I was introduced to Ponty when he played with Zappa in early 70's. Then saw him in concert with Jan Hammer in 76. My rock & roll roots have morphed into an eclectic tatse of many genres. I'm thankful to Ponty for helping steer and broaden my musical tatses starting in my early 20's. Now in my early 60's, still widening my musical horizens and having a good time doing so.

Cool... I started back in the 70s when Miles moved into electric. There was a whole lot going on there that I wasn't aware of and as you know there was Jean Luc Ponty, along with Weather Report, Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra (where he often contributed). You might want to look into the new wave of electronics with groups like Phaeleh (Fallen Light), Klimeks (Etenally Yours), Gidge (Huldra_Other version), and Pensees (Murky) are a few of my favorites. Give it a go - you never know...

My dad took my sister to see JLP at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver BC, 1992. They had front row seats. And my sister, now 37, says she had a bad childhood!!! I only get to listen to the records with my dad while he reminisces about the blue violin and how well it was played. Hahaha, ask my sister about the Cocteau Twins concert she saw when she was a kid.

I was staying in Plainfield, New Jersey in the summer of 1978. I had a temporary green card. A housemate had a Jean Luc Ponty album of which my favourite track was "Mirage". I played it one last time, slipped my ruck sack on my back and hitch-hiked up route 22 to Vancouver, down to Los Angeles and on to El Paso, and back to New York via Memphis. It took 3 weeks of pretty constant movement. I have never been back to North America since. The Mirage is remembered.

I saw the Cosmic Messenger tour at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, October 10, 1978. That show became Jean Luc Ponty live, released in 1979! Ongoing greatness!

I have collected vinyl since middle school. I was introduced to Jean Luc Ponty by a friend's brother who had a huge jazz vinyl collection. I was only ten years old when I purchased my first vinyl album ever, Fables by Jean Luc Ponty after listening to all of his earlier albums. Now I have them all and have been a huge fan since then. There is nothing like seeing him and his band live, though.

I discovered JLP in high school during the 80s, mainly because I discovered Allan Holdsworth. I would come home and out Enigmatic Ocean on and be lost for hours, playing it over and over. I would cop lines from JL and AH both. I learned to play, to venture beyond rock and blues from this album. 50 now, and I'm an active composer and musician. I owe a great deal of where my muses led me to JLP and this album.
