    It was a similar situation for Arman when he fought Islam.Arman lost but gained so much and now is close to the title.Diego Lopes too made his debut against "the next champ material" and now he is one of the fans and Dana's favorites. If anything it looks bad for Umar to be taking this fight.

    C’mon Len - probe deeper! For example, what does Coach see when he mentions ‘holes in Volk’s game’? Or when coach says Topuria technically superior - how and where? Just one example among many - feel like Jav has lots of insight, but this is just picking at the surface

    Coach Javier said a fighter shouldn’t talk trash about another’s family, regarding Ian Garry. While I agree with that, it was Garry who talked shit and made a false narrative about Neil Magny being a child beater before their fight. It was Garry who crossed the line for personal gains and branding. Since he did that, he’s opened himself to whatever line others say about him. If you can’t take it, then don’t dish it out.

    I'm an admirer of Coach Javier Mendez and will listen to his views whenever I see an episode released. In that spirit, here's some feedback: 1. This episode felt like it was poorly produced - the background looks a little drab, the fumbling when trying to pull up the UFC298 card could have been edited out, and the end was way too abrupt. 2. There needs to be some topic preparation before bringing it up - asking coach about The Hermanson Pyfer fight only to get a "no, I didn't watch it" and have nowhere to go with that topic after that was needless time wasted. If Coach has nothing to say on a topic, don't include it in the episode. 3. Interviewer prep needs to be better - you've got to know where UFC298 is happening before wasting more time asking if Coach is going to see it live in Vegas. Again, prep needs to be better. 4. When Coach gets his facts wrong, regardless of respect levels for him, it needs to be corrected immediately. Volkanovski didn't say he was drinking while training for the second Islam fight, he said he was drinking before he got the call to take the fight, and that was why taking it on short notice was even harder to pull off. He was not drinking while training for the 10-12 days he had. Again, background knowledge and prep could be better. Overall, in a crowded podcast landscape, these are quick and impactful fixes that will get Coach Javier's voice out with the highest level of polish so that even more people tune in. Again, I offer the feedback above only with the intention of helping this channel get better and represent Coach Javier better.

    when Volk talks about drinking more than he should have, there's two aspects to that. One is the actual alcohol and the harm that does. The other, and more important, is the mental aspect that even allowed him to be doing that in the first place....which indicates he wasn't dialed in like he should have been and usually is. And the boozing was just a sign of that.

  • @kapow1324

    How can everyone get this so wrong!? Probably the social media BS from self serving imposters like WEASLE and MMA GURU. The facts are Volk had some rare down time with recovery from surgery and a new born, which meant he was finally getting extended time with family and friends, which in Australian social circles nearly always means having a COUPLE of drinks. He was down on himself that he let himself get out of shape when he got the short notice call to fight Islam again...there was no guarantee that opportunity would ever come again so he had to take that fight.

  • @josepharmand6117

    @josepharmand6117

    @@kapow1324 Yup...that's about the state of it. Volk had to take the fight with Islam. And would again. It's just really bad luck it happened to fall in the least disciplined period of the long career of a normally highly disciplined athlete. The boozing was just a sign that Volk wasn't mentally dialed-in across the board, including training like he normally does. Being Volk he looked at all the positive aspects 'nothing to lose' 'dangerous'...but it always was a hard ask, and a low percentage, against his toughest opponent.

    Actually they are more similar fighters than anyone sees them. Great boxing, great ground game, in and out striking, never step back, game planing. In these skills they are elite. Volk already proven it, Ilia proves it step by step, cuz he’s young and he can’t have the same resume
