    Ive said it before and ill say it again. Ezra and Kanan pushed a walker on top of Darth Vader. Everyone was fine with that, but when Cere a Jedi master throws some burning books on him and gets 1 lucky hit everyone loses their minds. Vader is not invincible. He may be our favorite character but every once in awhile its nice to see Vader humanized as sort of a reminder that he never became all powerful.

    I see his health bar as a hourglass. Vader got angrier and angrier as time passed while Cere was stalling him more and more to make time for her friends and people. Vader wasn't serious before 50% of the bar and being caught on fire, but Cere was already exhausted in the cutscene. It was a subtle storytelling that Vader wasn't even trying as much as Cere did.

    This would make sense if he didn't look like he was barely alive at the end of the fight. I think they just wanted to give Cere a proper respectful death, but in the scope of the larger universe it didn't make sense because she should not have been able to inflict that much damage on Vader.

  • @Cvstone1
    @Cvstone1 Жыл бұрын

    Two things about the Vader fight: 1) Vader himself noted she was stronger, but Cere corrected him saying she had no fear, which allowed her to fully embrace the light side and didn’t allow Vader to use fear against her. I also think he mailed it in until the bookshelf got dropped on him 2) You’ve read the Vader comics, Vader always won, but it wasn’t always pretty. Momin, Maul (legends), Cyclo, and others pushed Vader to the brink. Vader was always tactical and smart as much as he was powerful, so him killing Cere when she got overconfident makes sense in a way. Just my opinion though

  • @jakealcock5905

    @jakealcock5905

    Yes I agree, I think its quite a big misconception that Vader is immortal and untouchable. As you mentioned, in the Vader comics he really struggled against some of his opponents. Like that first Master he fought (forgot his name + I know Vader was just getting used to his suit but still) who he only beat because he played on his humanity and killed those civilians. And as you said when A jedi lets go of there fear they go god mode.

    More often than that, Vader is a tank. His whole deal is that he leaves himself very open to damage. Given how he literally just walks through all kinds of hazards more often than once, it's his greatest advantage. Tank through hazards, feel pain, pain fuels his rage, and the rage makes him stronger in the Dark Side. He NEEDS the pain. He's a masochist, no joke.

    I very much like the way this is going with Merrin and Cal. I feel this hasn't been addressed enough yet by many KZreadrs and fans in general, but for Cal it is a huge step abandoning the no-attachment rule. Which IMO is the single largest mistake of the while Jedi philosophy and ultimately their downfall. We see Cal falling in love with Merrin and embracing it, and now they are likely kind of parents to Kata, because that responsibility fell on them after they killed her dad. Which is an awkward and potentially interesting premise, but I digress.

    TBH I was a little disappointed that Bodes betrayel was EXACTLY how it seemed. Like he had a daughter he wanted to protect, and he betrayed Cal to take her to safety. I was hoping itd be a further twist like his daughter wasnt young anymore. She was actually an adult and serving in the ISB, Bode was just kinda delusional she was still his little girl. And he snuck into the ISB area to "save" her from the empire and take her with him, and she was like a full blown agent. (I started to think this at a part where Bode said she liked Tech, and later she had an exam. So i was like, "an ISB exam to graduate?!")

    I personally think that the fight with vader was really cool. It felt right for the story of these games that Cere would have an incredible last stand almost as a symbol of the Jedi and what they were once capable of, ripping gunships out of the sky, defending the hangar and only being killed by the most powerful thing the empire had. Vader is a trump card to neutralize an otherwise unstoppable force. Granted, I personally find the canon version of Vader much more interesting anyway. By this, I mean as he was shown in his standalone comic and in Kenobi. He's still immensely powerful but he's been neutered in his physical capability and in the force by his own choices, almost as if Palpatine planned for it. Obviously any opinion is valid, everyone is going to see these characters a little bit differently, but for me, this final fight as Cere, still unquestionably losing but putting a little twinge of fear into the monster that destroyed everything she loved felt incredible and gave her a wonderful send off.

    I think Ceres fight with Vader makes sense for the most part. Vader is known for toying with his food because he enjoys the fear he instills in people. He also said in fallen order that she would make an excellent inquisitor so perhaps he went into the fight with the plan to turn her to the dark side. Vader has also gotten his ass kicked on multiple occasions mostly from underestimating his opponent. For example, in the comics the dark woman surprised Vader by how strong she was. She almost killed him but then he just got pissed off and destroyed her.

    So happy I’m not alone here. The bromance with Anakin/Vader is strong with this one. You can’t have every Vader scene be, Vader walks into room with 1000 enemies, Vader force chokes them all, leaves room. Also Anakin had how many clone troopers blasting away at his side, along with surprise, along with most of the true masters gone from the temple, either dead or fighting in the wars. Meaning Anakin took out Old masters at best, Padawans and Younglings. Hardly an awesome or heroic victory.

    It was a story about family, loss, love, and hope. Survivor was a quintessential star wars story. This trilogy is about Cal's personal journey, not anything else. Not the galaxy, not Dagan, not Tannelor. It's about how two people who start in the same place of goodness respond to oppression and persecution in search of a better life. How attachment and fear can lead to anger, hate, and the dark side. This whole story can be boiled down to Cal's fight against his darkness when faced with who he could have been. Cere sacrificing herself so the others can escape was an incredible moment. I loved how it tied into the hidden path. How the rebellion wasn't built overnight and that the fight never stopped for some. Getting the rebellion to where it was in Ep 4 took a lot of sacrifice. It all gives those moments more weight. A really brilliant story that fits perfectly with what George established. Cal having a padawan is an awesome development. She's about the same age as Luke. Don't get your mind set into what you think star wars is and get upset when I doesn't meet that, just enjoy the ride.

    I feel like the Vader fight was actually sort of cool. I feel the reason that Cere fought so well is because she said that she has removed all the fear of Vader inside of her. Every time we see someone interact with Vader they always feel the fear and the cold when he approaches, but this time Cere wasn't afraid and was ready. I still think she probably shouldn't have done as much damage to Vader that she did, but it might have simply been a shock to Vader that someone wasn't afraid of him.

But what I’m saying is in game (in actual cutscenes not user generated gameplay) Cal has used the darkside in almost every combat scene he was in, and he literally sparred no one. He even did most of the killings by beheading (which is the least desirable way to kill for a Jedi). I don’t think Cal is going to fully embrace the darkness at this point. But the fact that he can use dark abilities and maneuvers, and for the most part remain on the “good” side is pretty interesting. I mean also though his story is far from over, so we don’t know what will happen. We just have to wait and see what they choose to do with Cal next.

    I loved the Cere part personally, going through and killing all the troopers effortlessly was amazing, felt godlike, and the Vader fight only took me 3 tries on GM. I was so excited getting caught up in my sting of parry's and dodges that when I finally got the cutscene I assumed I had won... just for the camera to pan out and reveal that she had missed whereas he had hit her dead center. it felt like watching revenge of the sith for the first or second time where you know the outcome but you get so caught up in the narrative that you forget the true underlying story of the rise and fall of Skywalker. That and I love the feel and effectiveness of the enraged slow, that room that you were in that you highlighted in this video I activated it then just pulled both triggers, pulled everyone in and went to town. It was so satisfying, for that moment at least... but when it came time to fight Bode on Grand Master I rarely got a chance to use it once, was really sad to go from fallen order where your slow is based on your force meter to this where its a charged super move that you get once per boss fight... annoying. needless to say I finished my run on stream as well taking around 32 hours while also going for every side quest I could leading up to the climactic part on Jedha, ultimately GOTY for me💜

Though, I take too much time exploring and re-exploring trying to get as much as I can before new abilities open new areas, I take lots of screenshots and enjoy lots of content so it's not beyond me to take at least an extra 3rd of the time on top to complete a solo rpg game like this. It's an adventure though and I think the gameplay is very good. Some aspects of the story.. well, different people are going to like or dislike them accordingly, not all of it I liked, but it's out of our hands anyway. I wouldn't say though that aspect meant I didn't enjoy the game, because I did, thoroughly. The main story arc is almost like an extra in a game like this for me, some of the time.

    I think in the fight against Vader, the first phase would have looked exactly the same as in the current game. But in the second phase he doesn't play with you anymore, you're not supposed to be able to win, because he throws everything at you and hits so hard that even if you parry the blow your stance is still broken. This is supposed to give you a kind of hopelessness as a player, and shows how inferior Cere is compared to Vader. Edit: By the way, this is just my thought how I would like the boss fight more. I'm aware that it doesn't happen that way.

Cal is really evolving into what we hoped Luke would become as a Jedi by realizing the mistakes of the past order and trusting in the force. The high republic stuff was really cool and the only reason Cal messed with the high republic stuff was to find a place to hide people from the empire. Yeah the fighting is a bit frustrating but it really makes you learn the patterns of your enemies and forces you to be perfect and I enjoy that because it’s so rewarding to beat a boss. I also think Cere is a lot more powerful than you guys think and she uses a lot of the dark side while fighting id imagine like Windu. It would’ve been cool to see her get a purple lightsaber and I hope cal creates a new lightsaber if they make a next game with a purple crystal. Vader is not almighty, Cere is a Jedi Master and has trained the last five years very intensely, healed her connection to the force and became very powerful. She absolutely destroyed the imperial army on Jedha. I think she might be on the powerlevel of Plo Koon or Qui-Gon at this point. So its absolutely realistic that she gives Vader a run for his money. Anakin was able to kill that many Jedi in Episode 3 because it was a huge surprise, he had back up in the 501st and he hasn’t been held back by his suit at that point. Plus the dark side was very powerful during order 66. Against experienced Jedi Vader always struggles but he never gets beaten. The coolest thing about Vader is not, that he never gets hit. Its that he can get hit very hard, but still steamrolls his enemys because him getting injured only makes him stronger. There was no way Cere would have won this fight. And Vader staggering a bit is just showing that hes not invincible but still unbeaten!

    I feel like the thing you’re missing with the Cere/Vader Fight is that Vader often plays with his Food. And likely did not respect Cere. And was surprised to find she had reconnected to the force, He thought he was fighting a broken Jedi, and found out otherwise. And once she did surprise him and injure him cause he then quickly closed the fight. Like the him stabbing her, and her missing, let’s not ignore the likelihood that Vader was over the fight, likely moved her blade. And ended the fight. But for the sake of the story and them wanting a third Game, Vader had to not be there when Cal came back, cause Cal would have 100000000% have gotten absolutely destroyed. He likely would have done better holding his own this time, but still would have died. I don’t think they under powered Vader I think he was caught off guard cause he was playing with his food as he is want to do.

    I’d Also Like to Highlight Cal’s Conversation with Bode after getting the Compass. Bode Pushed Back on Cal wanting it to be a Secret Planet for Just Them and Their Friends. The Decision to Betray them came when Cal opened it up for the Hidden Path. And Finally I think the Distraction of the High Republic and Gendaii was good, I was hoping for more Cameos, and Planets. But I am happy with what we got, minus I still want Prequel Era Robes like what’s the deal with that. But the High Republic Tanalorr Distraction was good, so good Infact that I think the story writing and story boarding did the job of allowing most to forget the Empire was a threat. So Bodes Betrayal, and Darth Vaders Arrival as well as the Imperial Fleet came as a Surprise to me. Even though I could see Bodes conflict.

One thing that I didnt like was that he felt like he was apart of Saw Gerrera's team at the start and then it was never mentioned again. I think the problem with the High Republic is getting into it. There are all these new characters, new locations. And I am a very visual person, so not being able to visualise what everything looks like makes it hard for me. I don't neccesarily get bored reading but I find it hard to keep reading, no motivation to do so. But the comics are a lot easier for me and its helping me learn characters that way so then I can visualise the books a bit more. I know what Avar Kriss and Loden Greatstorm look like for example. So if you want to get into the High Republic but struggle with the books maybe try the comics first.

As the player, you are being placed in the shoes of a character who has accepted and is fully aware they are about to die. The game did a very good job showcasing what a competent warrior can accomplish when fear is absent and they have given themselves completely to the force. It's also worth noting that there is a sense of accomplishment felt by a player when they get to fight one of the greatest villains to ever exist anywhere and do a noticeable amount of damage.

A very cognitive approach to a character who is conflicted on if he should let go of the jedi's view of attachment, and the consequences that would occur if they things were to go catastrophic, and seeing him struggle with his emotions after Bode's betrayal and unleashing his anger in front of Merrin in both in the front of the Imperial authority and the ending boss fight with Bode, just for her to be the guiding light on his side. Do you want to always run from him and for him to have no health bar? Now that's lame and boring. The reason why Kryptonite was made to weaken Superman was because people didn't care when he was literally untouchable. Vader got his ass hand to him by Kenobi twice, she a fully trained jedi Master would not be an instant win for Vader

  • @TakiGamesOfficial

    I enjoyed this a ton. Probably like an 8 for me. I’m a sucker for multiple combat stances and cosmetics. I liked how the loot wasn’t stat based and gating wasn’t too annoying. My favorite sequence was probably that whole teleporting thing with Merrin, that was ridiculously fun. Dismemberment was nice. Would’ve been cool if you can use 3 stances like the Jedi Knight games. I’m a solo developer for Unreal Engine and I don’t really understand how so many AAA games fail to utilize instant dodging, like it’s really not hard to implement. I think one of the things that makes it feel slow and not as responsive is that it’s seemingly fully mocapped and they’re going for realistic movements. If you animate using key frames instead, you can get a more crisp and fast movements and these movements being not as realistic is a price worth paying, it’s a videogame. It easily get away with stylized movements. It also doesn’t help that the enemy telegraphs in this game aren’t that great. But it’s nice it looks like there’s a time dilation mode in options to study enemy movements in slow mode? The Pilgrim chapter and some other areas were pretty annoying I had to go to KZread to figure out how to get through. While having more freedom in a bigger world was nice, I enjoy smaller linear level sequences more. Usually the pacing is much better and the action is more consistent. I also wasn’t feeling the story as much as the first game but I really enjoyed Cal more in this one, he was more witty and professional, kinda like Leon’s evolution from RE2 to RE4. Lots of people complained about bugs and performance. I played on a laptop with a rtx2070s without any issues. I played on 1920x1080 and capped fps at 60 everything else was on default.

    my thoughts on why Vader got so badly beaten was because this was like a few days or weeks after his battle with Obi Wan. Yes he seems healed but that slash on his head from Obi Wan, which stays there until his death in RoTJ, was causing him to lose focus in the force and weakened him but he still was stronger than Cere even with the injury. The injury helped Cere in the beginning, and then Vader began to become less confident and more focused on actually destroying Cere, which leads to his trickery at the end of the fight

Also the scene in the temple is different because anakin and the 501st did a shock and ahh campaign, so he caught most of those Jedi off guard.

    Vader ISN’T and shouldn’t be invincible. That would be boring as hell. It’s nice seeing him struggle from time to time and honestly this whole sequence with the Bode reveal was my favourite part of the game!!!

    I love your review and your streams Theory. You are by far my favorite content creator to watch and your passion for Star Wars really did show. I had a great time watching the stream while playing along at home up until I hit a game progress preventing glitch and now I can’t even finish the story let alone see Cere fight Vader sadly. I’m gonna be forced to restart my entire journey so I won’t play for a while unfortunately.

    Regarding the Imperial Jedha operation, I loved how Commander Denvick (An ISB Leader) was angry that Vader and the Inquisitorius interfered in his campaign against the Hidden Path because he sees Vader and the Inquisitorius as a bunch of savages. Regarding Vader, he managed to kill a huge number of Jedi masters in the Jedi Temple because that was before he was burned and later encased in his dark suit (Vader lost most of his powers after being burned). Because of his suit, Vader was limited in how he fights causing him to lose to Jedi masters like Obi-Wan and Cere Junda (both bested Vader because they stopped fearing him). Both were already powerful, but their fear of Vader limited their skills (In Fallen Order, Cere managed to use the Force powerfully to subdue Vader during their past confrontation in Fortress Inquisitorius's underwater hallway). Vader bested Ahsoka because he trained her and knows her moves very well and the rest weren't Jedi Masters as most were already killed by Vader before he was burned on Mustafar and most were killed during Order 66. Nevertheless, Vader should be powerful to defeat Cere, but I just think Vader toyed with Cere at first until he became even more serious when he was burning when a huge burning shelf fell on him. This kind of parallels how Vader quickly reacted to the AT-AT Walkers falling on him in Rebels, showing Vader taking his fights a bit more seriously even though he toyed with Ezra and Kanan at first. Despite this, I might be totally wrong in my opinions because I, myself, am confused about Vader's power scale and fighting methodology in events during events of the Rise of the Empire. Remember, Vader underestimated and got wrecked by opponents weaker than him such as Chelli Lona Aphra. Aphra humiliated, manipulated, and defeated Vader many times using her scientific and strategic skills. She is so skilled that Vader and Sidious know her and keeps track of her. Sidious even admitted wanting to keep Aphra around because she has the potential to be one of his valuable assets. Nimbleness is also important for a fighter because it allows them to jump, react, dodge, and counter. Vader is not nimble after being burned on Mustafar so he has to rely on his brain to think how he can beat his opponents (Darth Momin defeated Vader in mere seconds in a duel because Momin is nimble. Sidious won for the same exact reason when sparring with Vader. Nimbleness is important which Cere and Cal portrayed). Also, Cal joining the Hidden Path makes more sense because that will just make it confusing as to why he didn't help out the Rebel Alliance during its early stages. The reason is now that he is actually trying to give shelter to Force Sensitives, Force Followers, and Jedi supporters on Tanalorr.

    I have only read the Light of the Jedi and the Into the dark book for the high republic and the first book is mainly setting up all the characters in the begging which is why it is very hard read since it is super slow but once you get past all the high republic timeline set up and character intros the rest of the book is fun and seeing what the Jedi come up against is very cool.

    Playing on Jedi Grandmaster and you def right about having to learn certain enemies' move types before even coming close to beating them. Still on my first play-through. Playing on Jedi Master. Having a lot of fun. No real brick walls that stopped me for a while but plenty of challenges. I found Jedi Knight to be a good difficulty for me, it wasn't so easy it became boring or monotonous and it wasn't such a challenge that I got frustrated, although a few of the bosses were particularly difficult. I considered going with Jedi Master at first since I managed to beat the fallen order on Grandmaster with relative ease, but I'm definitely glad I decided against it, at least for my first playthrough. I'll probably go on Master when I try New Journey+ though. I started last night on Jedi Master. It feels pretty good. It's challenging but not super intense. Mostly, it's the groups of 3 or more enemies where you have to play smart. Fun game! Managed to beat the game on Grandmaster and am going through on new game plus on the same difficulty right now! Those DT droids are still my least favorite enemies to come up against, but it seems like they can be staggered if you're aggressive enough and that can open them up to an instant kill animation at about 50% hp. Jedi Master is the perfect balance between difficulty and immersion to me, The Grandmaster one is doable but just less fun, you feel way too fragile. Maybe if Cal's damage output was higher okay, but it feels like hitting enemies with a wooden stick. I just finished a run on Fallen Order on Jedi Master so I felt good about my first survivor play through being on Jedi Knight. It’s about what I expected. Not so challenging that I’m frustrated but not so easy I feel invincible. I found the drop-down from grandmaster to master was surprising, GM was hardcore af, the moment you get surrounded by more than four or five enemies you need to be absolutely perfect with your dodge and parry. Master was a breeze after trying and failing at that lol Played through on Jedi Knight mode just because it felt right since Cal's a knight. It was certainly a grind, but had some pretty satisfying kills. (that's only when the damned game wouldn't crash though) The difficulty is also shown on the HUD. In the bottom left where the d-pad buttons are shown, there is a dot in 1(2 if Grandmaster) of the 4 corners. The lowest starts top left and goes CW from there with Grandmaster having 2 dots top right and bottom left Whenever I’m playing on Grandmaster, I find it much easier to use a defensive stance such as the cross guard of double saber. It really helps prevent your block meter from running out too fast Playing on the higher difficulties I found the double blade stance to be so useful against ranged attacks I feel like for Grandmaster, dual wield and cross guard are gonna be the move. Dual wield for just running around killing enemies, cross guard for those situations where your block is being drained quickly I started with Grandmaster, and personally, I used some of the force powers but it was mostly about picking off your opponents from ranged to melee or from weakest to strongest with lightsaber attacks. I was using duel wield and blaster stances. So glad to hear I’m not alone in wanting to play on the Padawan difficulty. I was playing Jedi Knight, but it wasn’t fun. It was annoying, and I couldn’t seem to get the party right. Padawan lets me not get so involved in the fight and I can step back and learn. 100%, the double blade and cross guard stance were my go-to stances in Grand Master. Cross Guard takes a lot of learning, but once you have it down, it shreds.

    I really really like this game. I do think the Vader fight was shoe horned in a bit just so they have Vader but other than that I really enjoy the story and that action set piece at the desert temple was one of the best action sequences I’ve seen in a video game and whoever wrote it deserves a raise lol
