yeah, many junk yards or places that buy scrap metal will sell them for low prices. I saw one labeled "bad transmission $200." a friend picked it up and it ran for years but it never left those woods.

I had some spare honda parts lying around for sale and this guy didnt have money so he gave me his 6.5 inch lifted 89 cherokee nothing wrong except desth wobble it had 33 mickeys and some baller tires on it so basically 200$ for a cherokee in good condition (the rear brake line was cut so i swaooed the drums for disc and fixed up the brake lines but removed the e brake because those are over rated)

@@mikeirl3565 why would 98 be the last year of a real jeep ? the XJ continued for a few more years. 2001 being the last. Then the 4.0 IL V6 continued for a few more years in the TJ. I could see saying 2006 would be one of the last years but dont know why 98... and thats if you dont consider the JK which is still just as capable with some modding.

I have a 1989 Comanche and it's incredible. The 4 liter straight six is the most reliable engine ever built! Three generations of my family and almost 300,000 miles later and it's still kicking.

@@headlesnorseman701 too many to list everything here but highlights would be dual airbags, sleeker design, improvements to certain drivetrain components, OBD2, ECT. Find the wiki on Jeep XJ and it will run through most of the info from beginning to end of the XJ run. I'd recommend finding an internet forum for XJs to learn more details. Certainly one of the best vehicle platforms ever.

@@Michael-fi5rd I thought that with my 98 2dr but after doing a 97+ swap on a 90 MJ, own a 95XJ and a 92MJ, I actually prefer the HO Jeeps more. They just seem to work better and are a little more rugged feeling. 97+ is still great though.

Here is why i am an xj fan: -Exact same drivetrain as the tj but for about half the cost. - extra doors for more passengers and more cargo space. -numerous were sold, parts be mad cheap. -loads of aftermarket offroad parts/kits are availible too, so you can build a crazy crawler, or mud monster, or just a simple overlanding build. Literally whatever you want. -hella reliable

Not only the Liberty crossover (XJ was the last regular Cherokee SUV, after that they're crossovers to this day) was part of the Cherokee lineage, but it was called Cherokee overseas (let some of our overseas audience confirm you that). The 3.7L V6 that those Liberty had was not as good (but less fuel thirsty) as the I6's, but the (VM Motori 2.8L I4) CRD TD was even worse (that TD was put into overseas JK Wranglers).

Great video but.... I feel you could have discussed the XJ CHEROKEE alot more. The grand cherokees are another group of a Cherokee

I was never around many Jeeps, but after I bought my 1996 United States Forest Service retired Jeep Cherokee.. I was in love, lol. Only had 100,000 miles, It's been such an excellent vehicle. Just the usual maintenance breakdowns, never anything serious. That 4.0 is a beast of an engine. I live on the Washington coast, and drive it in the sand somewhat often. I've never been even close to getting stuck. (I got a set of Toyo 30" on her, and her name is Pistachio)

I love my 95 xj. Nothing beats it. With the seats folded it has the perfect amount of cargo space. Has been to hell and back off road. Great vehicle.

Inline sixes are so inherently balanced they can last for ages.

230,000 miles and counting on my cherokee running strong. It truly was a triumph of automotive design. Absolutely spectacular vehicles. In 8 years it has literally never broken down on me. It needs repairs, but it has never has trouble driving itself to the parts store or the shop to get them done.

Wow. I had no idea most driving was done on the road. The more you know. My first car was a 96 ZJ with the inline 6. That car will always be my baby and watching this video made me even more proud to own one. You’re awesome man

The Cherokee was a "wow" car for me ever since I was prolly 5 or 6,cuz of my mum.She wanted the '86 model for yeeeears,and always thought of it as THE car for everything. I promised her Id buy it for her when I grow up.I just wish I could fulfil my promise to her,but she passed away when I was 16,a few years back. On my 4th jeep, and it’s my second XJ. You cannot deny how good of a car these things are. They just don’t die out, you can beat the hell out of a 4.0 and it will just keep running. Not to mention how good they are on the trail. Can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve seen a clapped XJ destroy a fully built wrangler on the trails.

I love watching you guys blow up. I remember when you guys started dope to watch good people succeed 👌

Failed to mention the 2015 Cherokees on how they were getting hacked all the time. Got mine brand new off the lot and we've been through 3 Transmissions already, seat heater caught the seat on fire twice in a week, stuck accelerator pedal, and the parking break turned on when I was driving 4 times. I blame Fiat

You guys completely left out the AMC Eagle wagon which was the true predecessor of the XJ. Remember, FSJ continued production after the XJ was created. The Cherokee only adopted it's name.

Picked up a '00 WJ for $600. 4.0 Inline 6 with the AT-5 5-speed transmission. 248k miles. A few sensors, an oil change, and new tires later, its in decent shape, and a great offroad and winter performer.

I just got a 95 4.0 Cherokee today. 108,000 original miles. Already in love.

The axles in the WJ were made lighter for on road fuel economy using aluminum casings, however were still reliable off road since the axle shafts are held in by bearing retainer plates. The bearings are pressed on the shafts themselves, unlike a weaker C clip axle that can easily let the shafts slide out of the casing if the C clip breaks. That was a performance feature borrowed from Borg Warner, since Dana ended up buying out Borg Warner. That's something to be on the lookout for, between a Dana 44 and Dana 44A axle, the 44A is made out of aluminum and doesn't have the hole in the hub to remove the bearing retainer plates.

The Cherokee is one of my favourite cars by Jeep, especially the older boxier ones! ☺️

I can't even finish this without pausing to let the out of this world editing settle in. This man sitting and talking is overwhelming my senses. The amount of time in editing must be crazy. Crazy over the top performance team! ( in a good way)

We have two rusty XJs and just can't part with them. I even sold off my TJ. It's hard to beat a small 5 door wagon for fishing, hunting, camping, and being able to drive through the woods off a road or trail. Places you just can't fit a full size truck or SUV.

Last time I was this early I couldn't think of a joke either

Die hard Squarebody fan. Bought first Jeep in 2021 (JK on 38s). Addiction hit 11. Just got my first XJ, looking for a ZJ, YJ, and LJ. I'm so freggin happy to finally have an XJ. As a Squarebody GM fan, I've always liked the looks and capability of these things. Can't wait to really get it built.

Got my 2000 Cherokee Classic 4.0L. I love it.

I got a 1987 Cherokee Laredo and with the 4 liter and 5 speed I love this thing it’s so bad ass and reliable at 236k miles it starts right up and goes no problem

Avrage Trinidadian, if you look closely most of the compact or smaller crossovers they will look like the one that was the MOST SUCCESSFUL of the bunch among themselves, so you can confuse between several competitors. Problem is FCA seemed to TRY TOO HARD with the Cherokee crossover, while the smaller Renegade has been far more successful on BEING DIFFERENT ENOUGH from the small bunch, even to the point that they're willing to go EVEN SMALLER to the new Suzuki Jimny (successor to our Samurai) footprint.

My mom had a 1st gen gran Cherokee with the v8 and it was straight piped and she still talks about it like it was heaven

Just got a 77 Jeep Cherokee as my first truck and I love it
