I love that routine, it was one of the first juggling videos on my computer when I first started. After knowing (part of) the story behind it I liked it even more.. A classic

In a previous IJA festival, Jason did not get the gold medal when he competed. This was presumably because he had gone over the time limit (8:15) and some of his hard/finale tricks did not count. He's been bitter about it ever since. That's why everyone started cracking up when they saw the timer.

the pointing the finger at the audience parody just kills me. i still can't get over how awesome this routine is. it's just as hilarious and brilliant as when i saw it in 2002. i remember the entire audience literally dying with laughter. i have never in my entire life heard an audience laugh that much, not even at stand-up comics' shows, and i go to a lot of stand up. totally brilliant, and to think the great juggling is interpolated into this craziness...

  • @organboi

the greatest juggling routine of our time. it says so much. and people say this juggler lacks "soul"? all i see here is nothing but soul. the intellect it took to create this incredible parody must be colossal. the juggling is a pure celebration of the greatest of this art, and JG is giving us something new and meaningful here. this routine also shows the absurdity of combining seriously difficult moves with flippant cliche showmanship. they just don't blend. and jason is proving that here.

He's mocking people who juggle like circus clowns. He's not so much into the superfluous entertainment that goes into a juggling act. He's more about standing in one place and doing things that most people can't do. Jason doesn't need to move around a lot to impress people. This routine is his way of showing people that he can do the dance-around-the-stage stuff too. He just prefers not to because it isn't his style. I just wish he'd have more respect for people who like this kind of act.

@getkristan He wants people to recognize that juggling isn't just performing like they do in the circus, I don't think he has as much of a problem with circus performers as he has a problem with people thinking that is all there is to juggling and not understanding the technical difficulties that go with it. If more people realized how difficult technical juggling was and didn't think you had to eat apples to do it he probably wouldn't come off like that.

I would have to agree with you on some levels about what you just said there. There are some fairly popular three ball jugglers, one in particular Chris Bliss who does a three ball juggling routine to several songs cut into a pretty decent choreographed juggling routine. The only downside to it was that he was doing most of the same tricks over and over again. I've seen Jason's parody of Bliss's routine and all I have to say is this. Bliss may be a hack juggler but Jason is a jealous meathead.

I think some of you guys are missing the point of this routine...he is always going on about how he hates juggling being mixed with clowning and dissing other jugglers for doing simple stuff...and he has been accused of dissing it because he can't do it. It's an obvious parody by him of the guys who clown up their routines...I think basically he was giving a big "F U" to the competition?!

@Jason- Know your place. I saw your teacher, Benji at a local Lion's Club in the town he was from when he was just starting out. I was just a kid but never forgot his talent. He inspired me to try juggling and at 10 or younger I could juggle three pins without a coach. Never forget where you came from or how you got your start. It makes for a lonely life down the road.

listen I have made a living on cruise ship. I'm from a circus family should jugglers in circuses be bend too. Jason is great but a big head and not everybody thinks is the best like he does. kris Kremo is not an OLYMPIC JUGGLER but a great juggler none the less. Competition is fine but been an entertainer is more difficult

The whole routine is a parody on so-called ''jugglers'' whose act is more about showmanship and pandering to the audience than actual technical proficiency. You know, the guys who build a whole career around a 3-ball act and some lame gimmick (like a sequenced ''piano'') and end up getting cable specials for it. The humor here comes from Jason's portrayal of these happy-go-lucky charicatures and the over-the-top delivery that usually passes for talent on TV.

jason is a acerbic juggling god, who created the world Juggling Fed. to focus on technique. the IJA (int. Jugglers Ass.) focus on performance. So it was a spoof on them and how gay it all is (timed competition etc). He's the exact opposite of that performance. wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

cynta42, spare us the clichés about rocket science. you just need to chill out. people like you are never pleased. people criticize Garfield when he's serious, and now you knock him when he's hilariously brilliant. what the hell's wrong with you? if Jason can make fun of his own craft, doesn't that PROVE that he doesn't take juggling too seriously? he is capable of laughing at himself. learn from him. relax and chill. btw, juggling IS harder than rocket science, the kind JG demonstrates.

I found it, yeah - Gayaneh - Suite - Sabre Dance - thanks for the help guys, not! Incidentally, who cares whether juggling is mixed with clowning, isn't it about entertainment? I mean, then why put a performance together at all - you have to think about what the crowd wants as an entertainer - I mean, please, it's not rocket science or cancer research...it's JUGGLING.
