Cars: Porsche 911 996 Turbo, Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec II, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII RS EVO, Honda Acura NSX S-Zero, Ferrari F360 Modena, Chevrolet Corvette Z51
Drivers: Keiichi Tsuchiya (Dori Dori, The Drift King), Nakaya, Hara, Kinoshita, Hattori, Kurosawa (Gan San)

@Hi I know they all look the same but that Porsche is a 996 turbo from 2000, the same year as the R34 GTR…
Kurosawa vs Tsuchiya battles are so much fun to watch. Both drivers are so competitive that they give 200% to win with their cars.

Love these old Tsuchiya vs. Gan San battles. Both so determined to win every single race they are in, even if it is just for entertainment purposes. Unfortunately Dori Dori developed some kind of arrogance in later episodes of Best Motoring when Kurosawa was gone, not sure whether for image purposes or personal pride...
I hoped to see the NSX Type R in this race. Oh well, this race was still very fun to watch
BMI battles are life. I've never watched more entertaining racing, multi-billion dollar sanctioning bodies be damned. A couple notes... 1) I wish the Corvette would've been more competitive. Being a Z51 and 350hp, I figured it would've been. Maybe it had less aggressive tires? 2) "But the JDM cars are restricted to only 280 hp." LOL c'mon guys, can't belive that gentleman's agreement B.S. XD They come out of that last long right-hander at about 100 mph to start the front straightaway where it's all about sheer, raw power, not tires or weight or handling... and the Evo and GT-R supposedly making 140hp less hang right behind the Porsche. Probably more like 350+ HP

GT-R is making around 320 bhp, while the Evo is around 300. So there's still big difference.

It’s amazing seeing what these cars were capable of stock for stock.
Only Evo has small engine among other but manage to get 3rd place, not bad
Evo driver says “I’ll do smooth shifting“, proceeeds to absolutely slam gears 😂😂

Wow the V-spec really calls into question the true horsepower rating of that car - it kept pace w the Porsche very very well so I got to estimate that the Skyline has to be putting out at least 350-360ps at the crank to stay close to the 911...interesting race to watch!

Actually the Normal R34s including all gtrs Had 280-290bhp on 0.7bar of boost with Actuator blocked with Restrictions Only the Nur II had between 330-345bhp , since the boost pressure wasnt limited like other models it was 1.2bar, An with the Actuator restriction taken out normal models were up to 1.0 bar Giving it around 315-320bhp, :) ive owned R32 91 / 94 an R33 97 all of which came full factory untouched with the actuators blocked which Nissan had to do but they advised owners they could take them out for race purposes :)

Only resin evo came 3rd it’s stock unlike the gtr had custom splitters and more way bigger advantage

Evo 7 stock isn't that quick. Had this been an Evo IX RS the GT-R and that version of the Porsche wouldn't stand a chance.
NIce that they chose the base model Corvette. Where was the Z06?

It is the 911 power advantage. What if the R34 and the Evo VII has the same power as the 911? This what makes the JDM too scary. Anyways congratulations to the 911 the cornering is surprisingly impressive.

They tested a Nismo 500bhp version of R34 in this same circuit. The laptime is around 1"37'00

Looks like the qualifying times might were held in different conditions, since rain can be quite unpredictable and the need to have an empty circuit at different times probably made a difference. That is proven by the fact that the Porsche eas quicker than the bmw but managed to do worse in qualifying.

The z51 should have been the zo6 instead
Tyres back then were so shit in comparison. The old PZero was at the level of modern budget tyres like Nexen or Austone. The current PZero is comparable to semi-slick tyres back in the 90s and it's an affordable great dry road tyre on RWD cars below 1800kg.
Weird that they chose the Z51 instead of the Z06. Haven’t watched the race yet so I don’t know how well it does but just strange, especially since they chose the 911 Turbo Porsch. The Carrera 4 would have been the more in line choice. Edit: ya, the corvette was a pretty big disappointment. I’ve seen these guys run both the C5 and C6 and they never do well even though the cars themselves are quite proven in international racing.

Japanese say "crossed" when actually meaning to say closed, i.e. the gearing is close

I don't believe the Modena was explored anywhere near its potential. I doubt the tires and the driving too, how can you explain that it didn't even dominate the straights. It should be the fastest of the bunch.

The best stock version of NSX, GT-R and Evo versus base or luxury versions of Modena, Vette and 911... Put GT3, Challenge Stradale and Z06 it would be another story... And people like to tune JDM is because cheaper, and had a lot of custom parts. For example, Vette is cheaper but but you don't see so many customizations (most of him is drag race car).
every time they try to beat the Germans but never catching up......soooo they start to play unfair🤣🤣🤣🤣 they let the porsche do laps befor the race starts...

It's not 350 HorsepowerS, it's 350 Horsepower. Also it's Not 4wd, it's All Wheel Drive.....
American cars don't do well on corners.
