I bought both so I can test them out in my room and the Charge 4 was honestly quite disappointing. I find the sound to be muffled, like it’s stuck inside and shy to come out. I like the way the Flip 5 just screams. The vocals and instruments are nice and crisp, Charge 4’s bass and quality of the sound is indeed more premium, but more of the sound stays inside the speaker than actually hits your ear. Not the best way to put it I know, but that’s my 2 cents haha ✌🏼

Totally agree, I get the flip 5 because of the weird sound from charge 4. If I want louder i can use my jbl xtreme, flip5 is perfect for casual listening. Quality is better than loudness because we dont need that loudness for casual listening right. I am tired to use jbl xtreme for casual listening. It just too powerful.

I sit them the same distance from the mic and set them at the same volume level, which is generally 80%.

They are perfect speakers but if you want more bass choose CHARGE4 but if you want more cleaner sounds choose FLIP 5. But for me I like more bass so I would choose CHARGE4 ☺️

great video and great comments...i got the charge 4 but my bf wanted it so i gave it to him because i didn't realize how heavy the charge 4 was... i wanted something smaller so i am looking at the flip...and the comments have sealed the deal...also, i wanted to know the wattage on both and this is the only place i could find that info. it is a shame they don't make all of their speakers able to connect...it is just dumb on their part.

I feel like a nice upgrade for an upcoming Charge 5 would be to keep the same obround woofer driver but add a tweeter in the space left free behind the grille. That would also mean the woofer can be driven harder(and lower) without compromising highs.

Most of the time, the reviewer’s words after the sound test don’t correlate with what we hear in the video. But in this review, they do. The Flip 5 clearly sounds more balanced while the Charge 4 emphasizes the lower end, sacrificing the higher frequencies. Interestingly enough, most other reviewers say the Charge 4 sounds better, and it should, given the $50 price jump/it’s size. I’m just astonished at how well the Flip 4 holds up. My only problem is that I like bass music a lot. So it’s going to be hard for me to decide. I haven’t ever had a proper Bluetooth speaker before, so it’s virtually impossible to know what I would like best without buying them both. 🤔

I think that the flip 5 has some pretty good bass. It also has cleaner audio. I am thinking of buying a jbl flip 5 over the charge 3 because in my opinion, it sounds really good. Remember, there are lots of other brands out there. Sony, bose Ultimate ears, etc.

Flip 5 has a more balanced and lively sound. Charge 4 s sound sounds like playing through a curtain

I was looking SERIOUSLY at the charge 4 (for the added power bank, and longer play time.. thought it’d have more bass too) but the crispness of the flip 5 has my vote now (and I’ll save some money too!)... JBL kicks ass!

Well the Charge4 definitely sounds richer but since needs of these are generally 1 to 2 listeners I settled for JBL Flip5 because it was over $80 cheaper and meets my needs my son has taken my Charge 3 hence I need a replacement..

I saw the flip 5 for $119 while the charge 4 is $130 so there’s no reason for me to get the flip 5 but I wish the charge 4 was smaller. I can finally charge my phone on the go plus the charge 4 has the aux input which is important if you want to audio split sounds.

Which one is best for bass ???

I think that the Flip 5 is more balanced, accurate, and realistic. The Charge 4 has more oomph; but it sounds muffled and less realistic.

That's a fair summary.

Flip is too sharp in sound and may "irritate" ear from long duration

I don't think any of these videos using microphones accurately convey what they sound like and how they sound different in person. I compared these two in person twice, in different stores. The first time I thought the Charge4 sounded better, but not probably enough for the size difference, I was very impressed with how close the Flip5 sounded to the much bigger Charge4. The second time with different units the Charge4 clearly sounded better at all volumes, not a ton better, but more depth and more/tighter bass especially at mid to high volumes. I bought the Charge4, also because it has an aux port but I would have been OK with the Flip5.

In my opinion the flip 5 is better in all ways: sound, price, weight and size great new speaker! I would choose the flip 5

If size isn't a factor, I'd go with the Charge 4. If you need the smaller form factor, the Flip 5 is a great option.

The Flip 5 is stereo, as it has two speakers, Charge4 has only one speaker, has bass but loses clarity for not being stereo, unfortunately JBL did it like that, it should be the other way around.😕

I ised to have JBL Charge 3, but I lost it I am now using Charge 4 and Flip 5, sadly, the two can't be connected 😢 But I like C4 when it comes to battery and loudiness. But Flip 5 is very clear like from C3

Max Dalton you should agree too that at moderate or low levels the flip 5 sounds as covered as the charge 4. One can hear that on the other comparison you made earlier between both speakers.

I bought both and have been listening to them around the house for the past week. Short version: I think the Flip 5 sounds better for my listening uses. I am keeping that and returning the Charge 4. Long version: I listen at low to moderate volumes while I'm doing stuff around the house in rooms I don't already have a stereo set up. A mixture of podcasts and music. At these volumes, the Flip 5 sounds better to me. Fuller base, better highs, just an all-around more pleasant and balance sound to me. I do give higher marks to the Charge 4 for mid-range definition. It is slightly better for listening to podcasts and news, and when listening to music it is a tad easier to pick out the different instruments. But it is not enough to overcome the thinness of the sound when listening to music. While this difference in definition would be a big deal for me in critical listening environments, the reality of where I am listening to these devices makes it less critical. Ideally it would be great to have the balance of the Flip 5 with the mid-range definition of the Charge 4, but I guess that is when you need to spend a bit more money. I have not listened to these at high volumes very much, but my initial impressions is that the Charge 4 holds it together better than the Flip 5. I can't say that the Charge 4 sounds particularly great, its just does does not deteriorate like Flip 5. TBH, if I want to listen to music at louder volumes, I am going to want something else entirely than either one of these.
