I've had this same grinder for over 4 years now and for $20 you can't complain. I do a fairly finer grind and use 3+ tablespoons in a dual filtered high quality steel pour-over cone. Bloom it 35 sec with proper temp off boil water(spring) and love it! FYI- I have never cleaned the grinder before(embarrassed) until today and have never had a problem. I vow to be more diligent. There are videos to show you how to disassemble and clean. For coffee lovers on a strict budget buy this and the dual filtered cone and spend your $$ on high quality beans from a local roaster. A French press is another great option. When I have the big bucks then I may invest in a quality burr grinder for the home. This cheapie grinder is mainly for my travel. I have gotten spoiled for good, fresh coffee. Nothing like it. There's a wealth of information out there on YT to not do this. It's so worth it and it takes 2min and 30 seconds (what can I say? i'm 70 and a slow lady) to grind a full hopper of beans and that will get me enough for two 12oz cups of coffee. It's easy and wakes me up while waiting for the electric kettle to boil. Enjoy!!

I just bought this after watching your video a week ago, and I gotta say I love it. People complains that manual grinder takes a long time, but I can't see how it should be long if you're only making coffee for yourself, not the entire coffee shop. Besides, the process is pretty enjoyable

I've had mlne for about a year now. After a while I noticed that I started having pain in the joints of the hand holding the grinder because I had to grip it so hard to keep it from turning as I moved the handle. The solution I came up with is an old one ... I wrapped a couple of 1/4'' rubber bands around the upper body where I grip it. Problem solved. Much easier to grind now.

I like this grinder. I honestly got into winter backpacking because of getting it. And it's only trivially heaver than one marketed for backpacking. I don't know how much I messed it up grinding some beans that had a little pebble mixed in.

If you measure your coffee by scoops, light roasted coffee will have more caffeine. Since the beans are denser than a darker roast. However if you weigh out your scoops, darker roasts will have more caffeine, because there is less mass.

Jaime San Miguel Thank you for that. Makes perfect sense. I'm a deep dark bitter coffee lover but, I'm really sensitive to caffeine, so drink a beautiful dark roast swiss water decaff from a small Canadian company that is just perfect, but got a delicious dark roast w caffeine for xmas. I've avoided trying it and I do use a scoop. So I'll certainly try it now. Maybe a bit less coffee and more H2O will help too. I use a scoop and a half for every 6 ounces. Jenn 💖 in Canada 🍁

@Stefanie Ella 3 level Tbs to a 12oz cup. I like mine stronger so my grind for a pour over is fairly fine (not powdery) and my 3rd Tbs is rounded. So dark and good! Get a dual walled SS cone filter (no more paper filters!). With this grinder it's the perfect match.

Better yet, get an electric conical burr grinder. I know they can get pricy, but it will last forever and you don't have to sit there cranking. You can also adjust the size of the grind. Keep up with coffee videos. I've been roasting coffee for a long time too. If you want some information on that let me know or google/youtube it. It's a fun hobby and you will have the best coffee in the neighborhood.

C'mon Jack now don't misinform! Roasting the coffee bean brings out nice chocolate notes and caramels those nice roasted flavors; HOWEVER, when a coffee is considered a "light roast" it isn't that it has less flavor, it means that it's going to contain more of the flavors from the bean, these tend to be sweet notes, fruity notes, and acidity, what determines how much "flavor" I guess you could say would be the process in which the beans themselves were processed, either "washed" or "naturally". So the lighter the roast the more flavor from the bean (fruit, sugar, acidity) the darker the roast the more roast flavor (smokey, caramel, chocolate, tobacco). For a truly amazing cup of coffee try a pour-over or a french press, cost has nothing to do with it!

These are mass produced and different private labels for different companies are used. 4 yrs ago mine was Hunt Bros but w/o the window. Now JavaPress and several others. Try calling manufacturer or whoever you purchased it from if you've followed instructions. They are very inexpensive so if you want to try it again go through a reputable dealer like Amazon so you can get a refund if this happens again. I think you just got a lemon and so sorry. It's been worth everyone penny for me that I bought one for my daughter in law too! Like I said in my previous post, I had this grinder for 4yrs. Making coffee every day without cleaning it! For it to hold up with that abuse and neglect is impressive. Good luck, sweetie.

I've had this grinder a few years. It takes a little practice at where you like the grind size. I've just discovered 1/4 turn makes real fine grounds but take about 1.5 minutes to grind it. That's almost 2 tablespoon. Just right for me. If you get 1.5 turns on the setting is course. Depending on your bean roast. If it's dark roast it will feel like your grinding AIR!! Or burnt marshmallows. I quit buying Vienna roast. Actually it was a botched roast of Colombian bean should of been light to medium roast. Nope. Ruined it. But medium bean can stop the grinder at 1.5 turns. Just power thru it.. 1/4 turn I like. Then use an aeropress and let the water drip thru without the plunger. That way you get a lot more flavor. Hey, drip coffee. And thank you for you video. Watch out them cheap coffee makers are great till it quits. I've had several of them. I ended with an aeropress. Fabulous, snap to clean.

Darkest roast for me. I usually always drink espresso from my Nespresso mini. I'll use the milk frother to make cappuccino and lattes, too. If you haven't had Nespresso espresso, try it. I haven't had any of their flavors I didn't like.

I have a nice burr grinder also. My ABSOLUTE FAVE coffee is dark; the darker the better. My late kitty, Winston, use to LOVE when I would make the coffee. Though BAD for cats, I would always give him about a teaspoon for him to lap up. He LOVED it and would bug the crap out of me for more, but always "NO NO NO, LITTLE BUDDY_ NO MORE 'TILL TOMORROW!" from me.

No. A teaspoon has no negative reactions for a LARGE cat. His body just finally wore out. If his fave vet told me it was bad for him, I would have stopped the almost daily routine.
