Jazzmeia Horn 'I Remember You' | Live Studio Session
Музыка
Riding a wave of excitement after the release of her debut album A Social Call from last year, Jazzmeia Horn sold out her Tuesday night Earshot Jazz Festival performance. Our studio audience was packed to catch her incredible talent and impressive band up close, and we're honored to share that studio session with you.
Musically, Horn was raised in a Baptist church choir. She was put here by the Creator to make music, Horn told us, and it's hard to argue that point. Her skills as a singer transcend standard jazz vocalists, Horn uses her voice as an instrumentalist would. Only she's able to mimic a symphony with her impressive pipes, wailing like a sax or popping and cracking like a drummer.
Musicians:
Jazzmeia Horn - vocals
Julius Rodriguez - piano
Endea Owens - bass
Henry Conerway III - drums
Audio:
John Kessler

Yeah, Julius is into the harmonics of Phineas Newborn Jr. and Bill Evans: That's as advanced as you can get on piano. Like having 3 hands.
It's like a talent bomb went off in that room...wow
Wow, this pianist and bassist are throwbacks and reclamation of the jazz greats Play ya'll

Timing. How to scat - starting at the highest point - bass and piano and drums are outstanding. What else is there to say?
Fabulous scat performance! Amazing ALL AROUND! everyone is so good! So wonderful to see women instrumentalists! So happy to see young people of the U.S. carrying on with one of the great American Art FORMS -- JAZZ!!!
the bass player solo..amazing
A riveting performance: Jazzmeia's endless inventiveness is matched by the two fabulous solos from the pianist and the bassist. Wow!

You don't realize how much girls are underrepresented in jazz till you're listening without watching the video, and during the killer bass solo, you happen to take a look at who's playing, and when you see it's a girl, you almost cry

I don’t think it is fair to use the word underrepresented here (that is if you implied some kind of discrimination). If there are not many girls playing double bass it is by choice. In jazz (and music in general) if you play well you suceed 🤷♂️

@@dionysis_ It’s not that simple. Jazz was a boys club for a long time and even though it’s starting to open up, representation still matters. You think a guy would join a high school jazz band if the only people in it were girls?

I remember you-ooh You're the one who made my dreams come true A few kisses ago I remember you-ooh You're the one who said, "I love you, too" Yes, I do, didn't cha know? I remember, too, a distant bell and stars that fell Like the rain out of the blue When my life is through And the angels ask me to recall The thrill of it all Then I will tell them I remember you-ooh I remember, too, a distant bell and stars that fell Just like the rain out of the blue When my life is through And the angels ask me to recall The thrill of it all Then I will tell them I remember, tell them I remember Tell them I remember you Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Johnny Mercer / Victor Schertzinger

🌱😀🌸💛
Great ensemble of musicians, loved Jazzmeia's style of singing. I am sharing this video with my teenaged daughters to view. Have you tried NPRs Tiny Desk or to be interviewed by the local KERA radio or tv station?
Holy shit
bad and beautiful
Love this lively cover of Björk's song!
I miss the verse of the tune. She made me remind Betty Carter.
She reminds me of Lisa Murray.
What is the problem with video speed?
I think The Manhattan Transfer would be proud of that "Caravan" scat.
Does anyone have the sheet music for the piano performance!
Very June Christy...then very Ella. Go you good thing! XXX
Sarah Vaughan and Rachelle Ferrell with a pinch of Miss Ella.
She sounds like a young Carmen McCray.
A new interpretation of an old standard that really swings. Often artists ruin standards by trying a new take that doesn't work. I'd say that's right up there with Ella's version. Written by Johnny Mercer for his lover Judy Garland, so they say.
It's amazing that you have so many listeners that cannot hear your intonation problems. GET A MONITOR or LISTEN to the PLAYBACK.
Jazz is literally in her name, I mean.. come on, what did you expect??
ok, ok, still a very young voice.
Some if her stuff I don't like, it can be a little unsympathetic to the original material she covers. THIS, however, is damn cool....
If I want to hear Betty Carter....I'll put on a Betty Carter recording.

C'est une bonne interprétation au début mais je n'aime pas la suite, elle se prend pour un saxophone ! Je préfère la version de Sarah , au moins elle , elle chante, elle n'énumère pas des sons sans queue ni tête !
She needs to work on her vibrato. It is a bit wobbly like her pitch. Overall, I like her singing.

There's some intentional microtonal singing going on, as is often the case in jazz. Not sure if you are taking that into account.

@@troldhaugen many years ago we listened to bop alto sax players who were stoned and would have intonation problems all throughout their solos. If anyone commented that they were out of tune, the answer was: " that's the style". This young singer has possibilities but she definitely has intonation problems just as many young singers these days. I have been listening to many from Ella Fitzgerald to Doris to Carmen McCrae for over 50 years and have not heard any intonation problems ever. This young singer has possibilities but she should listen to her many wrong notes and correct them.
