Simple and fun medium swing jazz blues jam track in D minor!
Tempo = 120 BPM
Chord progression:
II: Dm7 I Dm7 I Dm7 I Dm7 I
I Gm7 I Gm7 I Dm7 I Dm7 I
I Bb7 I A7 I Dm7 I Em7b5 A7 :II
On the track, you will hear extensions of these chords - as is common in jazz of course :)
Scale suggestions:
D minor pentatonic scale - D F G A C
D minor blues scale - D F G G# A C
D minor scale - D E F G A Bb C
Bb7 chords :
Bb Lydian Dominant - Bb C D E F G Ab
A7 chords:
D harmonic minor scale - D E F G A Bb C#
Or
Treat it as an altered chord and use the altered scale:
A altered scale - A Bb C C# Eb F G
The altered scale is the mode which starts on the 7th step of the melodic minor scale, so in other words - the notes of A altered scale are the same as those of Bb melodic minor scale :)
Arpeggios:
Dm7 - D F A C
Gm7 - G Bb D F
Bb7 - Bb D F Ab
A7 - A C# E G
Em7b5 - E G Bb D

Hey Quist...love the jazzy blues! I saw a image of Quist/jazz tee shirt but, tell me...where can I buy one? I went to the web site but couldn’t find them. Btw, as a fan of yours, when are you coming to Southern California to play? I live in San Diego and there are two Intimate venues: the House of Blues and the other one is Belly-up.

I'm having so much fun with this track. It locks in my head and good stuff just seems to come from my flute. Thank you very much.

Another great backing track. I always work towards eventually hearing chords changes, rather than seeing them on the screen. However, if you don't know the chord progression or how many bars for each, then seeing is great when starting to practice. The best visual for me is seeing all chords on the screen at the same time and highlighting each chord as it passes by.

Love when you make jazz tracks. Really high quality. Personally not a fan of the moving chords on screen. Preferred the static shot of the chord progression if there's gonna be a picture at all but it's no big deal. I shouldn't be looking at the screen to remember the chords any way so maybe it's a good thing.. wait actually.. yeah no I don't like the scrolling chords.. I dunno I'm hella twisted right now dawg.. appreciate you! You're the man! Track sounds great!
