Yeah do what you want on your videos. That's where the fun is. I 'm listening to Monk in San Francisco now, Monk's definitely one of my top pianists. Ornette on Tenor was my first Coleman album. Back in the 80s Lou Reed mentioned him in an interview and I was intrigued and that was the first one I was able to find. I rank Shape Of Jazz To Come right up there with Love Supreme and the other all time classics.

Sorry about the softball game, but glad you had time for a great video! I haven't got into free jazz, but the scope of my jazz listening does keep expanding, so maybe I'll get there. I've heard Ascension, but I certainly don't get it, not yet anyway. Village Vanguard is one of my favourite Bill Evans records, night or day. I've never heard of the McCoy record on Milestone, but I'll keep my eyes open. Thanks!

My biggest discovery last year: (not jazz) but the many rare promo cd singles issued in the late 80's-early 90's for soul music Album that took me to the next level: The Red Hot Ray Brown Trio on Concord. It is a live album from 1985. Most far-out: Ornette Coleman: At the Golden Circle-Stockholm (1,2). Ornette even plays violin and Bob Bradley said it made his ears bleed Lesser known jazz label: Heavy Hitters (on Cory Weeds Cellar label issued in 2022 featuring Mike Ledonne on piano and Eric Alexander on sax) The one off artist: Harold Vick: Steppin out for Bluenote. He did other things but nothing like this. Smaller label release of big jazz artist: Kenny Drew "For Sure" with Sam Noto, Charles McPherson, Leroy Vinnegar, Frank Butler. That one was on my wish list for over a year to go that title on a Japanese issued cd. There's a US cd-r and they didn't reissue it with many of the others a few years back. It's my favorite on that Xanadu label. Early in the morning: I've been meditating lately while on the way to work. Black radio typically played gospel in the 5-7 O'clock AM spot so maybe Coltrane's Love Supreme should be played here. Late night: Anything slow. Many would probably say Jimmy Smith All music makes me think. If it doesn't, it ain't any good. Boring cover with great music: The legend of acid jazz series put out by Fantasy which pairs two albums on the Fantasy label. The best of the bunch was probably the one issued on Shirley Scott covering Hip soul and Hip twist. I certainly hope your daughter has a good softball season without politics or cancellations. I really hate to guess what it is about. I came to your channel to get away but the "T-issue" is going to tear the country apart as there is absolutely no common sense. I dealt with it 30 plus years ago without medication and pretty much had shut my body down by restricting. I almost ended up institutionalized in an era where there was no support but I knew I didn't want to go any further down the path laid before me. In school, I did hear a story where someone committed suicide in a maiming way because they couldn't stand it and I knew in my situation, my feelings would not go away. These past couple weeks transported me back to those raw emotions. The VC including yourself, my local DJ's, and the great musicians who played jazz and soul really got me through. Thank you!

I'm fairly new in jazz vinyl collecting. I have a lot of Brazilian jazz. My first jazz record was Getz/Gilberto. My favourite Bill Evans album is you must believe in spring. You can listen to it anytime of the day. My first Blue Note record was a first pressing of Don Cherry Complete Communion I love it. My favourite late night/early morning record that I own is Milt Jackson Thelonious Monk Quintet I think it's a masterpiece. Im picking up Joe Henderson Inner Urge tomorrow its amazing. I'm also picking up the tone poet Andrew Hill dance with death. I preordered it weeks ago.

@@tunesfromthemancave2564 yeah it cost me a lot of money but it's fire. It's not too crazy but it's interesting to listen to. The Milt Jackson is at the opposite end of the scale. I like to listen to it in bed the vibes is really relaxing. I'm getting passing ships and dance with death tone poets tomorrow and I'll see what else I can pick up. Just found your channel. I'll check out some more of your videos.

Love the video man! And thanks for starting the tag! That Ilori record is so amazing. It seems it doesn't get very much love in the community so I love that you pulled it. And whoa Black Unity promo! One of his top 3 records for sure! I still think though that his S/T on Indian Navigation label is #1. I respect your taste in music, Chris. Love your selections! Cheers.

Ascension has been my favorite Coltrane album for a while now. Interestingly enough it wasn't that hard for me to get into in comparison something like to Free Jazz by Ornette Coleman or karma by Pharoah sanders. Maybe that's just because there's a lot more method to the structure of it imo. It's just ensemble, solo, ensemble, solo, ensemble solo, etc.. Also on the wikipedia page for the album, they tell you who is soloing at what time. Makes it a lot easier to digest when you know who is soloing when.

I’ve yet to get into Free Jazz by Coleman, but love Karma, so hey 🤷🏻‍♂️when I first got into jazz I was a straight ahead hard bop guy but just like my tastes with every genre I dig, they’ve evolved and I listen to as much free jazz as I do anything now. Ascension just hasn’t hit for me yet but I’m confident it will.
