Jeep 3.7 engine rattle with misfire possible cause very neat video

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Good afternoon KZreadr’s today I’m going to A very special video something that we came across after we replace the timing chain with cheap Chinese tensioners. One of them went bad and are engine started rattling and Wood probably have broken pretty soon if we would not have gotten to it quickly. This vehicle is a 2010 Jeep liberty with a 3.7 this procedure is going to be the same for the 2008 2009 2011 2012 2013 and possibly 2014 Jeep liberty Jeep grand Cherokee with the 3.7 and the Dodge Durango Chrysler Aspen with the 3.7 . This will also be the same for the jeep grand Cherokee 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 and possibly 2013 Jeep grand Cherokee with the 4.7 and 3.7 driveline. These tensioners do not move up and down so if years is moving and you have some noise this is more than likely your problems especially if it’s a fasted noise and consistent through the throttle. So if you have a noise and a misfire code. This may be your solution sorry I didn’t make a video of us to dismantling this but I’m sure it’s pretty self-explanatory and maybe eventually I will make a video of us actually taking it apart because you can show me you’re more than welcome to ask me any questions if I can help I will.
You should watch the whole video .(sometimes I’m fun) So you can inform yourself with all the great information that I put in my videos and God bless. I hope the videos helpful for you!

    Thank you so much for posting this. I just purchased an '08 that I'm told has a "bearing-like" noise where they tried to R&R the water pump but didn't fix the noise. I suspect it very well could be this issue here. Very cool how you isolated this problem.

    My Liberty has 156000 miles on it and started making that same noise too. The jeep has been sitting for about 3 yrs, I do start it up and move it around once a week. I thought it was a rocker that was starting to come off. But lo and behold it wasnt. Ive taken apart most of the front of the engine, so next is to tackel the timing chain. You guys KNOW UR SHIT. Ques would a bad tensioner shoot a timing code as well, every once in a while. I be proud of you boys ty...MOPAR FOREVER...!

    Thanks for the video. Great information here. (I’ve never started an engine with the covers off, that was neat!) I Had this same problem as in the video, only for a little while tho... I’m not sure exactly what happened, may have jumped timing and destroyed 2 rockers & lifters and most likely the valves too. Is it junk ya think? I’ve had terrible luck... I have 2 Commanders right now, 1 with these destroyed valves and the other the motor is locked up completely. FML

    Well I very much appreciate the kind compliment and I appreciate you watching. Well the motors more than likely locked because the timing jumped and where the piston stopped at generally win the Pistons hit the valves it puts an indentation in the piston itself but generally does not crack it or heard it just depends on how fast it was going when it happened. It’s generally not the end of the world and it’s not just you that has problems with them everybody does they have designed an excellent motor that will only last so long.....

But the Jeep won’t barely go. It has 123k miles I paid $200 for it and it’s clean inside with no other issues. What should I look into first before buying a new engine? Hey guys thanks for the video liked and subscribed! Quick question for you my 04 liberty 3.7 was dumping coolant into the back passenger cylinder I assumed it was a head gasket and scrapped it. Bought another 04 liberty And have been driving it for six months and now it’s dumping coolant in the same cylinder. When I got this jeep it had the typical popped out rocker issue I replace the rocker and lifter and things have been great until now. Are head gaskets common to go or is there something else that may be an easier fix causing this.

  • @sharpcarco

    @sharpcarco

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well yes it is fairly common for these vehicles generally prior to 2005 or 2006 I don’t remember which I don’t see mini head gaskets blown after them years but then they start dropping valves into the engine so that’s not much better

    When I start my jeep liberty 2010 3.7 it rattles for 2-3 seconds, what could it be.or what should I try to fix it. Sounds like the top end has no oil. Or the lifter are dry.

  • @sharpcarco

    @sharpcarco

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well that noise is generally coming from the timing. That means that something inside there is possibly broken one of the tensioners is not staying extended like it supposed to when you start the vehicle up. So a timing job would be what it requires

  • @sharpcarco

    @sharpcarco

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes that’s what it supposed to do but if you look at them closely they have teeth and the teeth Wear down allowing the tensioner to collapse. This is helped significantly by replacing the tensioners with the tensioner‘s that do not have ports on the tips to allow oil to escape. In a recent video I show you this in-depth and explain to you why the earlier style tensioners that they never even put in this vehicle are better than the newer style ones. 2002 to 2004 tensioners

  • @sharpcarco

    @sharpcarco

    Жыл бұрын

    So I’m assuming the check engine light is on for the misfire. Try switching the coil from one spark plug to another spark plug and see if that changes your code. I know you said you replaced them. If that doesn’t do anything make sure you do a compression test because part of doing the head gaskets is doing the head cylinder machine work a lot of times the valve seats drop out of these. And it’s probably losing compression if that’s the case it’s very common that’s why when I rebuild these heads I steak the valve seats from the factory they’re cold set which means they can heat up in fallout

Most of the time I find the plastic guides break generally the gears and the chains themselves are just fine.
