Best thing I ever did was skip his show and buy 10 shows on bandcamp instead.

I know this will sound way too over the top but this version of this song is actual perfection.

I’m glad Jason has climbed back out of the pit that nearly consumed him and I’m glad he remembers that the pit was all of his own making.

At my age, I understand. I am too old to travel alone anymore. He sings as though he has lived with, and knows my pain.

If you can say so much with so few words, songwriting is the only logical option. He's breathtakingly brilliant in his elaborate simplicity.

I don’t travel alone when Jason Isbell is singing.

Absolutely amazing songwriter and performer.

Damn near strangled by my appetite..... sing it brother, so true.

I love the way Amanda looks at Jason when she sings backup vocals with him.

I used to be bummed he left DBT too but now I see his talent is just too much to be held within a band. I never thought his solo stuff would be THIS good, this deep, soul searching, spine tingling artistry. He needed to be on is own to become who he is.

Screenplay songwriting. Timeless, marvellous lyrics.

The song is beautiful. Almost as beautiful as Amanda Shires. Both should win awards. Keep it coming.

Hard to travel alone when you lose your girl after 40 years. I talk to her still like she's there and then I turn on the radio or a ballgame and I'm ok for awhile. I hurt, I was lucky to love someone so much.

I recently discovered Isbell and absolutely love his sound and songwriting. This guys heart is so audible. Thanks for sharing this.

Jason nails it on this performance. Amanda is also great.

This is real music, stripped down to the basics. Great vocals, music and song writing.

Music just does not get much better than that!! Same for damn near everything that Jason Isbell does---I sure hope the new album set to drop in July is at least as good as Southeastern is.

This is my favorite version of this song.

This is a wonderful song with just Jason. Amanda Shires' violin and vocals make it 10x more wonderful. :) I wasn't very familiar with Amanda before I watched this, but I'm already madly in love with her! ;) Oh wait -- she's married to Jason! Lucky guy!

You might be disappointed, because that is a viola. A violin has a much higher tone.

Tiffany McAllister He’s just referring to the line in the song about the street girl in Ybor City. Isbell clearly referring back to his drug and alcohol days that he’s now gotten past.

please do more covers of Carl Perkins Cadillac. You are the best!

Stories in music .........

Sections of this song sound very similar to John Prine's "Hello In There". The chorus is different, but the timing and vocal phrasing are pretty close. Hey, if you're going to borrow from someone, it may as well be the best.

***** I wonder if you're talking about the Lexington show. They closed with Paradise. To see the three of them on stage together was amazing. "Unwed Fathers" and "In spite of Ourselves" was like seeing him play with Iris.
