plants and in the old Toledo plant it was in the Mather Spring Building which was opposite from the final inspection line where the Jeeps came out of the main plant. In that building they also stored all the old build records which were on pink carbonless paper (the original was what was in the glovebox or sometimes taped under the LF seat). One day we were looking for the records of a specific vehicle from 5 years prior. Even though these records were stored in boxes by build date finding a specific vehicle was an impossible task. We never did find what we were looking for but it was an interesting experience and made me appreciate later computerization. I would imagine that those records were destroyed when they tore down the plant in the mid-2000s. I don't believe that those older records were ever computerized or converted into a suitable format. Perhaps you would know better as you seem to be able to quote production volumes.

I love watching your videos. This one really brings back memories. I was very fortunate to be able to own and drive a 1982 Scrambler for 10yrs +. My youngest son was born and brought home in that jeep. I've owned 5+ jeeps since and about to take delivery of a 2022 gladiator sport s this week. If it can live up to half the feelings that I had with the scrambler I'll be very happy.

These Scrambler videos are hard to watch. My 83 CJ8 Laredo was bobbed by the previous owner back in the late 90s and turned into a rock-crawler. It is mean off-road, but would be so much more valuable if it was stock.

I know a gent who really, really wanted a Scrambler in his youth but could not afford one back then. Years later he's a very wealthy man with a collection of cars and trucks that he commissioned to suit his tastes and sometimes his sense of humor. None of his vehicles left the factory equipped as they are today. In the late 1990s he decided he was going to have a Scrambler even if he had to have one built....So he did! He had a four door Jeep converted into what he calls a "Scrambler II" (picture the Jeep Gladiator). IF you didn't know better you might think he had managed to purchase a prototype Gladiator OR one of a Scrambler that never saw the light of day as a production vehicle. His "Scrambler II" has a five speed manual, is of course 4X4, is powered by a "robust" rebuilt AMC era 304cid engine that has been converted to fuel injection, and has both soft and hard tops. Of his "I just wanted one." vehicles the oddest may be his 4X4 Geo Metro even though the 2015 Mini he had converted into a pickup with four wheel drive that he often uses to haul feed around his farm for his cattle that looks the strangest in my humble opinion. All of his vehicles are road legal, registered and insured and he takes turns driving them with his wife.

At 9:43, Dennis introduces us to a California-emissions specific 1984 Scrambler Laredo color code 4C (Ice Blue) with nutmeg-colored interior. Pay very, very close attention to this particular Scrambler because it now represents what may be the finest example of any CJ-8 that exists the world over - no hyperbole/exaggeration. Approximately two weeks ago on an episode of Coffee Walk Dennis and his team unveiled this true masterpiece of restorative automotive craftsmanship to the masses. Simply jaw-dropping in the build quality and the numerous impossibly rare NOS parts that make up most of the build.

Love the Scramblers! How much would it approximately cost to have you restore the blue Scrambler that you are going to start restoring next week? My dad loved Jeeps and I fixed one up for him back in 2000. A 1985 Renegade. He learned to drive in a 50’s Willys. I have a soft spot for CJs! The dispenser he’s pouring the coffee out of really doesn’t give enough pressure behind it like you get pouring it out of a pot in order to mix thick syrups and sugars well enough where the last couple drinks you get nothing but sugar and syrup. Been there, done that before many times and it ain’t pleasant!! If the man wants to stir, then let the man stir, lol

Pretty sure they only do CJ-5 and newer, no flat fender jeeps. But I could be wrong...

I daily drove an 84 cj7 with a 1 barrel 2.5 hurricane. Great gas mileage but hated 31"s. Also had 3:55 gears. Couldn't kill it but not very much power

I just picked up a 1981 Jeep Scrambler that has been stored inside, but has not been started in 3 years. Do you have check list on how to get it running without fucking it up?
