Great tip on the oak branch hanging strait down! First time I've seen that, love the footage of the bucks taking it over too. I'm going to have to try that this year!

Man y'all know how to get us fired up for season!!!!!!! Never had good results with scrape limbs but I've never tried it hanging vertically either!! Headed to my KS lease next week and I'll have me and arm load of red oak limbs for scrapes!! Them deer won't know what a red oak is but maybe they will love them!! Sure gonna find out!! Haha

Haha, I love it. I've used various oaks, cedars, and even went a season where I only used black 1" rope that I bought from the hardware store. I got some cool pictures and videos with that too. I really just think it's the vertical aspect that makes it stand out. Good luck!

I've been using Pure Whitetail deer urine the past 2 seasons to create summertime scrapes starting in July. By far the best tactic to get my shooters conditioned to go my scrapes the whole season. PW is 100% natural CWD free deer urine, nothing better.

Do you do a mock scrape if there is already a few scrapes they are using?

You guys switch from muddy to lone wolf? Great tip on the hanging branch. Very easy and seems like it would be very affective.

Yes, Lone Wolf is a new partner of ours. Great company, even better product. We're excited about some of the projects we will be doing with them in the near future. And yes, it's been effective for me. It's fun trying new setups with these mock scrapes and seeing how the deer respond. Good luck. -Jared

Jarred Thanks for the tip. Im gonna try it. But Why do u prefer Red oak?

No problem Paul. Any type of oak will work fine but I've found the red oaks to hold on to the leaves a little longer.

For the licking branch what is the reasoning behind the red oak branch compared to anything else?

In my experience, those are some of the most popular scrape trees, but they also tend to hold their leaves longer, which is the main reason I use them for these mock scrapes.

Do you use any scent in the mock scrapes?

I typically don't use scent. The only one I do occasionally use is a pre-orbital gland lure to get mock scrapes going.

U ever worry about the herbicide on your health? I have friends that will spray 4 hrs later seed then mow. Unreal the results. Good luck.

Yes, we know too much exposure is not good, but I'll be the first to admit that I don't know enough about how much is too much and what steps to take to minimize it. I had someone reach out to me after this blog who works for a major Ag Chem company and offered some tips around that. These include adjusting the nozzle so it is not so fine of a mist, spraying at lower pressures, and playing the wind to avoid coming into contact with any areas previously sprayed. Good luck to you as well. -Jared

I know u guys are pretty good but most of the deer use them scrapes year round gotten plenty of bucks on camera in july august.

For sure, we've got some cool sequences of bucks working these year round as well. They just don't work them as often during other times of the year, and they don't always help us from a hunting strategy perspective until these bucks settle into their fall ranges. But it is cool to see them visiting scrapes during all times of the year.

Not to be critical but a tree that leans toward tree stand is NOT comfortable and causes unwanted movement ....
