When he gives you that Okocha skill, your whole body will be confused turning around in confusion. He really punished Paul Scholes, Ashley Cole and even Ronaldinho was careful when around him.

I still remember watching his full game debut against Italy in WC 94. We were watching for Baggio, but this skinny Nigerian midfielder was doing things on the ball and twisting some of the best defenders in the world inside out. I remember even the commentators picking up on it. We were calling him the African Romario that day. He went on to be so great but under appreciated.

What I loved most about him was the way he created space for himself and team mates. When the ball is played to him, he calms the game down, especially when playing against teams who like to rush and intimidate their opponents like Man U used to do in the past

Yes. But he was not very effective. Beautiful moves but did not give the teams a powerful attack. He would pause the attacks. Made them slow down. Thats why I dont support his moves and his football. Not a very smart player to make the team win.

@@wilberduran9410 Even though Ronaldinho learnt from him, your point is why Ronaldinho was more effective. But I disagree that Okocha was not smart. He only managed his weakness. And that in itself is smartness. He was a great dribbler and ball passer. He didn't have the ability to combine speed for a long time with his dribbling against opponents. He could do that when he was much younger but could not maintain it as he grew up. If he tried it he would have been committing some blunders. So he was effective to the extent of his weakness.

A balon d’Or winner is mostly also in solid teams where they can excell.. Without Barça Messi probably wouldn’t have won a single Balon d’Or in the first place. And the last one was obviously given. Just like the whole World Cup win.

I wish played under a coach that would have brought out more end product from him..but then again, would JJ still have enjoyed his game under such a coach? He didn't have pace like other magicians like Ronaldinho and Maradona so deeper roles suited him better. That's also a possible reason why he didn't score many goals.

Most skillful player in decades. He was unfortunately not always in the right teams with the right teammates. Maybe with PSG. But that was a total different era then nowadays. A balon d’Or winner is mostly also in solid teams where they can excell.. Without Barça Messi probably wouldn’t have won a single Balon d’Or in the first place. And the last one was obviously given. Just like the whole World Cup win.
