J’aime beaucoup, beaux équilibres, belle cohérence. Interprétation expressive sans excès. Elle prend son temps, c’est ample. Très réussi.
Beautifully produced. The sound engineers did a phenomenal job. They really helped the piano capture the ambiance and that intimacy that gets lots, sometimes even in live performances. But they did a great job taking the edge off the piano and I was immediately transported to another world. And the playing - beyond gorgeous.

This is how you play with taste and deep understanding of the piece. It cannot be played better, my hats off to Janne.

Totally agree on this!
The Spruce was the first Sibelius I ever played, and it opened my eyes to the, to me, surprisingly voluminous amount of works for solo piano that Jean penned.

yes, i am a classical enjoyer, but before discovering and playing this piece by Sibelius, i didn't know he was such a great composer, and his other pieces are underrated as well

This is also my first Sibelius solo piano piece. Do you have other favorites among his works?

@@Natalielee1 I am partial to his Sonatina #2 from Opus 67. I'm all over the place with piano interest (Scriabin, Scarlatti, Ravel, etc. .. I think it was a Vladimir Horowitz CD (last concert) that turned me on to those Russian, Italian, and French composers. And for that great Finn Sibelius & his piano stuff, Glen Gould was the gateway.

Best we've seen on youtube yet🎉. Others are too rushed. We think this work is sweet and sorrowful because, when cosidering what the tree is used for, Sibelius witnessed the tragedy of killing a tree to give an instrument a voice. When properly expressed, its easier to justify it and yet... Bravo.

That's a mighty claim that will bring out the disdainers. I think what is definitely true is that he had his own distinctive voice & style, so much so that no less a person than Lenny Bernstein (who came late to Sibelius) said he thought Sibelius a composer "from another planet". And sniffy Karajan returned again and again to the 4th, Tapiola and 7th, trying to find a definitive performance.

Hopefully it's coming in the future :)
I've heard this curious bass line version before (from the beginning of "the storm": e-a-f#-b- g instead of a - f# instead of g - e and so on) at 1:33, which anyhow in my opinion is erroneous.
