I just updated mine a while ago and the difference I heard is that the sub bass is boosted a little bit as I can feel the sub bass more, bass is also cut a little bit and also the mids. For this update, I think it sounds clearer than the last time. Edit: Looks like there's more delay to audio on this new update when watching videos.

Thank you so much. Good thing I did some homework thanks to this video. Didn't use it much as the sound was pretty boomy. Checked it and it was on v3.9 and it sounds great on v7.3. Almost flashed it to v7.6

I just had this a week ago, and very much satisfied with its sound.. I did watch a couple of reviews here in KZread and came across this "low frequency mode" (lfm) which could be activated by pressing bluetooth and vol down buttons together for 10 seconds.. When I did it to my Charge 3 I noticed a significant reduction on bass, could it be that lfm is on all this time on my unit? On some videos they say that using lfm is harmful to the speaker but it's on by default on my unit.. I did the reset, but the configuration is still the same.. Can anyone explain this to me pretty please!

its not really a low frequency mode but a service mode that removes the bass limiter. The reason for the limiter is to prevent damage to the drivers from distortion. lfm is a bad idea if you dont want to risk your speaker. it is not on by default but the charge 3 lacks deep bass so it wont make the same difference as on other speakers.

The new update finally fixed the issues with the bluetooth connection to my laptop. I was having audio issues where the audio was not playing yet my laptop says it is already playing music. Now its fixed.

Your reviews are much appreciated. I use the party mode button with a single charge 3 for more clarity. Do you ever use a cable? Also did you know that party mode works while using a cable? (paired with my wife's charge 3) Before I consider updating, I will listen more with a cable to test for clarity. (I also use a cable to even out synch delay while watching videos.)

i dont use a cable with the charge 3 or most bluetooth speakers outside of the minirigs. no never tried party mode with cable either. Dont you find a drop in sound quality with cable?

@@alanrossreviews I was a little sad that this speaker couldn't use a higher quality codec, like aptx which my phones have. but it is what it is (shrugs). Bluetooth codecs change the sound with limiting freq range and adding compression. Aptx is a little better also with less delay. The cable bypasses all that. But there is a volume drop, but of course that depends on what your earphone jack sends. I think this speaker adds eq changes based on volume (a loudness curve) using bluetooth but it doesn't with a cable. Most of the time I listen to podcasts (using pocketcasts) and, on my oneplus 6 the video and audio synch drifts a little. Some reviewers measure that and mention which combinations of speakers to os systems are better. This speaker was knocked by some when using it with android for video. If it annoys me (especially when showing off a video where watching the drummer play is important, I'll use a cable.) I just checked again.both android and ipad Not sure if the delay on android vs ios is different: here is what I just tested again for both android and ipad: With a cable no delay, with cable party mode on-slight delay added without cable then the bluetooth adds even more delay add party mode to that and the delay gets even larger (the worst case for delay). And also about aptx, the delay for when pressing start stop is MUCH less (when using my other aptx device). the delay on this speaker with its basic non aptx codec is about 1.5 seconds from when the button on the speaker is pressed until the ipad or android phone reacts. aptx delay is a fraction of a second. So me mentioning aptx is sort of the same new argument for 5g. The new 5g will give less latency not just faster speeds. Aptx makes hitting start stop much more enjoyable and USABLE. When I teach a lesson I can't wait 1.5 seconds when I am trying to show off a small part of music to a student so I must use the screen controls rather than the control on this speaker. Also when I am trying to learn a part on a song, the delay kills usability, so I only use the speaker to make the sound larger and find an on screen control to use. Sorry for the long winded post! (But you are in the similar nerd ballpark as me)

They fixed the lateny bug (or was it on purpose?) introduced with firmware 7.3.0 that affected the AUX input. The added delay was noticeable especially while watching videos. You can check it yourself by downgrading to 7.3.0. There are still unfixed bugs like Windows bluetooth bug and low volume noise gate bug.

@npgSymboL Sound quality overall is much improved on the 7.6 update. The bass is still present but more accurate and much less "boomy". I listen to all types of music and find it much more pleasant and bright sounding without being "tiring" at high volumes. Haven't noticed the volume drop they are claiming here.

Actually I'm really impressed with the new update as you can tweak the equalizer from the settings of your phone itself with out the use of third party apps. So i can tweak the way I want my speaker to sound from my One plus device.. Cheers

When you disable the DSP on the charge 3 firmware 7.3.0 you get a lot of mid range distortion at low level volumes. Very noticeable with voices or acoustic guitars. I asked JBL/harman to fix that a year ago. Now i updated to 7.6.0 and the disabled GSP distortion is still present. This 7.6.0 update seems utterly useless. I don't get what took them so long.

Should i update from v7.3 to v7.6? Update is available after i update the JBL connect+ app

In my country, the Flip 4 costs around $90-100 whereas the Charge 3 is for 120-30. Which one would be the ideal option? I was settled on getting the Flip 4 because it's got the more updated hardware compared to the Charge 3 (BT4.2 and all) but I came across this one comment on a video that said the Charge sounded better after this "firmware update". So I looked it up, which lead me here, but I'm getting a little mixed up about it. What would you suggest?

Ironic as it is. The charge 3 has the same bluetooth SOC as the flip 4. Yet the flip 4 features bluetooth 4.2 rather than the charge 3's bluetooth 4.1. The SOC that they both use is the CSR8675 which supports bluetooth 5.0 and other codecs such as APTX and APTX HD if configured properly. JBL just isnt enabling those features. And I think they would not be because they would still have to release new speakers which would "support" these.

I bought a brand new Charge3 4 days ago. Did the connect+ update and the mids and highs are much better now. But this time both speakers in front were like same volume all the time. Version 7.3 indicated after the update.

With the 7.6 i have an audio level issue. At some point when i press + no audio level change happens, when i press + again it jumps 2 levels. This is annoying because the most enjoyable audio level is just in between the jump. This was not the case before.

The update is basically to upgrade the Connect feature of the speaker form 'Connect' to 'Connect Plus' so you can pair it with other 'Connect Plus' speakers. :)

Does anybody know if this is already fixed? We have three JBL Charge 3 and we were wondering if it was worth it to upgrade the firmware to connect them all. Is it possible to rollback the upgrade in case it ends up being disappointing?

there is no rollback without third party hacks.

I just have four jbl charge 3's. I want to connect all four together. I bought them thinking it will be easy to pair but notice I needed to upgrade to connect plus first.

After the update to 7.6 I definitely noticed it a bit softer at 50% volume compared to before and at max volume it definitely toned down the bass which I’m not a fan of, shouldn’t of updated it SMH 🤦‍♂️

Im on a 7.6.0 For me theres no changes in terms of soundquality so im ok with it😊

I seem to have firmware update 3.9 but can't find much about it. Also the app isn't showing my firmware version. If you hold the volume down button and the connect button for 3 sec it'll prompt your version apparently.

I asked myself the same question. 3.9 is bassy, but mids and highs sounds like from underground. I have updated to 7.6 and I am bit disappointed and confused. On 7.6 is definitely less bass, but overall the sound is clearer.

@@maltepettersson3083 ah! this is probably the dynamic limiter cutting in to reduce bass/distortion. i dont have this issue but others have reported it. let them know because they are said to be working on a software fix so more people that report it the more chance of a fix.

You are so lucky after the update the speaker sound less bass and less volume. It is so not good to update jbl charge 3 to the v7.6

I updated my Charge 3 and Flip 4 the other day and I love the sound of both of them now. I used to only listen to Rap or EDM on the Charge 3 and if I wanted to listen to Rock I would either just use the flip4 or if I wanted it loud(It gets trebley) I would use the Flip and Charge in party mode. Now Rock sounds awesome on the charge all by itself, and the flip sounds better to me also. Rap and EDM still sound good too but I'm mostly a classic or 90's rock guy so I'm extremely happy with the upgrades.

This is really good to hear. Researching on which to get and like you said I also listen mostly to band music, and love movie soundtracks with the occasional Hip Hop and dance. Most reviews seem to be all about "it's great for edm" but it's finally nice to see somebody recommending it for band style music

I upadated to the 7.6 and now my battery is dying really quickly, it will only last for 4hs. Can anybody help me solve this please

I updated mine speaker today for the first time and I noticed a little bit more bass and now I'm also able to pair with multiple speakers thanks to jbl connect +. I prefer it over the previous version

Didn't hear any difference. Wish they fix stereo mode when 2 speakers are connected, it randomly switches to party mode. Could be issue with my phone too...

I'm still on original firmware for this reason. So handy that it remembers that they were in stereo mode most recently. Especially if connected to a laptop or other device with the jbl app. So is this definitely not fixed in 7.6?

@@uknathan241 It shows 7.3.0 for both speakers. I bought 1 speaker when it was released and over 1 year later bought another. Should be identical hardware.

I'm still on 4.0 with connect. What do you think I. Should do?

@@alanrossreviews I still have some solid purpose for the charge 3,and like it. I think you do, as well, for the stereo separation. But I also like to use it for a computer speaker and phone convwrsontions. They all have their purpose, but there was something in one of your videos about upgrading past 4.0, I thought. Something about staying on connect, and not moving to connect+, on the Charge 3? I know you love the Charge 3. I love mine, too. My Charge 4's were stolen, so I just bought the 5's a few months ago. But the firmware was an issue, I remember. Lol

Hey, I think that I'll stay on 7.3. But nonetheless, can you try to measure the loudness with JBL connect+ on? Maybe it's louder. I am not asking for a video, even though I would appreciate it. Just make a quick listening and comment down here. Thanks!

You have activated some of the other modes of the speaker. Theres still alot of modes I've discovered.

Hi Allan! I just bought charge 3 since it was on sale 50% off. I ditch the sony xb32. I just need something on the go with bigger sound which my bose micro failed, don't get me wrong the micro is good for it's size! I could have bought another micro for stereo but I chose the charge 3 for the 3.5 input! I also bought an LG pk5 but it's too flat and bulky so I sold it. I have grey color for the 3 since black is out of stock and its pricier.

@@alanrossreviews Sorry I think I miss understood your question? Well, I think I'm liking it due to it was on sale and you are using it as well! It was the better option also for casual listening inside a minivan I'm driving with broken a stereo. 😅

depends on taste, this gets asked a lot. charge 4 if you are bass lover, charge 3 if you like mids and a more laid back sound.

@@l3arney its still a classic though, its shame they went mono on c4 and for deeper bass, the c3 justed needed better hardware but they could have kept the tuning

I just updated mine to 7.6.0 and my charge 3 has a serious glitch in AUX mode with PC! When the audio output's volume is lower than a certain value, the speaker will just suddenly go mute and recovers when the volume becomes higher! (Does not mean I switch the volume lower/higher, but the variation of volume on the audio itself ) This makes it impossible to listen to any quiet music or watch videos with silent scenes. When it was bought, I didn't check the firmware and it was 1.0 or 1.1 at stock. There was no such ridiculous problem at all. The only thing that annoys me was the auto sleep mechanism(When I do not play any sound with the speaker for some time, it will go to sleep mode even if I keep it plugged in. To get it back to normal, I need to turn the volume up and play something loud).

@@totommymmy I've just successfully rolled back my charge 3 from 7.6 to 7.3 after seeing a drop in volume; and seen a huge improvement in the top end loudness after flashing it back. I posted a link to the github thread that has a modded older connect app (1.1.3) and firmware 7.3. That version of the app lets you flash the older firmware back. The reddit post is titled "Can i Rollback JBL Charge 3 to update 7.3.0"

Updating Jbls is a gamble... Is like a Russian roulette, but instead of one, there a 5 chambers loaded with bullets... I think before every update there should be a worning quote of Clint Eastwood: "felling lucky, punk?" As you know, my charge 3s are running firmware 3.9 but is getting harder to listen to them compared to Tribit. I know, there is no stereo connection and the bass is not as boosted but more I listen to the Tribit, the Jbls starts to show so many imperfections, is like listen to low bit rate mp3.

haha! or even 6 chambers loaded! yeah charge 3s are pretty dated now and a lot of people are liking the tribits, i think i even prefer the older sonys but i just find charge 3s more all round for all situations, i end up reaching for the charge 3 most of all, especially for travelling.
