Derrick white is not a point guard. Everybody you listed aside from holiday is ball dominant aside from holiday. Brown would just be another guy that’s gonna make the ball stick. White is a floor spacer, transition pusher and ball mover. It’s not about just assembling the best 12 guys. It’s about putting the 12 guys that fit best together. Personally, I’ll take JB over booker.

No Derrick White’s game compliments the team. They don’t need anymore offensive players! Jrue Holiday is the only defensive stopper on the team. DW goes hard both ways and won’t be looking to take over the game scoring, they already have KD, Steph, Lebron, Booker, Tatum even Anthony Edwards to go score on the perimeter. But some guys need to defend and not worry about ball handling. DW is an insurance to Jrue Holiday plus I bet Kawhi would have been used for his defense on this team anyway. good choice selecting Derrick White

Saying Jaylen Brown doesn't sacrifice and play his role is ludicrous. He's the most selfless super star in the league. He's played second fiddle to Tatum his entire career when everyone knows he's the better player. This year he finally got the hardware to show for it winning ECF and Finals MVP when he finally just cut his losses and took over because Tatum was choking. He's lost finals and playoff series over "playing his role" instead of taking over the team to avoid ruffling feathers. The reason Brown isn't going is because he's outspoken and intelligent from a social justice/political standpoint. Team USA is probably far more worried what he might say about the country with a mic in his face than how he fits in on the court. Like cmon now. We know he's a perfect fit for the team and deserves to be there. Picking three of his teammates over him when he proved he's the best player on his team this year is wild.

They had to massage the truth about Jaylen Brown not being selected. JB represents himself may be considered an outsider in the basketball power-broker community. I think he should have been invited over Kawhi and Booker, at the very least, but it is likely no one lobbied for him. Derrick White, I would think, was already selected as the back-up on the initial shortlist prior to the announcement of the final roster, because with Kawhi, who knows what his health condition would be. If we were talking about basketball fit, Brown would fit in well because he already has two teammates on the team and he has experience working with the coaches since he was on the 2019 FIBA World Cup roster. The simplest explanation is probably the best one - the decision-makers didn't want him there. Whether it's political or how Brown conducted himself in 2019 is anyone's guess. The optics of White backing out would be horrendous, even if he believes Brown deserves it more. I don't think the US would lose, but if they did, this PR flap would be hard to live down.
