Amazing doesn't even begin to describe what this woman is. Her strength is far beyond anything I can comprehend. She chooses life after being in a living hell for so.long and to me that's beyond amazing, that's beyond strong, it's beyond incredible. She's nothing short of heroic and because there doesn't seem like anything else I can do right here and now, I applaud her. I applaud her for choosing life, not just after the fact, but during. She could have given up then and she could have given up after being rescued. She would have more of a right than most any other person alive, but she didn't. Heroic.

Well you can’t just let bad things take control of your life, I don’t have the best life either I feel I’m being held hostage because I go into my own world that I can’t get free from, my brain badly controls everything in my life in a person who was controlling Jaycee My brain is the same, she lives through hell so do I, I might not be physically held against my will and chained up in a shed or to a poll with a rope around my neck or anything like that, bit I still can not break free fin my own mind” I have OCD, Autisum, and a Chromosome 10 defect so I struggle sooo much with outings with my friends and family, I can’t hav3 conversations with those who are important to me It just feels like my life is passing by soooo fast and I am not around to see what the world is like, I am there but not aware of what is going on

Now I’m on Zoloft and it really really helps me with mostly my compulsive issues where a child cry’s in the store it doesn’t bother or faze me now I am able to joke about it, Or walking by I can hear a child cry and I am about to go about my day and not bother with that child, which is great it makes me feel I’m in control and I am aware of my emotions, Zoloft really really does work for OCD I need t9 be on that otherwise I get extremely angry and I have to get out of the situation otherwise I’ll punch the child out or knock his or hers teeth out, I get soooo angry I don’t have time to think before I do something stupid, but because I’m on medication now I am soooo much better i feel extremely good about myself now,

I don’t fee9 my brain is holding me hostage anymore I am able to talk with friends and family, in able to enjoy outings with those I love and who love me, it feel soooooo great I’m happy about myselfz, I feel I have control somewhat over my emotions when a child cry’s

They need to have Jaycee’s law which would require all rapists and serious child molesters ( anything more serious than touchy-feely) to serve their entire sentence in prison. When they need to give early release to criminals, release the pot heads first.

Here's the problem with that - and every single law that says the more dangerous people should not get early release - they are then released WITHOUT SUPERVISION AT ALL. Early release means they are SUPPOSED to have supervision. So, all this - we are so tough we are going to make you serve every single day - does nothing but make it worse.

After the unimaginable nightmare she lived through, it is so heartwarming to see Jaycee smile and to get this update on how she is doing. What an elegant, insightful, and articulate lady!

Stockholm my ass she adapted to survive her captors she did what she had to do to survive. Teaching her to take charge of her life and not to let what this sick monster did to her define who she is. She is a survivor.

I'm from england and remember back when Jaycee Dugard got taken and have followed what happened, and it truly make's me angry and sad when people try and jump into her head. Nobody could imagine what she went through ! I hate that phrase “Stockholm syndrome “ it belittles what victims of crimes like kidnapping, trafficking and abuse actually go through.We don’t necessarily fall in love with them, we simply adapt to the circumstances we’re trapped in and living in the midst of long term severe trauma changes a person and survival mode becomes the only mode you have left. I think a better term is trauma bonding but in many ways that’s different too.

People that have never encountered any type of sexual abuse should not comment!! It is real and it takes a toll on a person’s life! I survived a step father that was evil and told me that he would kill me. I believed him. I thought at the time if he was crazy enough to do this to me and tell me that no one would believe me then I believed him. Especially when he held a knife to my throat! You all need to realize that terror like this is real and for a little girl to endure what she and is a survivor is amazing! I still have flashbacks and have a really hard time with it. LeVe her alone. She is a survivor!

I cried tears of sorrow for what she endured and tears of joy when she was rescued.

This is the story that impressed me the most in my life. It also gave me the most hope that there are other (mostly) girls that disappeared, might return one day. We should nebver give up looking for disappeared children or teenagers. They might be somewhere... they might be held captive by your neigbor, by someone you know. If you suspect anything, act on it! Don't ignore it! It might save the life of someone like Jaycee Dugard, Amanda Berry, Elisabeth Smart, Madeline McCahn and so on.

such a beautiful person and so so glad her life is as it should be for her now!!!! and that her story can help so many others!!! she's a survivor !!!!! thank God!!!!

You think she’s lucky? She’s not lucky. She’s actually very unlucky. She’s just incredibly strong and has overcome horrible luck in such an unbelievable way that other people look at her and think she’s “lucky”. She is definitely not lucky.

i’m not surprised of her intelligence and strength (obviously beyond impressive)… what im most surprised by is her lighthearted humor, i wonder how i would have been trying to cheer myself up with nobody but terrible adult influences around and isolated from most normal societal social skill opportunities like friends/school/church/hobbies.

Its wrong yes, but also it can't be denied that it happens, sadly its a weird part of the mind. I cant exactly explain it exactly, but, its weird emotional draw ... Its really sad ... Maybe it is as they say a version of that, like a different way, not stockholm syndrome, but an attempt to connect to the human in the person, who may have been there before, that type of thing!!!! I guess its that sometimes. So they still feel like a human I would think!!!!

​@@Vero2yuif you've heard about The Girl in The Box, everyone thought she had Stockholm syndrome too but really, during her captivity all she did to stay sane was to dissociate into her memories with family, she was so mentally twisted that her captor trusted her enough to reunite with her family alone and even then she still was too scared to say it do anything against the captor. Its not Stockholm syndrome, its survival ran by fear

I was in a 4 star hotel with my family in Spain a few decades ago. Kids were routinely snatched at breakfast and the hotel tried to hide it.

I can see this because if you cannot learn to control an animal 10 times your size How are you supposed to protect yourself if someone bigger again tries to attack you or say hurtful things You have to know how to keep yourself safe. And learning to control a horse is a pretty good way of showing people about control. It teaches them” I’m in control here you don’t tell me what I’m supposed to say or do this is my life, you go have your life I’ll have mine that’s that” And that’s the point of being able to handle something 10 times her size

I couldn't even begin to imagine not being able to see the light of day or the dark of night for 18 years 😢 That sounds awful!

This story always breaks my heart. I saw it on the news as a child and read into it yet reading about it as an adult is so much more heart wrenhcing. I can't even begin to describe my feelings around this case. She has not even been released as long as she was captive. Thats A. Although she says she doesn't want to think back to that little girl and has moved on, I still think back to that little girl and my heart absolutely breaks. Who would do that to a child? I cannot understand. I will never understand. Her mother too... wondering where her child is for all those years. Every single night. Then to find out where she was and that she went through all of that. Her mother was so relieved but also those details must keep her up at night. I cannot even fathom evil like this exists. I wish this family the most peaceful rest of their lives, they all deserve so much. Everything life has to offer.

But most people fear that it could teach their children to have soooo much control That they’ll become like the person who’s hurt them. Which I can see their point I understand why people would be kinda freaked out by doing this However they do not let it get to that point. If it gets like that and they’re confident enough where they do not need more lessons then they’ll let them go and they’ll help someone else who needs it.

You have to remember these people who work and own this ranch. Do not help people of abuse But people that lack confidence in themselves and may not make friends that well. They’d have to learn to bond with the horse too And do the same thing as Jaycee did. And it basically gives them control they start to realize” hey look the horse is listening to me, I have control over something bigger than me it feels great” And it really gives people that self confidence and they eventually are able to make friends in the future. And teenagers especially lack confidence sometimes so they do not just teach this to people like her. There is lots of teenagers and young adults who don’t have confidence and they’re not good at making friends, they do this stuff too. So it’s basically helping everyone not just abused children. Or kidnapped children or teenagers you know It’s there to help anyone who is suffering in silence no matter what or how bad it is. So there

The issue of Stockholm Syndrome should be easy to overcome without dismissing it as a concept. Was there ever a point where you felt a bond with your abductor? Were you ever sympathetic to their circumstances or actions? If the answer to either of these is no then you didn't have Stockholm Syndrome. The problem is not the term, it is people insisting it exists when it does not. My 29 year old daughter has completely succumbed to trauma bonding. Her abductor was her mother when she was 11. The legal system did nothing but protect mom. I don't believe she will ever be able to have a relationship with her dad, ME, ever again. She is still trapped in a cult, now, going on 18 years. God only knows the depth of psychological damage done to her. Attorneys, Judges and Psychologists should go to jail for allowing that level of evil against a child. I would definitely use Stockholm Syndrome where my daughter is concerned.

I'm no way shaming her, or saying she is wrong, stupid, anything like that so I wanna start with that when I say what I'm about it. And that's not from a place who has walked in her shoes, I can't even begin to imagine, literally it's insane to me an breaks my heart. But I did notice that I didn't know why she didn't like the term stockholm syndrome? It doesn't mean she didn't want to leave, or hated every single second of everyday of her life, and I'm sure hated him more and more then she probably ever thought a human could hate another. It doesn't mean that at all, so I don't think people mean that if they say that's the feeling most kidnapped kids have towards their kidnapper(s), and that's because especially if it's any type of sexual abuse overall, and it be your first or your first whatever they're doing, there isn't an attachment like it was consensual or wanted from you or between spouses. But a different kind for the nature of it and especially being a child not being able to consent, but that's why most feel that attachment, not that they love them or anything, but that it's something you will never forget, and you remember every single detail without even trying or wanting to. Like I said, not all but some do. It's a beyond unimaginable traumatic thing to experience in any age, but definitely shapes you in different ways the younger I think you were, and I hate that anyone would ever go through that. I don't know the strength it takes, I've never been close to experiencing that and I'm 26, so I admire them more then they will ever know and assures me exactly why they lived through it, and got through the different things that's happened during that time. Anyone disagree? Or agree with me about it? I welcome same and different opinions, I could be wrong, but that's just my impression of stockholm syndrome.

teamblue if you read what she’s talking about it’s not what your talking about. Most people associate Stockholm Syndrome with being in love with your captor. People say because she didn’t try to escape, she was in love with him or she cared about him. In reality she was scared. Scared of what he’d do to her, her family, her kids. To the outside it seems like she had opportunities to escape. In reality we don’t know that he wasn’t listening to the phone and watching her every move. That’s her point, that what she did was about survival not feelings for him. I really appreciate how respectful you were about it.

Sorry, I know she doesn't like to admit it, but she had Stockholm Syndrome....she was taking phone calls for him and picking up supplies outside of the home. at ANY point she could have called for help....
