The Grand Organ was built in stages between 1922 and 1932. During a recital in 1924, Louis Vierne improvised what would become his Carillon de Westminster. The same year, Marcel Dupré gave the première of his own Symphonie-Passion for which the Pedal 32' Contre Bombarde was added. Demessieux herself gave her UK debut at Westminster Cathedral in 1947.

Love this! You play it so brilliantly!
I still remember when I first this played in a recital years ago at Westminster Abbey . The middle sections with the melody solo on the pedal Trumpet just moved me to tears. Your playing was faultless considering how technically challenging this work is . The final bars of the Te Deum with the bursts of the solo tuba just crowd this piece on this magnificent Willis organ admired by many eminent organists.
What a superb performance Simon of this ferociously demanding piece. Immaculate, and musical throughout.
Thank you for posting this, a stunning performance of a true masterpiece. A shame that it is not played more often. You certainly know how to get the best from the mighty Willis.

Thank you, Gary. It helps the recording that the Cathedral, despite being in a busy part of town, is actually pretty quiet at night.
Excellent rendition. Perfectly suited for the WC organ. Oh, & the playing was rather good too!👍👍

Thank you, Jay. The organ is so good for these big pieces. Reger is another composer that fits the instrument perfectly.
