JD 6R185 on demo raking NZ

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'm lucky to be working for a small outfit, if I was working for John Austin's or Bradfields I'd never been let drive the demo tractor. There's only 3 people where I work and neither of the other two weren't keen on driving the demo tractor so that just left me. The boss drove it the first day but didn't take to the joystick well at all and the other guy just likes to keep mowing all the time in the 155R and had no interest. So that just left me and I really liked it in fairness.
I always said I wasn't really a John Deere fan but this 185 I would drive that day in day out at any job happily. The best way to describe it is a Fendt in John Deere colours. So I suppose I'm a Fendt fan then...just John Deere finally made a tractor as good...

Seems like just a refinement of the last R Series from what I’ve seen of them, did use the command pro for a little bit on a 6155r and just wasn’t a fan and just didn’t gel with it in the slightest but maybe it takes time but I’d rather use normal autopower, nice to see the uploads back

Thanks Betherz. These are the only two I have to upload at the minute though. I think I might get another video making hay and then one on maize for this year and that will be it in New Zealand again. Yeah this tractor is basically just a suped up 155R with new controls and dash from what I can see. Whatever they've done with the gearbox though I don't know, autopowr in the 175R and 215R is just a jumpy mess of a thing. Now with this joystick they've made it lovely and smooth how an IVT should be :) and having the spools on the joystick is so much nicer than those stiff little switches. The boss drove this tractor the first day and jumped out and said he didn't like the joystick so I didn't have much hope for it but once I got to the field and spent five minutes setting up the buttons the way I wanted them it was golden after that. And holding the button on the back of the joystick and dabbing it left for direction changes is much nicer than that clicky clacky shuttle john deere has had for years. I always hated the shuttle on them. Massey Ferguson has the left hand shuttle just perfect. They don't lift and click into direction, you lift, push and then it drops into direction. And then you have gears on the shuttle. Great. Absolutely brilliant. But that's about it really...a lot of people like yourself don't seem to like the joystick for some reason and then others love it. Each to their own I suppose....

@@WayneMescalthe old 20 series where the real ivts. Smooth as and you could work those things hard on the hills. Stall the engine right down to 1000rpm to keep your traction. The newer R series ones where alot softer and when you put them under load like that theyd error code or default to netrual. The slider ivt is actually damn good and simple once you figure it out. Alot less complicated than the command pro., but yes no spools which is a bugger. I wish they did the slider with the command pro joystick somehow. Would be the ultimate.

I'm on an ivt 7530 today, I think i have it figured out, I've driven them enough now but I think the joystick is still the better option. Personal preference I suppose. Video of this tractor soon, I have one taken, just have to find time to put it up. Thanks for the comment, the comments are the best part about doing the youtube I think.

@@WayneMescal the auto modes on them are OK on the road or on flatter ground. If you in thr steep stuff, manual or custom mode is the only way as no computer can drive like a human in those conditions.... Well not yet at least 🤣

Nice tractor, the command pro is similar to a fendt but I do prefer the old vario stick, if it had the option of stopping dead while In gear, like a hydrostatic, I preferred the old vario stick, cause I could just use the hand throttle while on the road and it seemed a lot nicer than trying to drive a command pro in stick mode, and then I would set up spool valves on the joystick for everything. But still all very nice, a lot nicer than a case or anything 😂

Never drove an autocommand/case cvx so can't comment on those. Would love to try an older steyr type cvx myself. I don't like that old vario slider stick thing at all. Disaster if you ask me, and what in the holy jesus were they thinking when they decided to make it creep when you select forward or reverse. And the jumpiness of the whole thing. Disaster of a gearbox through and through. Easier to drive it on the pedal on the road. And then switch over to the joystick when you come to a gateway or something. They made the automatic transition from using the pedal to the joystick completely seamless, it's brilliant. Not sure if a fendt works like that, I can't remember what the fendt was like to drive now, it's been a while since I was in one. The spools on the joystick is handy as well but again, why haven't they done it years ago like everyone else 🤷‍♂️

I won't be back until the start of April probably. It was the 2nd of April last year when i got home. The plan is to fix that Same at home in the shed and then go make some more bales with my own kit. Slave to the grass as the fella says. It never stops 😂

@@WayneMescal what needs doing to the same, they are a v scarce tractor now, never were popular in their day, even though we had a same dealer near us , though they look a sound tractor, the ould tin work quality on them older ones was questionable, but then a lot of other makes were the exact same them times, what work will she do when she’s back going

I've ripped all the wiring out of it because it was 100% going to go on fire and only half the things worked. Easier to start over from fresh I thought rather than try to repair sections of old wiring loom. It's split at the minute, the clutch was slipping mad although it was a new clutch. Oil seals on transmission input shaft gone, making clutch slip. Noticed the creeper box just behind the clutch had worn shaft and coupler so that needs new parts put into it as well. The plan was to have a big tractor to be able to pull a 2000/2500 slurry tanker but I haven't got one yet. It should manage all the mowing next summer and pulling the small low loader we have drawing bales. I want to convert baler to 1000 speed box so I can use the bigger tractor to bale hilly ground too but I don't think I'll get that far. The clutch is too heavy on it for baling I think so it would just be a back up baling tractor. Wicked heavy clutch on it.

Yea they are more of a lugging tractor than stop start work, do you do the mechanicing yourself, what power is she ment to be, she would be more at home on the mower than a baler anytime, what mower have ye and are you doing much contracting or just yier own bales, what other tractors have ya along with the Same and 7810, even for doing a lads own bales it’s great to be able to go at it yourself,

@@cteehan They're supposed to be 165 at the engine so maybe 150 at the pto I'd imagine. They have a screw just like a Ford though so you can easily make them put out a little more if you wanted. This Same spent a lot of it's life up in Monaghan powering a pottinger mex 6, it's good for constant pto power jobs like that I'd say. We've a 4328 kverneland mower there which you can see in the second cut video this year. It's a drone video with music on it. My own two tractors are the Ford and the Same and then my dad has a 6441 and after the Renault 566 burned down he bought a Claas 557. A model down but the next range up if you know what I mean. There's videos of the Renault and the Zetor dotted through the channel here and there. No videos of the Claas yet. I'm trying to get going baling contracting, that's why the gear we've bought is so fresh. But things are quiet starting off, all the farmers around here already have their contractors they get every year, it's mostly our own we do and then a few friends "giving me a turn" kind of thing. But I'm happy to plug away at it so that's the main thing I suppose.
