This album made my childhood, I’m so glad to finally know who made beats! Some of my favorite’s for sure!

I remember seeing Nelly's "Country Grammar" video for the first time at like 11 years old. It was maybe on The Box, MTV Jams or BET; I can't recall. I remember thinking "Hmmm this is different. He isn't from New Orleans or with No Limit or Cash Money. He may be a one hit wonder" Boy was I wrong. Nelly came and changed everything

Jay E - one of the greats. Huge for STL. I remember Saints!! I used to live right down the street in Warson Village apartments & I would sneak out & run down there then Steak & Shake on the corner lol...memories

Dude is one of my fav producers! I'll never forget the first time I heard Country Grammar.

Sad to say but this is the first time I’ve seen Jay E and I’m from Chicago. The Lou is too close not to have seen him interviewed before! Pure genius! He put St. Louis and Nelly on the map with his unique sound. A true producers producer. Not trying to hog the spotlight but he knows he was the mastermind behind Nelly’s classic album! EI is still my shit when it comes on. Great back story, very inspiring! Props Jay E!

Jay E is the reason I love hip hop. I was like 7 years old when I heard the album country grammar. Wish more people knew who laid down those beats! Props to the man! Class act

Being From STL Jay E was EVERYTHING! Still is...just with the way, he kept his beats simple but still so very very catchy! ...and they KNOCK too! That E.I. Joint Still gets me hype being from the Lou!!! Very great view into his start...and really cool to hear his love of music took him to the top! ITS MOTIVATION!

As an NYC guy, always special to see different regions produce Hip Hop that had their own local flavor. Love Country Grammar until this day and this breakdown of it's creation is great.

This guy is one of the reasons why im a producer... so underrated its unreal

Those Sony multitrack Tape machines were primarly used back then as you can easily track over into Protools. Chris Lord-Alge was still using digital tape up until 2007. Thats when he switched to rhe Focusrite Rednet to transsion off of tape over to protools rig.

@NaSaKiD1000 Labels and producers save all the stems, especially for an album as big as this, they digitally remastered it awhile ago, so he would of had to bounce all the stems into pro tools for that.

A lot of this makes me smile. Glad he said that the Nelly style was not out at the time ... a lot of people forget that. The fact that those tracks were being shopped around and getting NO's??? Wow! That's all I can say. Yes, they absolutely should be fired hahaha

Country Grammer beats was so raw took a minute to catch the vibe of all them beats on that album but when i did i realized how classic it was

This was the most played album in my car back in senior year highschool. Possibly my fav rap beat.

This is definitely a classic, especially for my hometown of STL. I grew up going to that skating rink, Saints. We had teen parties there every Saturday night, and of course we were the first to hear this track (like late 1999). Like, I didn't even know who Nelly was, but I was a little familiar with St. Lunatics. Also, my brother was a producer from that studio, and a dj at the rink. This was definitely a great time in St. Louis. Big ups to Jay-E for crafting the sound that put worldwide eyes on our city.If any of you haven't heard the track that he mentioned, "Gimmie What You Got", or that EP, "Who's Da Boss", you should check it out. They had some serious bars, and you'll hear where some of the hooks on their popular songs originated.

I was an Actor in the Midwest Swing Video! I was on Stage with Nelly and the St. Lunatics taking photos of the Group at the End of the Stage. I'm the guy wearing the White, Wide Brim Hat. That was My Hat. They Only supplied the Jacket i wore on the Set. It was shot over in Illinois at an Abandoned Factory plus it was shot on the North St. Louis, Mo. Side too.

He got the violin string sound from RZA’s Bobby Digital In Stereo” 1998 album. It’s from the song “Terrorist”.

Holy fuck. The room just pauses.... then when that "Yoikes uhhh uhhh uhhh." The bass dropped and damn.... Party went in a vibe like....man.... crazy...never seen that before.

Love the drum programming and beat; sounds very Midwest, Midwest is urban but laidback contrary to the boom bap sound of the east coast. You can hear the same elements sound to Kanye’s early albums.

Slowdown...(the brother that used to wear the mask) played Country Grammar for me while cutting my hair in Ferguson one evening before it was fully mixed. He explained to me that it was his man Nelly and that it would be released on Universal Records soon. I told him it was a hit record. I traveled the country at the time...The song dropped and when I hit a new city I would tell everyone that would listed to look out for Nelly from St. Louis. The next time I saw Slowdown was backstage in Hollywood California!!!

Funny, he brought up that Bobby Digital sample, cuz I remember in the VH1 Behind The Music about Nelly. They were showing throwback pictures of Jay E and he was rocking a Wu-Tang shirt in one of the old photos. I remember thinking to myself, that the Wu/RZA influence probably adds another unique element to his sound and gives him an edge over many St. Louis/Midwest producers. Always been a fan of this dude. Interesting. Jay E is one of those dudes I've always wondered about. He came out blazing hot with Country Grammar then seemingly disappeared/fell off. You had to be there when Country Grammar came out. Shit was so unique to me. It was obvious pop but it was also quite hip hop at the same time. "Ride With Me" blew me the fuck away. Hip POP evolved once Nelly came out.

I remember the 1st time hearing Country Grammar (*looks off into the distance, shits bout to get nostalgic)... I was 14 at the time and worked at a Mcdonalds in the mall, i was on my lunch break walking around when i saw a guy, Ray from my high school walking around listening to music on his discman, nodding his head with a smile on his face. Now the only reason i really knew who this guy was because we had fought each other in the 1st week of that school year. So we weren't on speaking terms at all, but for some reason Ray felt the need to approach me, as he walked toward me I thought to myself "oh shit, here we go, we bout to throw down". But to my surprise Ray pulled the head phones off and said "Bra you gotta hear this". Needless to say it was Country Grammar. Shit blew my mind I had never heard rap sound so melodic... any way cool video.
