The difference is that Luka is in the "Amazing" tier of offense which covers the "average" tier of defense he's in. Tatum is in the "Really Good" tier in offense so he needs to be at a higher tier defensive wise to counter argument Luka's offense.

@@joshuahudson1853 Tatum already went out and had a 30 ppg season. He doesn't need to for his team to win, so he took a role in taking less shots for the greater good of the team. The difference isn't enough to ignore the fact Luka doesn't play defense. He is not average. He tries taking charges with 5 fouls, and gets blown by constantly. Tatum's only negative is his clutch play, which hasn't been good. And him having a better team around him, so he doesn't get as many shots as Luka.

Embiid can't perform in the playoffs...ever! Top 4 in the WORLD?

JT did not win bc Luka is JB matchup and PJ was JT's they both did their job stop Luka from facilitating and stop PJ from killing you like he did the other teams! JT picked apart the defense to create for his team mates which he chose to send the ball to JB more than Jrue & Derrick while stopping PJ from killing him like he did the Thunders! Celtics do not finish without JT becoming a better creator & JB a defender! Luka was the matchup this time rather than KD/ Giannis both of which JT has gone toe to with and won the matchup! For voters is about matchups more than what all the player is doing sometimes and the box office matchup here was Edwards Vs Brown which turned into Luka Vs Brown! They are phenomenal as they are now in (JB) and about to hit (JT) their primes!

I find it disingenuous to say Tatum can’t be the best player in the league because isn’t “tenacious” on defense when 2 of the 3 players you have in tier one are horrific on defense. So to me it’s like “ok so its really based on gaudy numbers and wow moments”

Seems to me his point was that Tatum can't be consistent on offense. Those other 4 guys will deliver offense every time, no matter the situation. If Tatum cant be consistent on offense then he will have to be the best on the other side

Good for Tatum, he probably will never win MVP due to his team having such great players, but he absolutely deserves this money as the best player on a championship team. That Celtics team is scary for years to come man.

Um Embiid has an MVP… last year he played 33 minutes per game and averaged 34/11/6 and the year before 33/10/4 and the year before 30/11/4. Don’t confuse player greatness with team success. There are 10-15 other people on the team.

Tatum has almost as many conference finals appearances as Jokic, Giannis and Luka combined. Only 1 less finals appearance than all three combined, and as many titles as Giannis and Jokic. 4 time all nba and 5 all star appearances, but there's nothing he can do to be viewed as the best player in the league? hilarious!!!

JT doesn't fit the agenda. On court we all know he elite and actually plays both sides of the court. But also off court presence. Side note is that he plays for Boston. Their run and chip has shown the shade most have from the team. They won without their starting 5 being healthy and somehow what other team do means something.

Nick's building the gotcha case for Boston's failure. He did same thing with KD's Warriors and Joker's 2nd MVP. Above all else, Nick wants a supremely controversial take of his to come true by some miracle, so he can gloat i-told-you-so.

It’s just fun to hate Tatum. Tatum leads in almost every single playoff stat since he entered the league. Multiple time All-Star & All-NBA player. ECF Finals MVP. Finals champion. I get it, Tatum was forced down everyone’s throat at the beginning of his career so everyone is tired of it, but the dude is easily one of the best in the world.

The new ownership can just calculate the projected luxury tax from the guaranteed contract and shave it in the offer or share it with the current ownership.

I'm a Celtics fan so naturally I'm very biased when it comes to all things Celtics. I like them to beat any team in the east in 6 games or less, this includes the new-look Knicks, Sixers and any of the old guard. Against the west? I struggle to see them dropping more than 1 or 2 games against ANY team that makes it to the finals. Edit: Forgot to mention that this is assuming they're healthy and aren't missing their key pieces. If they're missing guys then teams like the Knicks, Bucks and 6ers obviously have a shot at knocking the Cs out before the finals.

Yeah, the only concern for me is Jokic absolutely bullied our bigs last season. Having said that, they have lost ALOT of depth (now KCP is gone too!). So I don't think they will make it out of the West anyway. Would agree with the rest of your assessment.

Clutch? Last year Tatum scored 18 in the 4th at Philadelphia while being down 3-2 then in game 7 scored more than any single person ever in an elimination game. If Luka or Giannis did that, there wouldn’t be 2 seconds on any sports show where they’re still not talking about it

The look on Nick's face whenever Kevin Wildes brings up a graphic 😂

If he takes away the step back 3's and the Kobe turnarounds his efficiency would go way up. You saw in the playoffs if the shot wasn't there, he put his head down and either got to the rack or had a nice dish. He was also doubled a ton which nobody ever mentions.

Even though they had Holiday with zero turnovers until game 4. Tatum wanted to hog the ball to go for the finals MVP. "and rebounds" He played heavy minutes as a power forward, so I don't see this being surprising. What's surprising is he wasn't benched. "Normally person with ball the most has most turnovers." Normally the point guard with zero turnovers should have the ball the most. And normally a player who keeps shooting at 32 % is benched.

Joker is not the first “point center” we have seen. Hakeem was definitely a point center and by far the most skilled center to play that position. This Recency bias is starting to get out of hand.

I’d say he’s the evolution of Bill Walton Vlade Divac and Chris Webber. I think the way the game evolved allowed Jokic to bring the ball up but those guys were just as skilled passing and ball handling.

Yeah the Celtics give Tatum more opportunities than Brown, that’s why he gets better stats and gets more regular season accolades. To me Brown is overall better

They just wanted to win man, and as a Boston fan that's all we care about. If he wins MVP cool. Would you rather be a 6er's fans and having a top 2 mvp candidate each year but losing in the 2nd round? Or be a Celtics fan watching a collection of excellent players and watching your team in the ECF or finals almost every year and just winning the chip?

Between 2016 and 2018 I'd have said with a straight face that Klay is the best 2-way player in basketball: He could defend better than anyone who wasn't known specifically for their defence (i.e. Kawhi, Draymond, Gobert) but could score as well as anyone in the league, particularly better than those guys who could also claim to be good defenders. He didn't win an MVP. I don't think he has a chance of winning one on a team with Luka who will stuff the stat box too much and at best see the two cannibalize each others chances. Putting him in the odds would be like an honorable mention or a hot take (kind of like Tatum) as he's just not nearly as good as Jokic, Giannis, or Embid and if Wemby puts up the points to warrant it, that award will likely be his anyway.

One thing Nick and Chris overlook about why there hasn’t been a repeat champ since the Warriors is due largely to injuries. Every defending champ since the KD Warriors has had one of their two best players be injured for extended periods the following season.

He’s a perfect example of why box stats don’t mean everything. He takes the most ugly shots and ball hogs like crazy but finishes with 30/10/10

Nick actually made a good point Excluding Emdiid, Brou said tenacious defense while also including Luka ahead of JT… they need to look at JTs Defense numbers. JT avg 30+ for a season, didn’t get the chip… avgs 26 wins a chip, what do y’all really want.

The notion Tatum is not tenacious defensively is absurd. Dallas’ lob game cratered in the finals after being the most efficiently lethal weapon in the Western Conference playoffs. Tatum was Boston’s primary defender against the lob the whole series and turned that weapon into a detriment. Also, the best player in the NBA is Wemby. Remember, with no help, he got the better of Joker, Giannis, and Luka - and outplayed them head to head the last 2 months of the year

Did Nick just admit Basketball is a team sport when describing the greatness of Isiah Thomas? The Greatest actual point guard. And I mean by size. Curry is a shooting guard while Green plays point. Magic is small forward who played out of position. The Big O also played out of position.

I'm going to be as unbiased as possible and really try to rank the top 25 in the NBA right now while prioritizing youth, defense, health, and regular season + playoffs performance (this is actually really fun, and everyone should try to do it). 1) Jokic 2) Giannnis 3) SGA 4) Luka 5) Tatum 6) Embiid 7) Lebron 8) AD 9) KD 10) Brunson 11) Curry 12) Booker 13) Ant 14) Zion 15) Kawhi 16) Sabonis 17) Haliburton 18) Wemby 19) Mitchell 20) Fox 21) Brown 22) Kyrie 23) Sengun 24) Maxey 25) Murray Notes: AD, Brunson, and Sabnois are severely underrated. Ant is hard to rank because he had an amazing post season, but he was much more tame during the regular season. Lebron, KD, Curry, and Kawhi are hard to rank, because they are still elite, but their age is a factor. Luka is bad on defense, but he is still young and his offense is too elite to ignore. Tatum is high because he's young, always healthy, solid on offense and defense and just won the chip. Embiid is incredible but he is lower because he's always injured. Wemby is this high purely because of his youth and potential. Wemby could legit be top 10 next season. Brown could be even higher because of his defense alone. Brown shut down Luka numerous times in the Finals. Murray had a bad season and postseason, hence him being so low. Butler didn't make the list because he always coasts in the regular season, hurting his stats. Maybe if Butler made up for it with an amazing playoff run, but he was injured and the Heat lost in the first round.

There was never a moment in Tim Duncan career that he was considered the best player in the world they gotta stop the 🧢

Dude, Tatum is an excellent defender. Not just good; excellent. Brou has the best basketball takes on this show but Tatum already does that.

Tatum is as good defensively as any of the top players in the league. If you want you superstar to "Give it his all on both ends," then Tatum is your guy
