Not being a jazz soloist makes standing next to one of the most famous improvising multi-instrumentalists in the history of the modern world quite a daunting task. No, there were no rehearsals, we were at a 70th birthday party for Steve’s dad. The look on Jim’s face when he saw James for the first time was such a beautiful moment. Great work Stevo and nice double d on the end ;-)

Screw anything with a bow on it; I'm asking family and friends for James Morrison this year..! That other trumpeter up there with him was keeping up with James pretty damn well too! Awesome video, and what an experience for your dad!

James Morrison was very respectful of Greg Spence and never tried to outplay him. Greg Spence played very well and Greg and James worked with each other very nicely in the solo section. On the last note, James Morrison played a G above high C and Steve Allen went for E above double high C, initially hitting double C#, but bent it up to D# before the release.

If he was standing next to anyone else in the world, the other trumpet player would have sounded real cool. But sadly he was standing next to James Morrison... Still, he did way better than I could have.

Julian L, Kurt didn't bring anything into this discussion that warranted that response. FWIW, on the last note, James Morrison played a G above high C and Steve Allen went for E above double high C, initially landing on double C#, but bent it up to D# before the release. Because Steve Allen's last note was pretty loud and his initial attack was a sixth below his release pitch, close to James's G, and he hung over every one else, it is difficult to parse that out.
