The march JT was talking about is Nejmegen. It's 4 days of marching in uniform with at least 10kg pack (22 pounds.). Participants walk 30, 40, or 50kms daily depending on age. There are about 45k participants from militaries around the world.

Yep. I did it with a team in 2001 when I was stationed at Sembach AB, Germany...it was a blast. Highly recommend it.

Love the content guys! I've been a big fan since day one of BRC and of course Mat Best and his ART15 when it first came to light. I respect what you guys done for our country I'm a HUGE PATRIOT actually joined the Marine Corps but broke my back 3 months before I was gonna be graduating HS then straight off to Basic so it took a long time for me to recover for not being able to serve our great country! So I just wanna say thanks again for all you guys have done and are continuing to do!!

I had an uncle that was in Korea and ww2, last time I saw him alive he told me a couple interesting stories from both ww2 and Korea. He killed a lot of people for sure. Anyways, he was a scout during ww2 and found one of the brothels up in the Alps, and then during Korea he drove truck and when going over a pass that closes at night he broke down, when it opened up in the morning he was found sitting on the front bumper of his truck smoking a cigarette with quite a few dead Chinese soldiers around his truck.

I've been doing the ECS since it came out and I absolutely love it 😍

Don't want to sound like I'm taking credit or something, but in the anglo-boer war(PC term South African war) the boer "kommando's" were also extremely effective against the British in unconventional warfare. There were some conventional battles but the emphasis was usually on disruption of supply lines etc. They don't get a lot of credit. British did get the idea of forming commando units from the boers.

Couldn't help thinking about the Shenandoah Valley campaign in 1862 especially and the crazy marches the CSA soldiers did with packs and all.

Applying rules to war is something I'm kind of torn over. On one hand, how vicious would people be without rules or ethics in war? I don't want to even think about the possibilities. On the other, why fight a war in the first place? Idk. I am curious about the shape of our country, and the world, had Japan never bombed Pearl. Would we be living in a 'Man In The High Castle' type world? We the U.S. be a neutral world power in conflicts following WW2? Would we even be a super power?...and I love the dog chillin' in the background.

The March JT was referring to is either Nijmegen March oder the Dodentocht March.

I agree with the Scout Sniper roll in a rural battlefield, however, in Iraq we had a number of 4 man teams get compromised/hit. We moved to 8 man teams because of security, especially when there was a high probability of being compromised. They had to be able to either exfill and fight, or hold off an enemy attack long enough for QRF to get there and cover extract. 8 man teams was more difficult to move into position without compromise, but also allowed for a more efficient period of observation. You could rotate the HOGs off of glass for rest, but still maintain good observation. I’m an 0311. We were tasked with bulking the STA PLTs numbers. There were quite a few occasions where us being at 8 Marines saved our bacon. If it was only a 2-4 man team, I feel that our STA teams KIAs would’ve been higher than what they were.

I'm already sorry to have to step in at this time ans so early on what I know is going to be an informative podcast, Evan, Logan and Tyr, if on your own will be walking back at least 100 miles searching for Jarred in order to save him!!! Or if together, the three of you will be fighting with each other over the last 25 miles, who is on each end of your man made stretcher carrying Jarred the rest of the way of of the mission you had planned to accomplish between you!!!!!!! :):):) I know you're all in shape, but what the hell, you gotta start off the trip with a laugh from the outside as you always are the ones to give us out here the laughs!!! Have a great tip and remember, you all get a participation trophy no matter how well you do!!!:):):)

As a 47 crew member, I'd want to to go back to WW2 and take our Army Aviation Task Force from OEF 2013. Apaches, Kiowas, Blackhawks and Chinooks pilots would have kicked ass and I'm sure there's many times that we could have made a difference helping getting supplies and men to the front lines, especially on D-Day, during Operation Market Garden and The Battle of the Bulge.

The term guerrilla comes from Spain meaning little war which was fought by the people of Spain and Portugal against France during the peninsular war in the early 19th century

The march you couldn't think of the name that takes place in the Netherlands is called Nijmegen and its 100 miles over 4 days and takes place usually in July every year

Andersonville GA was a civil war pow camp. The pow's were so malnourished that a group formed that preyed on the weakest to steal food and clothing. They became so hated that the whole camp turned on them and ripped them apart. Civil war pow camps were horrible.

Sometimes I forget just how intelligent JT is. His goofball attitude hides it so well 🤣

I would be in WW2 but only as a Army Ranger & in Korean war with my dad who was Navy.

Very interesting talk. With regard to long distance walks, during the first Gulf War the notorious Bravo Two Zero op. SAS patrol gets bumped into off a goat herder. Do they kill him or let him go? (Like Lone Survivor). They let him go and they're on the back foot. Chris Ryan gets separated and ends up tabbing over 200 miles to escape. Longest E and E in SAS history I think?

I'd go back for 1776, and Vietnam....I'd also go back for ww2. I'm pretty sure that I've died in all these, and been reincarnated as a civ. I don't know for sure. However as a 3 or 4 year old my parents said I hid under the dining room table and yelled "the germans are coming" multiple times. Maybe one day I'll make it to Valhalla!

I think I would like to fight In The iraq or Afghan wars cause if I picked ww1 the conditions were absolute shit trenches were made out of my comrades feet ,ww2 is very similar but instead there is chemical warfare, modern war I guess as far as conditions and survival rate is higher I pick the afghan war

I think that the revolutionary war would probably be the best.

About the incompetence of commanders, look at the number of incompetent commanders of all levels that were relieved during the civil war and ww2, two wars that were actually won. Lincoln had a hell of a job finding a commander who could win, and even he, Grant, made some huge mistakes. You never know the competence of an individual until he dose the job. And if you have superiors that don't care, or unsure about their backing from on high, they won't say anything.

How much different would wars go if we could go back and fight then with the technology and tactics of Today in the SOF community?

Although going back to fight wars like the revolutionary war with today's technology wouldn't really be fun in the sense that most battles would be over with a few air strikes..... WWI and WWII would be a greater challenge with the introduction of tanks and planes and trench warfare... Plus the caliber of soldiers of that area were tough as nails.... Vietnam would pose the toughest challenge, however those bunkers and tunnels would be no match for the MOAB... But they could use napalm back then and Carlos hathcock was in Vietnam....

So when Evan Hafer is talking about troops jumping into German occupied territory wearing American uniforms, there was actually a reason behind that. If you were captured wearing civilian clothes or German uniforms you would be tortured and interrogated and then killed for being a spy but if you were wearing an American uniform you were just considered an enemy soldier then sent to a prison camp probably still tortured or interrogated but if you had a good cover story you wouldn’t be executed on the spot. A lot of those guys would wear their American uniforms under some civilian clothes so if they got in a pinch you take off the disguise and your just another soldier they found.

I was in the US Navy while the Cod War was raging? The Mexican American War. Or the War of 1812. I just missed the Vietnam War. So in reality I’d choose to be around five years older, and serve alongside my older buddies who got drafted. Or Iraqi Freedom/ Ramadi with Taskforce Bruiser.

If i could fight in any war i think it would be as a driver on a gun truck in Vietnam

18:10 - Pretty sure this is because IF they were captured they could not be treated as spies and executed on the spot, which is exactly what happened to the the Operation Greif guys.

Both GM and GP were in war GM actually said she was older then she was to help in the war and my GP was pow. After he passed we found his written story of his service time. No war is fun! And you guys are vets! I understand the camaraderie and adrenaline dump, but losing people sucks worse than anything can counter. Surely the question is what do we see as the least messed up war we would participate in? For me it would be the RAF during the Battle of Britain, because of what the action meant, and you might get to fly a spitfire!

15:14 that sounds like the 4 days of nijmegen. and thats all roads just around the city of nijmegen. you arent even leaving the province(except on day 4 briefly) and yes we get soldiers from all over the west doing this event. its 50km a day for 4 days. if you complete it you get the medal of proven marching ability which is a dutch militairy medal.

I dare each of you to Hike the continental divide trail then come back and see how much you can walk each day.

I think a normal healthy person that knows how to swim would be able to make that crossing from mex to U.S nowadays. Alot of construction workers tell me there stories of crossing and say they get dropped of on average like 20 min walking from the border and then after crossing the river they walk to the nearest town that is probably a 3 or 4 hour walk. But what takes them so long is them having to hide from border patrol and the fact that its at night so its slow movement. So that 5 hour walk turns into a day or 2 sometimes. Also the mental aspect, of being paranoid and scared the whole time.

Imagine bringing modern arms to the Civil War or the War of Independence, just no nukes.

If JT is a 70 and Evan is an 80 this must be a logarithmic function. :)

I served as an infantrymen during the Cold War so I know the seasons. I understand The Germans were good fighters and not always nice when they captured trrops.

The reason for the Jedburg teams to wear uniforms is so that they would not be shot as spies and saboteurs. The British especially still believed in the concept of a “gentleman’s” war. That particular concept died horribly during WW II and no longer applies to war today. It probably never did apply except to the aristocracy that “fought” in the preceding wars. The British army during the American revolution had a great disdain for American sharpshooters that targeted British officers as they felt it was barbaric to shoot the aristocracy.
